News Brief
In a shocking turn of events, we discovered that baby #3 is... another boy! Due: February 17th.
We’re thrilled (and thankful!) to report that our financial support has reached 100%!
After 2½ months at MAF headquarters, we’ve completed our final pre-departure training requirements!

Preparing to serve in
Kalimantan, Indonesia with
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of
unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus.” - Romans 15:5 (NIV)
as the ideal environment for honing the
skills required of MAF pilots including
low-level navigation, mountain flying,
and operating on short, sloped airstrips
tightly nestled into narrow, mountain
valleys. The final 2 weeks of training,
which Jodie and I both attended,
comprised non-technical orientation.
The focus of orientation was to
equip us to thrive overseas in
our faith, our family and team
relations, and cross-cultural ministry.
Now that we’re back in Spokane,
we’ve begun the process of making final
preparations for moving overseas. We
are so thankful for each one of you who
have partnered with us by your prayers,
support, and encouragement, making it
possible for us to serve with MAF.
H alfway through our recent 2½
months of training at MAF
headquarters in Nampa, ID, it occurred
to us that this was the most time we
had spent in one place this entire year!
Stepping into the methodical
training routine proved to be
a refreshing change of pace.
The first 8 weeks of training
focused on technical standardization,
both flight and maintenance. After a 9
month hiatus, it felt great to turn a
wrench and climb into the cockpit
again! The culmination was a 3-day
trip into Idaho’s River-of-No-Return
Wilderness, much of which is only
accessible by air or boat. This served In His service,
The Toews Family
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
Luke 10:2 (ESV)
The Boys
Kalimantan, Indonesia 100%
Washington, USA
...all three of them! Connor turns three on November 24th, and is very excited to have another baby brother on the way. Joel had his first birthday while we were at MAF and has recently spoken his first few words. They both loved living at MAF headquarters where many hours were spent spotting airplanes, finding sprinklers and running around with the other MAF kids. Frequent trips to the hangar were made to help Daddy “fix” the airplanes. The boys have become inseparable buddies, though in some ways they are clearly opposites. Joel is naturally a morning person while Connor will likely be relying heavily on his morning coffee later in life. Recent first words of the day: “Joel, don’t smile at me!”
