    THE RECORDS - - Iowa is 2-0 aer opening the season with a31-14 home win over Illinois State and a 31-17 win at Iowa State.The Hawkeyes were 7-6 last season, earning a trip to the 2015TaxSlayer Bowl. Iowa was 4-4 in Big Ten play and 3-2 in noncon-ference games last season.

    Pisburgh (2-0) opened the season with a 45-37 home win overYoungstown State, before winning 24-7 at Akron last weekend.The Panthers were 6-7 last season, including an appearance inthe Lockheed Marn Armed Forces Bowl.

    THE SERIES - - The series is ed at 3-3 following Iowa’s 24-20victory at Pi last season. Iowa also defeated the Panthers in 1951(34-17) and 2011 (31-27), both in Iowa City. The Panthers won in1931 (20-0) in the rst-ever meeng in Iowa City. Pi also claimedhome wins in 1952 (26-14) and 2008 (21-20).

     COACHING RECORDS - - Kirk Ferentz is in his 20th year as acollege head coach and his 17th year as Iowa’s head coach. Hiscareer record is 129-106 and he is 117-85 at Iowa. He is the 12thBig Ten Conference coach to win 100 games.

    Pat Narduzzi is in his rst year as a college head coach, with arecord of 2-0. He most recently was the defensive coordinator atMichigan State for eight seasons (2007-14), and has also been anassistant coach at Rhode Island, Northern Illinois, Miami, Ohio,and Cincinna.

    Junior QB C.J. Beathard is 3-0 as Iowa’s starng quarterback, a record that includes a 2-0

    mark on the road and a 1-0 mark at home.

    The Hawkeyes are trying to improve to 3-0 for the rst me since 2009. Iowa has advanced

    to a bowl game every season it has started 3-0 (2001, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009). Iowa has

    opened the season with a 2-0 record in 11 of the past 15 seasons.

    Senior WR Tevaun Smith needs 16 yards to become the 37th player in program history to

    accumulate 1,000 yards receiving in a career.

    Junior WR Ma VandeBerg has scored a touchdown in three straight games and leads the

    Big Ten with 15 recepons.

    QB C.J. Beathard replaced injured QB Jake Rudock to start the second half against Pi last

    season. Beathard led Iowa to three straight scoring drives, nishing the game 7-of-8 for 98

    yards and rallying Iowa to a 24-20 win.

    Pi is one of two Power Five schools on Iowa’s nonconference schedule (Iowa State: W,

    31-17). Only four other Big Ten teams (Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, and Rutgers) have

    two Power Five schools on their nonconference schedule.

    Pi was vicm to Iowa’s largest comeback in school history when the teams last met in

    Kinnick Stadium in 2011. The Hawkeyes trailed 24-3 with 3:11 le in the third quarter, but

    rallied to score 28 points the last 16:16 to win 31-27.

    Iowa is one of only ve schools in the country yet to allow a rushing touchdown or 100

    rushing yards.

    Iowa is 6-4 all-me in night games in Kinnick Stadium.

    The Hawkeyes have played 58 consecuve games without a missed or blocked PAT, the

    longest streak of any school in the naon.

    BEATHARD EARNS WEEKLY HONORS

      Junior quarterback C.J. Beathard has been named co-Oensive Player of the Week

    by the Big Ten and one of eight “Stars of the Week” by the Manning Award. Beathard

    led Iowa to a 31-17 win at Iowa State on Sept. 15, compleng 15-of-25 aempts for

    215 yards and three touchdowns with no intercepons. He also rushed 10 mes for

    77 yards, including runs of 44 and 57 yards. His scoring strikes covered three, 14, and

    25 yards, with the 25-yard score giving Iowa the lead with 2:14 remaining in the fourth

    quarter.

      The Big Ten weekly honor is the rst for Beathard, who becomes the rst Hawkeyes

    to win the oensive honor since former WR Marvin McNu, Jr., following a win over

    Indiana in 2011.

      IOWA/PITT 

    • Iowa ranks second in the Big Ten with nine sacks. Six dierent Hawkeyes have

    at least one sack. Pi has allowed seven sacks through two games.

    • Saturday is Pi’s rst visit to Kinnick Stadium as a member of the ACC. Pi was

    playing at Kinnick Stadium on Sept. 17, 2011, the day the news broke of the

    Panthers moving from the Big East to the ACC.

    • Pi was vicm to Iowa’s largest comeback in school history when the teams

    last met in Kinnick Stadium in 2011. The Hawkeyes trailed 24-3 with 3:11 le

    in the third quarter, but rallied to score 28 points the last 16:16 to win 31-27.

