    Work Experience

    Current District Leadership Design Lab (DL2), Director of Design(Responsible for the development of technological supports for ongoingresearch and tool development in support of the DL2s activities. This

    includes writing academic articles, submitting IRB and grant forms,

    working through the commercialization process, and developing the Labs

    research agenda, and coordinating with faculty and vendors. Lab clients

    Research and Design Projects

    2013 Dissertation: The Technologies of Reflection,University ofWashington

    (How might we design technology-based learning systems that efficiently

    and seamlessly scaffold the development of expertise in professionals

    practice? This study addresses this question through an analysis of the

    online commenting behaviors of a professional learning community and

    residency-based teacher education program at a large research university.

    In this study, a group of 20 novices and expert teachers used a novel

    Video-Based Online Commenting System to comment on videos of

    practice. The study draws on a multi-method examination of the video

    comments that illustrates the technologys capacity to support the

    metacognitive and reflective on the development of professional practice.

    In testing the ecological validity of the theory, this study uses statistical

    analysis and theoretical design prototyping to present further possibilities

    for the development of software that supports professionals as they grow in

    the practice.)

    2013 Gates Foundation Research Partnership: Personalized Learning,University of Washington

    (Developed an extensive review of the current thinking on personalizedlearning in the K-12 environment for the Bill and Melinda Gates

    Foundation. This document will influence grant and funding decisions.)

    2013 Educurious Arts Education,University of Washington(In collaboration with the Educurious, Inc., team, developed a blended

    course for a new, personalized course on arts education for middle school

    students across the United States.)

    2013 Teacher Leadership Project,Leadership for Educational Equity(Designed and developing an advanced blended learning course for LEE

    that embeds pedagogical strategies into an online platform. The projectprovided LEE with a more efficient model for developing future leaders.)

    $100,000 grant from the Wallace Foundation to support the development

    of a professional development survey and performance support tools for

    school district central offices.)

    2007 Office of International Programs, SDSU(Awarded to support research on mLearning in China. The first grant of

    its kind awarded to SDSU students for international research.)

    for the joint International Society for Performance Improvement/Tariq

    Khamisa Foundation project. The projects goal was to develop eLearning

    modules to support non-profit TKFs anti-gang program.)
