The Outlook

Glenn’s Corner

Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of the busiest times families can have. Going to relatives homes to celebrate the holidays and sometimes trav-eling quite a distance to get there. These times reac-quaint us with family and friends we don’t get to spend much time with. These times are priceless and should be treasured every year. Throughout the holiday season we try to have meaningful times like the Children’s Program, Christ-mas Eve Service and Veteran’s Day when we honor our service men and women. We also like to have some great fellowship opportunities like the YAH Thanksgiving Banquet, Caroling and all the class par-ties that happen. The goal is not to complicate our holiday season with more activities but to allow for growth and fellowship during this time. Nov. 3rd is our Faith Promise Sunday. Every year we pledge as a congregation our giving to mis-sions. Our goal for Missions this year is $50,000. This money is given above and beyond our regular offering so that we support missions around the world. Our speaker this year is Mike Culler, the director of KOM right here in King. I ask that your family be in prayer about the amount you plan to pledge. As we look toward the new year I can’t help but be excited. We will have several opportunities to work within our community. We are working to set up our ministry here to work year round on projects in the community rather than once a year at the Mis-sion Blitz. These projects would be discussed at a monthly Bible Study for men. Also we would sched-ule some great activities with our fathers and their children throughout the year. Combine these activi-ties with Feed-the-Hungry and we can really impact our world. As we look to 2014, may we remember the words of Jesus, “Go and make disciples of all na-tions.” All our classes, sermons, activities and fel-lowship times are reaching for one goal. To make disciples of ourselves as we follow Christ. If Jesus is at the center of who we are then all else will fall in place. Make Jesus your center this holiday season as we travel this road for Christ. Glenn

Luke’s Letter to the Flock Fall is here and wow it already feels like winter! There have been some cold nights already and that kind of weather reminds me of the holidays! Those by the way are approaching fast and our Ministry will become busy busy! But we cannot forget to slow down and find things to be thankful for! God is working in our Student Ministry and I foresee him doing some amazing things in our youngsters over the next few months! So grab hold, pray continuously and let him do His work! I want to say a special thank you to everyone who helped out and had a part in the Beach Retreat, Fields of Faith, and the Teen Halloween Chicken Stew! These events were amazing and it is people like you who keep them go-ing and help to keep our students in check with their jour-neys and spiritual walks! We have some awesome events coming up and I really hope that you will do all you can to get your students involved in them! Thanksgiving and Christmas are busy times of the year but it is essential that your students are here and involved! Being surrounded by Christian brothers and sisters is what holds us together as one! Also Sunday school is very important for your Students! Please do all you can to have them here on Sunday morning @ 9:30 to dig into the word and learn how to be a Disciple of Christ! Some of the BIG events coming up are... CHILDREN’S Corner Thank you First Christian Church family for helping make our Chicken Stew and Trunk or Treat a real night of fun, fellowship and outreach. Your candy dona-tions and your willingness to set up your cars as a trunk or treat spot was really appreciated and made for a great evening for both the kids and adults alike. Every year we see more and more of your friends. I would also like to thank you all for taking the time to invite those that God has placed in your life that need Him whether they have a church home or most of all don’t have a relationship with Him at all. Through your personal relationships with others is how we as a church are going to be a beacon of light to this community. Using nonthreatening event’s like our chicken stew/trunk or treat or our hanging rock cookout is a perfect way to introduce people to our church family with the ultimate purpose of connecting them to Christ. Great job friends!!! Know God will bless your efforts in taking your responsibility to bring others to Christ serious. I Challenge you to ask God to help you seek out those in your life that need him and equip you with what you need to begin the process of bringing them to God. A huge thank you to our church family for your kindness, generosity and encouragement for pastor appreciation day, you are a blessing to our lives.
