A dry but stormy month had us busy with debris cleanup. Of course, regardless of the time of year, Hoyt Arboretum is truly a four-season garden. During the winter, the best place to check out is the Winter Garden, newly remod- eled due to the hard work of Horticulturist Mark McKinney. New plants are numer- ous and aptly named: Cornus ‘Midwinter fire’, Camellia ‘Yule Tide’, Acer palmatum “Winter flame’ and Mahonia ‘Wintersun’. Notes from the Executive Director

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, 2014 was another very productive year at Hoyt Arboretum. We would like to share some of our accomplishments since many of you helped make them possible. This past year we:

Created the new Bamboo Forest thanks to the Allen

Family and Ned Jaquith Foundations

Expanded Hoyt Arboretum by 2.24 acres for a total

of 189 acres

Raised over $80,000 for the tree collection fund and

education programs at the Forage in the Forest fundraiser

Hosted 600 tree huggers at the Hug-a-Tree-at-Hoyt

event

Purchased a commercial potting bench that will

improve our ability to propagate a larger number of plants

Created Tree Buddies kid’s education and activity

program

Added a drainage system, plants and aesthetic

compliments to the Winter Garden

Improved the health of the Maple collection through

excavation, upgrading the drainage system and adding a rock retaining wall

Thank you to our donors and volunteers for all you have done to nurture Hoyt Arboretum in so many ways in 2014. We could not have made this progress without you.

Happy New Year!
