NOTICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT SUBMISSIONUPPER YORK SEWAGE SOLUTIONS
The Regional Municipality of York (York Region) has completed the Upper York Sewage Solutions Environmental Assessment (UYSS EA) to determine a
wastewater servicing solution for the Towns of Aurora, East Gwillimbury and Newmarket for accommodating provincially approved growth to 2031. As
required under section 6.2(1) of the Environmental Assessment Act and according to the Terms of Reference approved (as amended) by the Minister of the Environment on March 11, 2010, York Region has submitted the UYSS EA to the Ministry of the Environment for review and approval.
A Water Reclamation Centre with associated infrastructure has been identified as the preferred solution for wastewater servicing in East Gwillimbury and the northern portion of Newmarket. The preferred site for the proposed Water Reclamation Centre is located on 2nd Concession, one kilometre north of Queensville Sideroad in East Gwillimbury (see map). In concert with the proposed Water Reclamation Centre, a phosphorous off-setting program will be implemented. The proposed off-setting program consists of retrofitting seven existing stormwater management ponds in the Towns of Aurora, Newmarket, and East Gwillimbury, developing a new stormwater management pond in the Town of Georgina, and installing low impact development technologies within an existing stormwater catchment area in the Town of Newmarket (see map).Wastewater from Aurora and the remainder of Newmarket would be conveyed by a new forcemain to the existing York Durham Sewage System (YDSS) for treatment and discharge to Lake Ontario. The preferred alignment for the new wastewater forcemain has been identified adjacent to the existing YDSS forcemain (see map).As required under the Environmental Assessment Act, the UYSS EA Report will be available for public review and comment at the locations indicated below during regular business hours from July 25, 2014 to September 12, 2014. It is also available for download from the project website (www.uyssolutions.ca).
