Our November worship services will focus on a place where we all have visited and even sojourned there, Scare City. Each week we will focus on the sense that there is not enough. These fears drive greed, fear and exclusionary behavior. We begin to live in "Scare City" where it seems that death, starvation, feelings of being overwhelmed and swallowed up can lurk around every corner. The Good News is that this is an illusion. A spiritual journey into the truth of abundance offers us an alternative vision of where to live our lives. This series will have us "Moving out of Scare City" and traveling to the vast, open habitats of God's abounding grace. Come and learn to trust more fully and serve more joyously.

Advent worship will center main characters of the Christmas Story and the angels who visit them.

The angels that appear in the story of Jesus’ birth would have been very comfortable in our world of tweets and hashtags. Their messages were often short and to the point–their favorite line being #DoNotBeAfraid. As we look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Joseph and the Shepherds and their reactions to them, we will contemplate what messages we can offer that will counteract a culture of fear and bring #morehope, #morepeace, #morejoy, #morelove, and #morelife to the world.

I hope to see you at each of the services which will present God’s Love in some new and exciting ways.

We are also needing to rework the schedule for the interim study meetings. I will try to find times to meet that work for all of us. F

LOVING GOD,

We are a community of faith, called together by Jesus Christ to love God with all our heart, and all our soul, and all our minds, and all our strength. (Mark 12:30)

LOVING LIFE,

Southwest Florida is the best place we know to live out our faith with one another, learning together and loving each other.

LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS

Finally, we are exploring ways to share our faith and grow Christ’s Ministry to and through Westminster. Simply, invite a friend to worship with us or to come to our Bible Study of John’s Gospel.

I remain ready and able to visit and help you and your church in any way.

The Reverend Dr. John Wintringham

Mission:

Many thanks for your continued support of Our Daily Bread and Beth-El through your donations of non-perishable food items each month.

Your generous contributions to Three-Cents-A-Meal on the 5th Sunday of each 5-Sunday months is also greatly appreciated by these groups.

The next 3 Cents a meal collection is on Sunday, December 31. The suggested amount is $5.67 which represents 3 cents for each meal since the last collection which was on October 29, 2017.

Angel Tree …. Once again we will be partnering with the Salvation Army in their Angel Tree Program. Angels will be available for you to choose on the Sundays of November 5, 12, and 19 from the tree in the narthex.

You can help needy children in our community have a happy Christmas by: 1. choosing an Angel (or 2) from the tree 2. shopping for your Angel(s) using the suggestions on the Angel tag 3. returning your Angel’s gifts in the provided bag no later than Sunday, November 26.

The Salvation Army will be picking up the gifts beginning on November 28, 2017. If you have any questions, please see or call Joyce Johnson at 792-2393.

Notes from Beth-El: From Kathleen Dain, Executive Director at Beth-El: Thank you for your donations for 3-Cents-A-Meal (August collection), school supplies and backpacks. Through donations such as yours we are able to assist the local Hispanic farmworker community.

Westminster Presbyterian Church, we couldn’t do all that we do without your support!

Happy Birthday to all of you born in November!

Happy Birthday to all of you born in December!

November/December Footprints is due so I am checking up to see how many of our snowbirds are coming back to Church. There seems to be a lot of activities planned for the Christmas season. I heard flowers have been ordered (for Christmas) so we will have a form to fill out as to whom we wish to remember or honor.

When I ran over looking for treats in the office I saw the Salvation Army left a big red bag. Of course I peeked and saw all the tags for little boys and girls who are hoping to have a wonderful Christmas. Since I cannot go to the stores I am giving money for someone else to shop. Every child needs gifts for Christmas just like the Christ child received when he was born. The Angels will be out in the Narthex on the first Sunday in November, so I hope everyone takes at least one. I hope someone puts some candy in their gifts. You know how much this mouse loves candy.

Mission is also collecting toothpaste, toothbrushes and dental floss for the new Dental Clinic at Beth El. This is the first time for many to see a dentist. We still collect non-perishable food for Beth-El and Our

Daily Bread. Our Mission Committee sent $1000 to Misión Peniel. They lost the ceiling and many they serve lost their homes to the hurricane. Misión Peniel is supported only by Peace River Presbytery.

December 17th will be our special Christmas Concert during the regular church hour. I love listening to the wonderful voices in our choir. Woody finds very special music for this Advent season.

I hear that the Worship and Music committee is planning something special with Pastor John for this Advent season. It sounds like it’s about Angels and Candles. I think everyone will be happy.

HolidayTrip,SaturdayDecember9,2017

Congregational Fellowship Committee has made reservations at the Royal Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers for the lunch buffet and to see a production of A Christmas Story.

A Christmas Story takes place in the 1940’s in Indiana when a boy named Ralphie wants only one thing for Christmas: an official Red Ryder Air Rifle. The infamous leg lamp and outrageous pink bunny pajamas scenes from the movie make this a perfect holiday show for everyone.

We will be leaving the church by coach at 9:30 am on Saturday, December 9 and will return at approximately 5 pm. Cost for lunch, the play and bus is $75.00 per person.

Sign ups begin in the Fellowship Hall, Sunday, October 29 and will be held November 5, 12, and 19. If you have questions, please call John James 941-746-5818.

Be sure to get your reservations in early.
