JSSF2013 Newsletter

Page 2: Nov. 7 2013 Welcome to the Japan Super Science …Project Posters Please ensure you go to Rohm Plaza to display your poster for the exhibition today. All posters will be on display

To run every year’s JSSF, our students committee takes a great part in its organization. There are 8 different teams and about 100 members from the Super Science Course and Global Junior Classs. Each team is responsible for different activities.

【 】

【 】

The Media Team has two key jobs at every RSSF. The first is to produce inspiring videos for the opening and closing ceremonies. The second is to take pictures of the events. Every year, our opening videos have helped to build great anticipation for the JSSF and the closing videos have brought together all of the precious memories that participants have created during the fair. Please have a wonderful time!

【 】

The Zone Team has one of the main jobs at the JSSF. That is to make preparations for the Science Zones. Also we will be MCs and coordinators. In the Science Zones you will join one of seven different workshops, and work as a team with students from all over the world to make solar-powered boats, solve advanced math problems, program robots and other exciting tasks. We hope you leave with some unforgettable memories.

【 】

The Brushbot Team has one big event in JSSF. It is the Brushbot Olympics!! In it you will enter your brushbot in races and tug-of-war. Having prepared the Brushbot Olympics we are sure you will have a great time. If you have any questions or problems during the heats, please ask us and we will be very glad to help. Let’s enjoy the JSSF!

【 】

The Design Team has been in charge of making your name tags and the poster boards, decorating the stairs at FKC, designing the title of the newsletter you are reading right now and so on. We have prepared the direction boards displayed in front of the rooms. Also we’ve prepared this newsletter to give you all of the essential information you need and some useful columns to help you make the most of your limited time here. Please enjoy reading it every morning.

【 】

The World & Communication Team has two main jobs at the JSSF. These are to make the preparations for the Science Worlds and a communication game. The Science Worlds are events at which you can take part in special lectures. We will be acting as MCs and coordinators. Our second job is to organize the Communication Game which is run throughout the fair. We think that this game is fun so please enjoy it!

【 】

The Sightseeing Team has prepared some shopping itineraries and maps in Shijo or Kyoto Station. If you need your own guide on Day 4 during the free time, please ask your buddy to sign up for that. Also please ask us about Kiyomizu temple or Fushimi Inari shrine while you are touring. We’re looking forward to introducing Japanese culture to you.

【 】

The Science Team has prepared for the science project presentations which are the main events at the JSSF. We will help you to present your projects as smoothly as possible. We will be acting as MCs for the science project presentations, recording them, preparing the equipment necessary, and providing directions for the audiences at each venue. We are looking forward to hearing about your excellent and interesting projects!

【 】

The Project Poster Team has organized the layout of the project poster exhibition on Day 3 and Day 5. If you have any problems or need some equipment when explaining your poster, please tell us what you need. We hope you have a great time learning about various research projects and also make it a good chance to meet new friends.

Using Internet

During the science fair there will be internet access

available at BKC. JSSF participants can use computers

in rooms near the JSSF Office on the second and the

third floor of Co-Learning House II (Building 1) in their

free time. It is open from 8:00 till 22:00. The login and

password details can be found on the walls inside of the

computer rooms. There are also some areas where you

can find Wifi connections. For instructions, please come to

staff room.

Student Buddies

A Ritsumeikan student (buddy) has been assigned to each

school participating in the fair. They will be able to guide

you around the BKC campus and answer any questions that

you may have. The buddies will help you to enjoy the fair

and enable you to have a good time while you are here in

Japan. You will meet your buddies in the lobby of Epoch

Ritsumei 21 (Building 3) at 9.30am tomorrow. We hope

you have fun with your buddies!

Science Project Presentation Data

Cultural Performance Data TODAY

Tomorrow is the first official day of the science fair. In

the afternoon the first science project presentations will

be delivered (14:00-16:00pm) . This is always one of

the highlights of the science fair. In order for the sessions

to run smoothly the science fair organisers need any

data you are intending to use (e.g. powerpoint

presentation) to be submitted at the reception, 14:30,

19:30 (EPOCH Lobby) or in the morning in front of Prism

Hall. We will also collect CDs, data etc for cultural

presentations.

What’s BKC?

BKC stands for Biwako Kusatsu Campus, one of the three

campuses of Ritsumeikan University, located in Shiga

Prefecture.

It has departments for Science and Engineering,

Information Science & Engineering, Life Sciences,

Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sport and Health Science,

Economics, and Business Administration.

One of the buildings on the campus called Co-Learning

House II (Building 1) is for high school students, and our

Super Science Course students come here two or three

times a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays for the second year

students, and Tuesdays through Thursdays for the third

year students.

There are some advantages to learning at the university

campus. The students have their own labs for research and

experiments and free access to the university library. They

can also attend lectures when they become third graders.
