Church of St. Mary & St. Michael Newsletter Volume 31 No. 20 20th May 2018 Pentecost Sunday Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for the retention of the 8th Amendment on Friday 25th of May from 10AM to 9PM. THE REFERENDUM Two realities in the last 100 years have loomed large in the social history of the young Irish Nation, viz: THE MOTHER AND BABY HOMES in the early years and THE MOTHER AND CHILD SCHEME of the 1950’s. What is noticeable in both is that Mother and Baby are carefully linked in the offi- cial naming of the realities; accepted by all as perfectly natural and proper, given the unique emotional and physical relationship that exists between a child and his/ her mother. What is unique and disturbing in the present Referendum debate is the deliberate severing of that natural connection - the separation of mother and child. Such a situation surely goes against all maternal inclinations. It is noticeable that people IN FAVOUR of the REPEAL of the 8 th Amendment appear to EXCLUDE the unborn CHILD totally from their deliberations. It is accepted by both sides that HUMAN LIFE COMMENCES AT CONCEPTION. That human life of the Mother and the Child is sacred and must be protected and supported at all stages, in all and every circumstance. THE RETENTION OF THE 8 TH AMENDMENT ENSURES THIS. It preserves that natural relationship between mother and child, through which both can happily blossom together. Yours in Christ, Msgr. Joseph McGrath PP Rev. Roger O’Neill CC Rev. Tom Orr CC

the day of Pentecost by the outpouring of the

Holy Spirit. The gift of the Spirit ushers in a

new era in the dispensation of the mystery-the

age of the Church, during which Christ mani-

fests, makes present and communicates his

work of salvation through the liturgy of his

Church “until he comes”.

Pope Frances, Audience with Italian Movement for Life, April 11, 2017

It is necessary to reaffirm our solid op-position to any direct offense against life, especially when innocent and de-fenseless, and the unborn child in its mother’s womb is the quintessence of innocence. Let us remember the words of Vatican Council II. ‘Therefore from the moment of its conception life must be guarded with the greatest care while abor-tion and infanticide are unspeakable crimes.”

Anniversary/Birthday Remembrance Prayers intentions means the individual is remembered during the weekend masses starting 6.00pm Saturday evening onwards through to Sunday @ 12.00 noon. Their Remembrance will also be noted in the Parish Newsletter . Please note the mass is not specifically offered for the individual.

FERNS DIOCESE We Cannot Change Moral Truth

None of us should ever have the power to decide on the death of another. To concede to any per-son the right to intentionally take the life of an-other – in this case the life of a voiceless unborn child – is not only to redefine human life as less than sacred, it is also to make a hierarchy of hu-man life – where some lives are deemed to be of no value at all. In matters of life and death, none of us is a supreme judge who can decide the fate of another, least of all the vulnerable and the voiceless, the unborn child. I ask you today to remember that no referendum can change moral truth. The direct and intentional killing, of an unborn human being, would be just as immoral the day after it was ‘legalised’, as it had been, the day before.
