Using Your IRA to Contribute to Our Faith STO, your Parish or Catholic School If you are 70 1/2 or older , in most years you are required to take a minimum distribution from your IRA, whether you need the income or not. This year, you aren’t required to take a required minimum distri-bution, but may still take one for charitable giving purposes, if you wish. If you are in this situation, you can gift that IRA distribution to the Our Faith STO and receive a 65% Iowa tax credit in return. It’s a win-win for everyone. This IRA distri-bution must be given directly to the STO to avoid federal income taxes. You may also give to your parish or Catholic school through your IRA too! To learn more visit www.ourfaithsto.org or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque at 800 876-3546 ext 219.
