Notes on Location Study:
Most if not all major medical facilities in the Lansing/ East Lansing Metro, Tri-
County area (Clinton, Eaton, Ingham) were privately financed with donations. The land
was donated to the hospitals as a way of expansion from older and smaller facilities; this
is the case with Sparrow Hospital, which is the major medical facility in the metro area.
Mostly facilities have been built in a predominately residential area with some
mixed in small business and not too much in the way of industry. More business has
sprouted up around the medical facilities but mostly in the medical related industry, with
is focusing mainly on doctors offices, clinics, or pharmaceutical medical supply (i.e.
pharmacy, medical equipment suppliers, and others), all of which have some kind of
relation to the facility in which they surround if not part of that facility.
The three medical facilities that server the greater Lansing are, Sparrow Hospital
(major trauma center for the mid-Michigan region), Ingham Regional Medical Center
(IRMC), and St Lawrence Hospital (which is owned by and is an affiliate of Sparrow).
Sparrow is located on the east side of town, between the state capitol and East Lansing,
on the eastern banks of the Grand River near M-43 Saginaw St, US-27 S Larch and Cedar
St, and I-496. IRMC is located in the Southside of town close to US-27. St Lawrence
serves the west side of town, and it is on M-43 Saginaw St.
The Smaller community facilities that comprise the other three medical centers in
the Lansing are in Eaton Rapids (Eaton), Charlotte (Eaton), and Clinton (Clinton). All
three of these hospitals are located on or near the outskirts the central parts of the towns
in which they are located and in which they serve.
