Reorganizing Public Folders

New Version, New Possibilites

New Features– Packages can now be placed inside another

folder.– Packages and folders can now hidden

New Possibilities– Simplify navigation for the users– Easily hide objects from users without affecting

the usage

Each project can be given a single folder in the root of public folders– All project reports and packages will be in their

project folder– A robust subfolder structure can be created within

this project folder

Design considerations

Hidden items still show up in searches Users still need traversetraverse rights on the

parent folders containing the packages A bug in the package selection navigation

screen in the studios prevents the next page buttons from working in anything but the root of public folders– This means if a subfolder has more than the

default number (15) of items the user will not be able to get to the next page

They can use the search to find the package They can navigate to the folder in Cognos connection before launching the studio You can limit the subfolder to show no more than 15 items in a single folder

How to move it

How to move items to the project folderHow to move items to the project folder– Click the checkbox next to the items you wish to

move– Click on the cutcut icon– Navigate to the folder you wish to place the items– Click on the pastepaste icon

properties called ‘Hide this entry’ The hidden option is restricted to report authors and

folder administrators