    • Iowa and Pi both have one Heisman Trophy award winner in school history.

    Iowa halack Nile Kinnick won the award in 1939, and Pi running back Tony

    Dorse won the award in 1976.

    • Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz aended Upper St. Clair High School in Pisburgh (He

    was born in Royal Oak, Mich.). Ferentz served as a graduate assistant oensive

    line coach at Pisburgh during the 1980 season. That Pi team (coached by

    Jackie Sherrill) nished with an 11-1 record and a No. 2 naonal ranking.

    • Pi Coach Pat Narduzzi was Michigan State’s defensive coordinator from 2007-

    14. Iowa was 4-3 against Michigan State from 2007-14, averaging 21.9 pointsper game.

    THE SERIES

      Saturday’s game will be the seventh meeng between Iowa and Pisburgh. The

    series is ed, 3-3, with Iowa having won the last two meengs. The Hawkeyes scored

    the nal 28 points to win, 31-27, in Iowa City in 2011. It was the largest comeback in

    school history. Iowa won at Pi for the rst me in 2014. The Hawkeyes outscored the

    Panthers 17-3 aer half to erase a 17-10 halime decit. Iowa is 2-1 all-me against

    Pi in games played in Iowa City. Iowa won the last two meengs. Pi won the series

    opener, 20-0, in 1931.

    Syracuse (3-1), and one was against Georgia Tech (1-0) in the 2010 Orange Bowl. Iowa

    is winless in four games against Miami (Fla.), and three games against NC State.

      LAST MEETING

      For the second me in as many meengs, Iowa rallied past Pisburgh in the fourth

    quarter for victory. Trailing 20-17 at the start of the fourth quarter, Iowa engineered

    a 13-play, 52-yard touchdown drive that proved to be the game-winning score in a

    24-20 win.

    Each team scored a touchdown in the rst period. The Panthers scored rst on

    a Chris James 14-yard rush. On the next possession, Iowa QB Jake Rudock found TE

    Henry Krieger-Coble, on a fourth down play, in the end zone from 13 yards out to even

    the score.

      Pisburgh dominated the second quarter, scor-

    ing 10 points on a James Connor 1-yard run and a

    Chris Blewi 33-yard eld goal. The Hawkeyes had

    possession for 2:44, running only ve plays during

    the second period, and Pi went into halime

    with a 17-7 lead.

      QB C.J. Beathard replaced an injured Rudock

    at the start of the second half. Beathard led Iowa

    on three straight scoring drives beginning with

    a seven-play, season-long 94-yard drive that re-

    sulted in a RB Mark Weisman 10-yard scoring run to cut the decit to 17-14.

    Each team traded eld goals before the end of the third quarter, including Iowa PK

    Marshall Koehn connecng from a career-long distance of 52 yards. The 52-yard eld

    goal equals the eighth-longest eld goal in school history.

      Weisman tallied his second TD of the game with 6:56 remaining in the contest togive the Hawkeyes a 24-20 advantage.

      Iowa’s defense stopped Pisburgh on the Panthers’ nal two drives, including

    Anthony Gair collecng his rst career intercepon as me expired to preserve the

    victory.

      Weisman nished the contest with 88 yards rushing on 22 aempts. Rudock and

    Beathard combined to complete 12-of-18 passes for 178 yards and a TD. Beathard was

    7-of-8 for 98 yards, with 62 of the 98 yards coming on a pass to WR Damond Powell,

    which helped set up Iowa’s rst touchdown of the second half.

      Aer allowing 132 yards rushing the rst 30 minutes, the Hawkeye defense yielded

    only 53 the second half. SS John Lowdermilk led Iowa with a career and game-best 11

    tackles.

     ANF WALL OF HONOR

      University of Iowa All-American and Outland Trophy winner Robert Gallery will be

    honored at Saturday’s football game as this year’s inductee into the America Needs

    Farmers Wall of Honor. Gallery, who grew up on an 800-acre farm near Masonville,

    Iowa, will be introduced on the eld prior to kicko.

    The ANF Wall of Honor recognizes student-athletes in the sport of football at the

    UI who exemplify the tenacity, work ethic, and character of the Iowa farmer, qualies

    that have helped Iowa remain one of the leading agricultural states in the naon.

    The ANF Plaza is located in the northwest corner of the Kinnick Stadium concourse.

    Previous honorees include Casey Wiegmann (2012), Jared DeVries (2013), and Bruce

    Nelson (2014).

      THE POWER OF THREE   The Hawkeyes are trying to improve to 3-0 for the rst me since 2009, and the

    sixth me under Kirk Ferentz. Iowa nished 11-2 the last me it started the season

    3-0. The 2009 Hawkeyes won their rst nine games, nished 11-2 overall, and won

    the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl.

