  • Happy Almost Spring!

This month, we will be welcoming the

Crime Victims Center of Chester County to teach lessons on Internet safety in 3rd,

4th and 5th grades. They will be teaching lessons during the I-Design/Guidance

time from March 20-March 26. Parents are invited to hear them speak on March

12 @ the HSA meeting in the library.

Here are some helpful tips for dealing with stress and anger at home. Anger and

stress can come out at various times. As a parent, it is important to validate your

child’s feelings and let them know that it is okay to feel that way. If your child is

talking with you about how they feel, encourage them and praise them for how

they are handling themselves. When your child is calm, talk with them about

strategies they can use at home to help cool down and de-stress. Here are some

    ideas:

*Get moving – go for a walk, bike ride, or dribble a ball.

*Take a healthy time out – we all need some time to ourselves.

*Draw or write in a special notebook

    *Listen to music

    *Take deep breaths

    *Punch a pillow

    News from the Nurses

We made it to March and the weather is starting to break! But we

aren’t out of the woods yet in regard to flu season. This is just a re-

minder that if your child has a fever of 100.0° F, or is vomiting, they

need to stay home. They must be fever-free and vomit-free for 24 hours before re-

    turning.

Spring is also the time for wheeled sports. Kids are excited to get out there on

their bikes, skate boards, and scooters. Remember that it is PA law that children

under the age of 12 must wear a helmet. Here is the link to find out more about

the helmet law and where you can get discounted helmets.

  • Health and PE news for May/June…

Thank you all for your help and flexibility for our Jump Rope for Heart event. I know it is always a crazy day, but for a great cause. Our grand total this year was an

amazing $18,632.30 which was record-shattering for our building! West Brad-ford’s generosity never ceases to amaze me!

Also, it’s never too early to start thinking about our annual field day. This year our field day will be held on Friday, May 18 for all first through fifth grade students, and we need volunteers to help make this day a success. You can find more details and sign up through the following website.

    http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4daaab2aa31-west

Fourth and fifth grade students will also be beginning their human growth and de-velopment unit during the month of March. Remember, this is a unit that we strong-ly encourage our parents to stay involved in as students will have many questions.

    WB Home and School News:

Monday, March 12 at 6:30 in the library—The March meeting will feature Joe Myers from The Crime Victims’ Center of Chester County, Inc. He is the Community Out-

reach/Primary Prevention Supervisor. Here is some information about the program.

    INTERNET SAFETY AND CYBER-BULLYING

This is a program designed for parents and other adults to ensure the safety of children and their well-being in the cyber world. CVC will incorporate current statistics, best practices for child safety and discussions on current popular Internet applications. Instagram, Musically, Snapchat, and text messaging may be used by children to emotionally and physically harm their peers. Adult offenders are also using these applications, typ-ically used by teens and young adults, to pose as children. This program discusses what children and perpe-trators are doing on these sites and how individuals can be safe on the Internet.

This year we are excited to be partnering with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo! Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo. It’s a great opportunity for us to make a difference this year!

Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts into cash dona-tions and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, & voila Just shop, snap, earn!

    Get started today:

    1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

    2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts - shop anywhere, buy anything!

    3. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions!

There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo - the more supporters, the more we will raise for our school. Schools with just 40 supporters are earning an average of $1,000 every year. That’s free, easy money that we could be fundraising too. Check out shoparoo.com to learn more about this awesome app!
