GROUNDED THEORY FORUM NOTES FROM THE FOURTH MEETING 4 TH DECEMBER 2013 Many thanks to the School of Health for hosting our meeting. Introductions …were conducted! Present: Win Hughes, Deb Pugh, Jacquie Ridge, Sarah Neill, Phil Bowen, Alasdair Gordon-Finlayson, Kathleen Mortimer, Melanie Slade Presentation: Deb Pugh and Jacquie Ridge did a really interesting presentation on using Charmazian GT in their professional doctorates. Although both in the area of health, their two studies are quite different, with Deb interviewing families with special needs children to explore their experiences of using different types of communication systems and Jacquie interviewing student nurses to investigate their perception of the Professional Identity of Adult Nursing. Here are the slides from their presentation. Areas of discussion that came from the presentation included: The idea of co-collaboration or co-construction which is an important part of the constructivist grounded theory promoted by Charmaz. The challenges of doing a literature review and then putting it one side so that it does not influence your data interpretation The role of writing memos and reflection during the process The difference in presenting the voice of the participant between Charmaz and Glazer.