    Iowa has advanced to a bowl game every season it has started 3-0 (2001, 2003,

    2006, 2008, 2009).

      NO YARDS, NO TOUCHDOWNS FOR YOU 

    The Hawkeyes have allowed 98 yards rushing and zero touchdowns through two

    games. Iowa is one of only ve schools in the country to perform the feat (Boston

    College, Rutgers, Duke, and Kansas State). The Hawkeyes are allowing just 1.78 yard

    per carry (10th naonally and No. 1 in the Big Ten). Iowa also leads the Big Ten andranks eighth naonally in rushing defense (49 ypg).

      Iowa did not allow a rushing touchdown in the rst three games in 2014 before

    Pi recorded two rushing touchdowns in the fourth game of the season.

      FLIRTING WITH 100 

      Junior QB C.J. Beathard gained 111 yards but lost 34 yards rushing against Iowa

    State on Sept. 12. His net gain of 77 yards threatened his career-high of 82 set at the

    2015 TaxSlayer Bowl. The last Iowa quarterback to rush for 100 yards in a single game

    was Butch Caldwell, who ran for 109 yards on 12 aempts against Michigan State on

    Nov. 24, 1973 in Iowa City.

    FIRST TIME STARTERS  The Hawkeyes have used eight rst me starters. RB LeShun Daniels, Jr., LT Boone

    Myers, DT Nathan Bazata, DT Jaleel Johnson, LB Cole Fisher, LB Ben Niemann, and

    SS Miles Taylor all started the season opener. TE Jameer Outsey made his rst career

    start against Iowa State.

      Three true freshmen played in the 2015 season opener: OL James Daniels, WR

    Jerminic Smith, and WR Adrian Falconer. Daniels is the rst true freshman to play of -

    QB C.J. BEATHARD (SO., 6-2, 209)

      Career Games Played/Starts: 16/3

      Junior QB C.J. Beathard is 3-0 as Iowa’s starng quarterback,

    a record that includes a 2-0 mark on the road and a 1-0 mark at

    home. Beathard made his rst career start at Kinnick Stadium in

    the 2015 season opener. He was 15-of-24 for 211 yards passing

    and one touchdown. He rushed eight mes for 26 yards and two

    touchdowns.

    In three career starts, Beathard is 47-of-86 (54.7) for 671 yards

    passing, ve touchdowns, and one intercepon. He has also

    rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns in three career starts.

      In his last three games, dang back to the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl,

    Beathard has thrown six touchdowns and rushed for two more.

    He has 185 yards rushing on 26 carries, and 671 yards on 43-of-72

    Beathard earned Co-Big Ten Oensive Player of the Week hon-

      Junior RB LeShun Daniels rushed for 56 yards on eight carries before leaving the

    Iowa State game in the second quarter. Daniels was Iowa’s starng running back in

    4.5 tackles-for-loss. Niemann has started each of Iowa’s rst two

    games (his rst two career starts) and has had at least two TFL

    in each game. He is one of three Hawkeyes sharing the team

    lead with two sacks (DE Nate Meier and DE Drew O).

      Senior K Marshall Koehn became Iowa’s primary place kicker

    prior to the 2014 season. He led the Big Ten and ranked eighthnaonally in touchback percentage (63.2) last season, winning

    Iowa’s Reggie Roby Special Teams Award. He is 5-of-6 all-me

    on eld goals of 40-plus yards, including 1-for-1 on aempts 50

    yards and beyond.

      Kh 3-2-1:

    • Hit a career-long 52 yard eld goal at Pi in 2014, tying

    for the eighth longest eld goal in school history.

    • Has 89 career points. Need 11 points to become the 36th

    player in program history with 100 career points.

    ROOKIE TACKLES MAKING THE GRADE 

      Iowa starng tackles LT Boone Myers and RT Ike Boeger en-

    tered 2015 with one combined career start (Boeger started as

    a second ght end against Wisconsin in 2014). The sophomores

    replace a pair of NFL lineman -- 2014 Outland Trophy winner LT

    Brandon Scher (Washington Redskins) and RT Andrew Donnal

    (St. Louis Rams).

    Iowa rushed for 210 yards in its season opener and 260 yards

    in Week 2 against Iowa State. The oensive line has allowed

    Myers joined the program as a walk-on and was put on scholarship prior to the

    2014 season. He saw acon in four games last season. Boeger joined the team as a

    ght end but was moved to oensive line in 2013. He saw acon in seven games as

    a redshirt freshman in 2014.

