Christmastime at Northwest is a very exciting time for the entire community. One of the most exciting events of this festive time of the year is the Christmas Dance Recital, this year called “Peace and Joy!” This spectacular showcase was held on December 13, 2016 in the Rice Auditorium and was directed and choreographed by Mrs. Kerri Friend. The performance began with Mary Wood ’17 reading a beautiful Advent prayer. The first dance was then performed by the entire company to “Let it Be” by The Beatles. This was followed by two student choreographed pieces. The first was an elegant and touching solo by Valeria Seymour ’17 to “Ave Maria.” Myia Chappell ’20 and Felicity Erickson ‘20 then showcased their talented performance to “Try” by Colbie Caillat. The four-person Introduction to Dance group then came together to dance to “Let it Snow,” followed by the Dance Repertory group who presented a spirited rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” Both dance groups came together for the bows, performed to “Seasons of Love” by Donny Osmond. Alessia Ruglio ’18 excitedly remarked, “My favorite dance was ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ because it was very upbeat and catchy. Also, the costumes were really sparkly and looked so good on stage!” The 2016 dance recital was a lovely and vibrant way to get into the Christmas spirit for all that attended!
