Waste management the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials.

Relates to materials produced by human activity and is generally undertaken to reduce their effect on

    health, the environment or aesthetics

Role and deeds on environmental managementStrategies by Malaysian Government

    Municipal solid waste

Refuse collected from the general public and from residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial

    sources.

Residential waste includes the rejected solid material that originates from single-family, multifamily,

    and high-rise dwellings.

Bulky waste - includes heavy and large waste, such as appliances, furniture, mattresses, toys, consumer

    electronics and similar items.

    Physical processing

    - The waste are passed through a rotating, drumlike device that breaks them that reduces the solid

    waste to a certain particles.

-The size distribution will vary with the composition of the waste.

    - Waste must be separated according size and types.

    Chemical transformation

-Employs thermal decomposition at high temperature to convert a waste to a lower-volume, non-

    hazardous material or to energy.

-Is done by combustion a function of oxygen, time, temperature and turbulence.

    Biological transformation

    -Composting

    - to transform yard waste and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste.

    Incinerator

-An engineered apparatus capable of safely withstanding heat and designed to efficiently reducerecognized types of waste at as specified rates, and from which the residues contain little or no

    combustible material.

-Byproducts of incineration are gases, ash and heat energy.

-A major consideration in the selection or design of an incinerator is the fuel value of the material being

    burned.

    Mass burn

-The solid waste is processed minimally before being fed to the incinerator.

-Wastes are deposited in a pit or tipping floor, where it is visually checked by the crane operator, who

then removes objects that are unacceptable for incineration.

    - noncombustible items and even hazardous waste may enter the incinerator.

-Incinerators are also used to burn hazardous waste.

-In addition to the fluidized bed incinerator, liquid-injection and rotary kiln incinerators are often used.

-Rotary kiln incinerators can be used to burn solid wastes, slurries and liquids

    Landfills

    - dump, is a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and is the oldest form of waste treatment.

-may include internal waste disposal sites

    - temporary storage, consolidation and transfer, or processing of waste material (sorting, treatment, or

    recycling).

    - Selecting a landfill site, 4 major issues:

: data collection, local constraints, assessment of public reaction and area requirements.
