Wednesday, January 22: Update on Medical Marijuana with Robert Speth, Ph.D.Attitudes and laws toward medical marijuana are changing in the United States. New laws have passed in Florida. Dr. Speth will discuss the history of the drug, different types of marijuana and its pharmacological uses. Dr. Speth is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Nova Southeastern University.
Wednesday, January 29: Birth of the Blues with Chuck Bergeron, M.M. The Blues is a music genre and musical form that originated in the Deep South in the 19th Century by African-Americans from roots in African musical traditions, African-American work songs, and spirituals. Chuck will discuss how we hear the blues form in jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll.
Wednesday, February 5: Tortured History of US Immigration Policy with Peter Levine A country born of immigrants, the US has a long history of immigration policy that has been inconsistent and divisive. Join Peter for a lecture on the long road to the 21st century issues that we face today. Wednesday, February 12: Roe v. Wade with Elaine Cohen, J.D.In 1973, Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision by the United States Supreme Court on the issue of the constitutionality of laws that criminalized or restricted access to abortions. Join Elaine to discuss why forty-seven years later the case is still controversial.
Wednesday, February 19: One Hit Wonders: From the 1945-1965 with Shane Le Mar A One Hit Wonder is an artist or band that produces one significant hit single, which becomes the public recognition of said artist or band. Shane LeMar will take you on and insiders journey of the music industry best know One Hit Wonders, near misses and fizzles.
