June 2017 News Letter

Nothing for Mahala Campaign YFC recently ran the “Nothing For Mahala”

campaign with Seth Naicker from

Heartlines in and around East London

which had a great impact with Teachers

and with NGO’s in Schools, Churches,

Businesses, Colleges and Universities.

People and especially young people face

enormous challenges when it comes to

money.

Money is at the root of a number of our

problems as a society. When it comes to

money, habits and values are formed from

a young age. This presentation is based on

the movie that Heartlines released, “Nothing for Mahala”, to get people thinking and talking about values

when it comes to their finances. Seth brought a very balanced presentation which had the Gospel woven

into the brilliant presentation. Besides a deep challenge on what we do with our finances, people were

deeply challenged to keep Christ at the helm of their lives. This presentation is available through our office

should you be interested in challenging and getting

the conversation going in your place of influence.

Easter Camp 2017 The theme at this year’s Easter Camp was “Know

Him & make Him known”. I have been involved

with and running Easter Camps since 1975 and this

was the first year where our camp speaker was a

female. Jennifer Lieberum brought such an

amazing challenge to the young people in line with

the theme. From the very first meeting, God used

the simple easy to grasp challenges that she

prepared and impacted the lives of the kids

beyond any of our expectations.

Jennifer’s husband, Deon, on the first morning, moved by the Holy Spirit, suggested that kids who had

never had a “Daddy Hug” come to the front to have one of the dad’s hug them and pray for them. The

impact of this was absolutely phenomenal. When we listened to the testimonies on the last day of camp,

this event brought an incredible release into the lives of some desperately hurting young people.

On the Monday of the camp, we traditionally have a testimony time from 9am to 10:30am where young

people can share what God did for them at camp. We had to send word to the kitchen to delay brunch

because we could not stop the flow of testimonies which went on for an extra hour. This is where I get my

motivation to continue with Easter Camps. This year, the motivation was just so much sweeter than ever

before. Please rejoice with us for lives changed by the power of God. The planning for Easter camp 2018

starts in August so please pray for the leaders involved.

Ministry in the schools:

High School Ministry happens every week for youth from grades 9 to 12. Our goal is to see students know Christ and to make Him known. God’s plan is not for youth to live just ordinary lives. The youth of this generation have the potential to accomplish great things for God. God is raising them up to no longer be content with just ordinary lives, but to move and lead others into the awesome plans that God has for them.

We are so deeply grateful that the doors to sharing the gospel are still open to YFC and the church. Our team, Dumasani, Nolubabalo, Mark and Desrae are making a huge impact in the lives of teens in our cities.

Our privelege is to be invited to share at assemblies, Ladies coaching, Life skills, Self Leadership, Motivational talks, Exam prayers and Discipleship programs. Woven into our presentations is the gospel, beautifully presented to a desperate generation.

What a joy it is to see many young people committing their lives to Jesus! Please keep on praying – tomorrows leaders need to hear the good news today so that the Gospels values influence their lives and decisions tomorrow.

Pray for our workers who do what they do sometimes even without compensation. Should you wish to be a part of the team by supporting them, please contact Roy or use the Debit order below to sponsor a worker in the schools while we can! (I have also included our banking details below)

Beside our High school ministry, both Mark Raphael and Desrae Naude are also involved with the senior kids from a few primary schools paving the way for those that minister to the High school kids.

YFC Club Ministry YFC’s Club ministry to High School Kids combines

healthy relationships with creative programs to

help young people make good choices, establish a

solid foundation for life, and positively impact

their families. Like every ministry of YFC, our Club

ministry seeks to engage these young people

wherever they are found as lifelong followers of

Jesus Christ.

Owen Domoney, the YFC club director, recently

had a very serious back operation which left the

YFC club he runs without him for 6 weeks. I

attended but just to support and give lifts to kids

after club. All the time spent on discipling the kids

paid off as they took the lead and ran a very

successful program in Owen’s absence. Owen has

since recovered and is back doing what he loves

doing – “Influencing young people to follow the truth found in Jesus”.

Each week, 60 plus young people gather in Cambridge West for this YFC Club. What a joy it is to see many

of them committing their lives to Christ every week!

From Roy’s Desk:

YFC East London is part of Youth for Christ SA & YFC International, a Christian inter-denominational, non-profit youth movement operating in over 100 countries around the world.

At its core YFC is simply a movement of people unified by a common heart for Jesus and for young people.

Together, we are 100% committed to every young person in and around East London. We want to see them live to their full potential with lives transformed to flourish where they are planted. Many young people are affected by heartbreaking circumstances of drug and alcohol abuse, depression, self-harm, sexuality issues, violence and suicide – we want to see them move beyond these things. In our experience, it’s only when a young person encounters God and experiences the transforming love of Jesus that they discover their true purpose and identity. That’s when real whole-of-life transformation happens.

For close to 70 years, we have been building genuine, honest relationships with young people. We get them and the culture they live in – plus we genuinely like hanging out with them! In partnership with local churches we choose to actively go into their world, sharing honestly about our own lives and giving them an opportunity to find new life in Christ.

YFC is passionate about helping young people reach their full potential, in every area of their lives.

With almost 70 years of experience in East London in public & private high schools, YFC has developed a strong reputation for delivering excellent, professional programs and for making students feel valued. Schools and students are keen for us to keep coming back week after week.

Underlining all our work is the Christian faith and we believe it’s important for young people to have safe environments to explore deeper issues in life without judgement.

Our programs engage students while challenging them to think deeply about their lives and to make positive decisions for their future. These programs compliment the ongoing work of workers Dumasani, Nolubabalo and Mark in the schools. Desrae is involved in schools in PE and Owen in YFC clubs.

YFC always takes great care to be a responsible and safe presence that schools can trust and depend on time and again for positive role models and professional programs that make a difference.

We bring life to their story!

There are thousands of young people in East London who have never heard or encountered the joy of new life in Jesus.

Your gift helps give them opportunities to discover and explore the Gospel – as our workers authentically share their faith and equip others to do the same.

Thank you for partnering with us in this mission!

Yours in Jesus service,

Roy Centre Director
