Where do you work?

Acelero Learning—We’re a non-profit organization providing Head Start & Early Head Start Services to more than 5,000 children and fami-

lies in 44 centers across 4 different states. .

What is the focus of your position?

My focus for our organization is to support the Head Start Centers in the states of New Jersey and Nevada., I’ll also be completing an extern-

ship this summer to support and open our new schools in Puerto Rico.

Which of your career accomplishments make you proudest ?

Working with the SHRM-A Team to advocate for our concerns with the potential FLSA Overtime regulations. I had chance to participate in a

Roundtable with the U.S Small Business Administration and Department of Labor as well as be interviewed by NPR. It was an awesome way

to represent Head Start, the Norhtshore SHRM chapter, National SHRM and the HR profession all at once and make a difference.

What is the best advise you have ever received?

“If things don't go right, go left.” It’s a quote from Lemony Snicket but It’s a constant reminder that the world

is a colorful place and nothing is truly black or white. If something doesn’t work or feel right anymore, try

something else.

Why did you decide to join NSHRM?

I’m not from the Northshore, and really didn’t know many people in the area when I first joined. Since joining,

I have had so many opportunities now to network, learn more, and meet so many other HR professionals.

Since joining the Board, I’ve made wonderful new friends and had a chance to help contribute to my profes-

sion while having fun!.

Strategic Planning Workshop for NSHRM Chapter members.

Facilitated by: Sherry Johnson SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CAE

Date: August 16, 2017 8:00am—4:30 Location: TBD

The objective of this workshop is to discuss how HR professionals can execute a strate-

gic plan to match their business goals; and, how to align their budget planning with their

strategic plan.

This workshop will focus on the business model strategic planning process that uses

information from the organization’s mission and goals (based on SWOT analysis) to

determine the necessary strategies, objectives, action items, and specific responsibilities

required to achieve the business goals, as well as a way to chart progress towards those goals.

The workshop participants will complete the worksheets included in the training to develop a mission statement and strategic plan,

and to review/revise their organization’s bylaws in accordance with the newly developed strategic goals.

We will discuss the importance of having a committee responsible for ensuring that the organization stays within the plan and

budget, or understands the value of making mid-course corrections.

Participants will also learn various group facilitation techniques that they can utilize in the workplace.

Approved for recertification credits: SHRM [6.75 PDCs] and HRCI [6.5 Business (Strategic)].