    FIND THE NFL-ER

      Since 1999, Kirk Ferentz’s rst year as UI head coach, the Hawkeyes have had a

    future NFL player start on the oensive line in every season.

    In each of the last eight years, an eventual NFL rst-round dra pick started on

    the oensive line. Brandon Scher, selected by the Washington Redskins h overall

    in 2015, was Iowa’s le tackle from 2012-14. Riley Rei, selected 23rd overall by the

    Detroit Lions in 2012, started at le tackle from 2010-11. Bryan Bulaga, selected 23rd

    overall by the Green Bay Packers in 2010, started at le guard in 2007 before moving

    to le tackle in 2008-09.

    From 2005-06, Balmore Ravens All-Pro Marshal Yanda shared me at tackle and

    guard for the Hawkeyes. Mike Elgin, a seventh round selecon of New England, was

    Iowa’s starng center in 2004. Pete McMahon, draed by Oakland in 2005, was Iowa’s

    right guard in 2003. Oakland’s rst round pick in 2004, Robert Gallery, was Iowa’s le

    tackle from 2001-03. Eric Steinbach (Cincinna) started at guard for Iowa from 2000-

    02, and Bruce Nelson (Carolina) was a four-year starter from 1999-02. Both players

    were second round dra picks in 2003.

      PAULSENS ARE A FAMILIAR FACE 

      Freshmen Landan and Levi Paulsen are the sixth set of twins to play football at the

    University of Iowa. The oensive linemen from Woodbury High School in Northwest

    Iowa join the company of Leo and Lloyd Jensvold (1929-30), Harold and Herbert

    Shoener (1946-47), Kent and Kevin Ellis (1977-80), Aaron and Evan Kooiker (1992),

    and Shane and Shaun Prater (2008).

      The Paulsens are one of three sets of brothers on Iowa’s 2015 roster, joining DB

    Kevin Ward and OL Ryan Ward, and OL James Daniels and RB LeShun Daniels.

      TURN ON THE LIGHTS

      Iowa hosts Pi on Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT). It is the rst of two night games on Iowa’s

    2015 home schedule, marking the rst me in program history Iowa plays two night

    games at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes host Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7

    GLANCE AT THE SCHEDULE 

    • The Hawkeyes open Big Ten play at Wisconsin on Oct. 3. This marks the 13th

    HAWKEYES AT THE HEAD OF CLASS IN COACHING LANDSCAPE  

    The University of Iowa has produced more acve FBS head coaches than any other

    school. Bret Bielema (Arkansas), Bob Diaco (UCONN), Dan McCarney (North Texas), Bob

    Stoops (Oklahoma), and Mark Stoops (Kentucky) all earned undergraduate degreesfrom the University of Iowa. Bielema, Diaco, Bob Stoops, and Mark Stoops played

    for former UI head coach Hayden Fry. McCarney played on teams coached by Frank

    Lauterbur and Bob Commings. All ve head coaches served as assistants under Fry.

    Bielema played on the defensive line from 1989-92. He was team captain his senior

    season, played in the 1991 Rose Bowl, and served as an assistant coach on the Iowa

    sta from 1993-2001.

    Diaco played linebacker from 1992-95 and was a graduate assistant on the sta

    from 1996-97. The Hawkeyes advanced to the Alamo Bowl in 1996 and the Sun Bowl

    Bob Stoops was a defensive back from 1979-82. He was name

    team MVP in 1982, and played in the 1982 Rose Bowl and 1982 Peac

    Bowl. He served on the Iowa sta from 1983-87.

      Mark Stoops was a defensive back from 1987-89. He played in th

    1987 Holiday Bowl and 1988 Peach Bowl, and served as a graduat

    assistant coach from 1989-91.

    McCarney played on the oensive line from 1972-74. He wa

    named team captain his senior season, and eventually joined Fry

    sta in 1977. He was an assistant coach at Iowa from 1977-89.

      FERENTZ SECOND IN LONGEVITY 

      Kirk Ferentz enters his 17th season as Iowa’s head football coac

    and ranks second in longevity among FBS head coaches. Ferent

    is rst among Big Ten coaches and naonally ranks behind Virgin

    Tech’s Frank Beamer (28). Ferentz is ed for second with Bob Stoop

    of Oklahoma.

      FERENTZ AMONG TOP 10   Head coach Kirk Ferentz has 117 wins as a member of the Big Te

    Conference, the ninth most in conference history. He has 68 Big Te

    wins, also the ninth most in conference history. He is 1-of-8 coache

    to rank among the top 10 in both categories. The others includ

    • Iowa’s football record in the 2000 decade was 80-45 (.640), a record that ranks

    as the best decade in Iowa football history, based on total wins. Iowa posted

    a record of 77-40-4 (.652) during the 1980’s and the Hawkeyes were 62-53-2

    (.538) in the 1990’s.

