CIVIC COMMITTEE Page 6 27 May 2014 Subject to further disbursements at this meeting of the Committee, a sum in the order of $29,202 (grants and carry over) remains unallocated; including the $500 overspend in Junior Grants. The Junior Development Grants Program is expected to receive further requests estimated to be $1,000 before the end of the financial year The following options are open to the Committee in terms of allocating unspent funds: • Transferring additional funds to the Junior Development Program to cover anticipated

shortfall in budget (estimated $1,000) • Charitable Donations (5x $2,000) as in past years ($10,000) • Carryover any unallocated funds at 30 June to the 2014/15 budget Conclusion The Committee to discuss options for further disbursements.

CIVIC COMMITTEE Page 7 27 May 2014 7.2 Community Group Equipment Grants Brief This report summarises the applications received for the Community Group Equipment Grants and makes recommendations based on the Administration's assessment of those applications against the Council's Equipment Grant Program Guidelines. RECOMMENDATION The Civic Committee recommends to Council that the distribution of the 2013 - 2014 Community Group Equipment Grants, as detailed in the report and attachments, be endorsed. Introduction Council has provided community groups and organisations with an opportunity to apply for funds to purchase minor equipment through the Community Group Equipment Grant. The aim of the grant program is to assist any group, or organisation, to purchase minor equipment. Discussion Eight applications for equipment grants were received, 6 have been recommended as meeting the eligibility criteria for a total allocation of $5,800 from the nominal $25,000 budgeted (Attachment 1). To be a successful grant recipient, applicants and their projects must demonstrate that they meet the eligibility selection criteria as outlined in the Grant Program guidelines (Attachment 2). Community Services will auspice grants for approved applications that do not have ABNs. Conclusion Should Council accept the recommended expenditure of $5,800 from the 2013 - 2014 Community Group Equipment Grant fund, this will leave $19,200 for other purposes or for carry over.

CIVIC COMMITTEE Page 11 27 May 2014 7.3 Ramp Events - Request for Sponsorship Brief Correspondence has been received from Ms Maureen Watts, Director RAMP Events, requesting that Council support the holding of a Nourish and Move Sustainable Living in the Suburbs workshop on Sunday 21 September 2014. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended to Council that the request for Sponsorship be declined. Introduction Ms Maureen Watts has written requesting that Council support RAMP Events to hold a Nourish and Move Sustainable Living in the Suburbs workshop on Sunday 21 September 2014. Ramp Events has requested $1,000 to assist with the staging of the event and has further requested a waiver of the fee for venue hire of the Thebarton Community Centre. Discussion RAMP Events is a commercial enterprise which is conducting a series of Nourish and Move Sustainable Living in the Suburbs workshops around Adelaide in 2014. These workshops in addition to providing information sessions to attendees also provide a venue for vendors of "healthy lifestyle" products and equipment. An examination of the event's proposed budget would indicate that Council's contribution would be used to cover the bulk of the costs listed for the event. This leaves RAMP Events with the full revenue derived from the proposed workshop (including ticket sales to participants and vendor fees). RAMP Events' application appears to underestimate the cost of the proposed fee waiver for Thebarton Community Centre. Council has previously determined that commercial fees for venue hire of Thebarton Community Centre will apply for all weekend bookings. Commercial bookings, should they require the total Centre for a full day on weekends, would amount to a fee of $2,000. For a combined Hall A and B hire, fees may be between $1200-$1500 depending on whether kitchen facilities are required (based on a 12 hour hiring time consisting of set up time - event - bump out time). Conclusion It is recommended that the sponsorship request be declined.

Your financial support was able to get me to Malta to tour in the under 17’s Combined Australian Netball Association Touring Team. It was such an unforgettable and amazing experience. Without your kind and generous support I would not have been able to learn the new things I did over there and have the privilege to represent Australia in the sport I am so passionate about. It was a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills as well as to compete against and make friends with other netball players who share my passion for the game. It was a great experience, and one I will never forget. Participating in training clinics and playing against teams from across the world has really helped me develop some of my skills and learn new ways and styles of play which I have been able to take back to my club (PHOS Camden), and use to improve my game. 7.5 JOHN NIKIAS - INDIVIDUAL REQUEST FOR SPONSORSHIP Brief Correspondence has been received from Mr John Nikias requesting financial support from Council to participate in the Lord's Taverners Indoor Cricket Team trip to Werribee (Victoria) to compete in the Lord's Taverners Shield. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended to Council that the request to sponsor Mr John Nikias be declined. Introduction Mr John Nikias has written (Attachment 1) requesting that Council support him financially to represent South Australia in the Lord's Taverners Shield (in Werribee Victoria), a national indoor cricket competition for cricketers who have an intellectual disability. Discussion This request does not meet the Guidelines of the Grant Programs in that Mr Nikias at 25 years of age is too old for the Junior Development Grant (Attachment 2) and "Sponsorship that supports a specific team or individual will not be considered, is a key guideline of the Sponsorship Program. However if Council feels that this request merits some measure of support, an ex gratia payment direct to the Lord's Taverners Australia (SA Branch), could be made with the proviso that the contribution be used to support any team members from West Torrens. Conclusion That the sponsorship request be declined
