T his Sunday we celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord. We often speak of the “Gifts of the Magi”. The Three Kings offer gifts to the baby Jesus and the holy Family. In many cultures this day is the day for gift

giving. The true gift we receive though is the Christ child. The Magi symbolize that Jesus came for everyone in every time and place. This is a universal celebration and the Feast of the Epiphany reminds us of that. Our God is the god who is with us in our best moments and our worst. We give thanks to the God who is with! Today as we celebrate Epiphany, we invite you to stop at the St. Kieran coffee shop for some coffee and Latino desserts including the “Rosca del Dia de Reyes”. To ring in the New Year the coffee shop will be extended this morning and from 12-1:30 PM Latino Appetizers will be added to the mix. What a nice way to celebrate the Feast of the Three Kings. See you at the St. Kieran coffee shop. Thanks to all of the singers and musicians who have made our liturgies so meaningful this Christmas season. I love hearing the compliments on the great music we have at St. Kieran. Thanks to Joanne for all of her work, and thanks to all who participate in our music ministry.

On Wednesday of this week the St. Kieran Religious Education program will begin as well. After a wonderful Christmas break it is now time to buckle down for the second half of the school year. January is also a time to begin planning for the next school year. I invite parents who are interested in Catholic Schools to think about St. Agnes. There will be an open house for St. Agnes School on January 31st beginning at noon. Registration for next year will soon be upon us, so we encourage you to call and take a tour of the school if you are a new family to St. Agnes. St. Agnes is able to work with families to help make Catholic School affordable, and St. Kieran also helps by insuring a parishioner rate. It is never too soon to make those plans. Finally, thanks to everyone for your generous donations over the holiday for the parish. With your help the parish remains strong. In the next few months we will begin the Teach Who Christ is Campaign. This five year pledged campaign is once again for projects in the parish as well as for an Archdiocesan scholarship fund set up for children in Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese. The projects haven’t been set yet, but within the month more information should be coming. Again thank you for your generous support.

Notes from Fr. John