    • Part of the Hawkeyes’ long term success is due to the stability in the program.

    Iowa has had just two head coaches since 1979. Hayden Fry took over prior

    to the 1979 season and coached through the 1998 season, posng a record of

    143-89-6. Current coach Kirk Ferentz replaced Fry, leading the program for the

    17th season. Ferentz also served as Iowa’s oensive line coach from 1981-89under Fry.

      Iowa has appeared in 28 bowl games with a record of 14-13-1

    (.518). The Hawkeyes have competed in the Rose (ve mes),

    Outback (four), Alamo (four), Holiday (three), Orange (two),

    Peach (two), Sun (two), Insight (two), Gator/TaxSlayer (two),

    and the Capital One, and Freedom bowls once.

    Iowa has played 12 bowl games under Kirk Ferentz (6-6).• Iowa has been bowl eligible 13 of the last 14 seasons under

    head coach Kirk Ferentz and his sta.

    • Iowa ranks third in Big Ten bowl appearances. Ohio State

    has received a conference-best 45 bowl bids, followed by

    Michigan (43), Iowa (28) and Wisconsin (26).

    • During the BCS bowl era (1998-2013), the Big Ten qualied

    27 teams for BCS bowls, more than any other conference.

    KIRK FERENTZ RADIO SHOW 

      Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is featured on “Hawk Talk with

    Kirk Ferentz” each week beginning Wednesday, Sept. 2. The

    90-minute radio call-in show is hosted by Gary Dolphin, the

    play-by-play voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes. The show airs each

    Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. from Carlos O’Kelly’s in Iowa

    City.

      IOWA LEADERSHIP GROUP 

      The University of Iowa football program has 16 players on its

    2015 Leadership Group, including 13 seniors, two juniors, and

    one sophomore. The purpose of the group is to assist in for-

    mulang policies, and being involved in team decision-making

    maers regarding the upcoming season. Players are selected

    by a team vote.

      The seniors are OL Ausn Blythe, RB Jordan Canzeri, DL

    Darian Cooper, FB Adam Cox, TE Jake Duzey, WR Jacob Hillyer,

    PK Marshall Koehn, DB Jordan Lomax, DE Nate Meier, DE Drew

    O, LB Travis Perry, FB Macon Plewa and WR Tevaun Smith. The

     junior class is represented by QB C.J. Beathard and RB LeShun

    Daniels, Jr., and LB Josey Jewell represents the sophomore class.

     ALL IN THE FAMILY 

      Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has two of his three sons involved in

    the Iowa program again in 2015. Brian, a former Hawkeye let-

    terman and captain (2003-05), is in his fourth season as Iowa’s

    oensive line coach. Steven is an oensive lineman who is in his

    fourth season as a redshirt junior. James Ferentz was a three-

    year starter on the Hawkeye oensive line and a team captain

    before graduang in May 2013. Ferentz is the only FBS coach

    ever to coach three sons at the same school.

      MORE THAN ONE 

      Eleven high schools have contributed more than one player

    to the current Iowa football roster. Dowling Catholic HS in West

    Des Moines, Iowa; Providence Catholic HS in Homer Glen, Il-linois; and Solon HS in Solon, Iowa, all graduated three current

    Hawkeyes. The schools with two current Hawkeyes include

    DeMatha Catholic HS (Washington, D.C.), Harding HS (Warren,

    Ohio), Regina HS (Iowa City, Iowa), Waukee HS (Waukee, Iowa),

    West Branch HS (West Branch, Iowa), West Lyon HS (Inwood,

    Iowa), Williamsburg HS (Williamsburg, Iowa), Woodbury Central

    HS (Moville, Iowa).

    THE HAWKEYES, SIZE WISE 

      Redshirt freshman WR Brandon Bishop and freshman WR Em-

    manuel Ogwo are the lightest Hawkeye players at 170 pounds.

    Junior DL Jaleel Johnson is the heaviest at 310 pounds. A total

    of seven Hawkeye players are listed at 300 pounds or more.

    The tallest player at 6-8 is redshirt freshman DE Ma Nelson.

    The shortest player, at 5-8, is sophomore WR Jonathan Parker.

      The average Hawkeye player is 6-2 and weighs 232 pounds.

    That is the one inch taller and two pounds heavier than the

    average Iowa player in 2013.

      Iowa has nine players on its 2015 roster whose father played
