Die bestuurder van die Sasol motorhawe in Onverwacht, Deon Kloppers, het Maandagoggend ‘n noue ontkoming gehad toe sewe swaar gewapende mans net voor 05h00 daar toegeslaan het.
Kloppers vertel dat hy in ‘n stoorkamer op een van die verdagtes afgekom het. “Ek het nie dadelik geweet wat aangaan nie en het vir ‘n oomblik gedink dat hy een van die petroljoggies is. Toe die man egter ‘n klapmus oor sy kop trek was my eerste reaksie om hom aan die skouers te gryp. Dit is toe dat ek die band om sy skouers sien waaraan ‘n AK47 hang.
Hy het vir my gesê: “I don’t make jokes,” en het die wapen teen my kop gedruk.
‘n Tweede persoon het ‘n 9mm pistol teen my rug gehou.”
Buite het nog vier verdagtes petroljoggies en kliënte aangehou en hulle van hul selfone beroof. Binne het kassiere en kliënte op die grond gelê terwyl drie mans Kloppers na die kluis geneem het.
“Hulle het die sleutels van die “drop

Buite het die sewe mans twee voertuie wat aan kliente behoort gekaap. ‘n Colt bakkie het in die rigting van Ellisras gery terwyl ‘n BMW in die rigting van Medupi gery het. Albei voertuie is later verlate langs die pad gevind.
Kloppers wat drie maande vantevore ‘n rugoperasie ondergaan het sê hoewel hy kneusplekke aan sy lyf het, is hy dankbaar dat niemand erenstig in die voorval beseer is nie.
Volgens Adjudant Offisier Frans Mokoena van die Lephalale polisie is niemand nog in hegtenis geneem nie en is die polisie tans besig met die ondersoek. CCTV beeldmateriaal wys hoe die mans by die motorhawe instap, maar geen voertuie kon uitgewys word nie.
Flink optrede toe kar brand
Kliënte, sekuriteitspersoneel en sentrumbestuur moes Saterdagoggend bontstaan toe ‘n motor by die Mokopane Mall aan die brand slaan.
Sentrumbestuurder, Jacques Swart, sê hy vermoed ‘n kortsluiting in die motor se elektriese stelsel het die brand begin. “Almal moes egter vinnig reageer om die brandende motor uit sy parkeerplek tussen die ander motors te kry en die vlamme te blus.”
Die sentrum se sekuriteitspersoneel was byna onmiddelik op die toneel met van die sentrum se brandblussers byderhand. Geen ander motors is beskadig nie en niemand is in die voorval beseer nie.
Swart het sy personeel en die publiek geloof vir hulle flink optrede.

The 15 800m2 first phase of the shopping centre opened fully let with a bouquet of 30 leading retailers. Already, plans are advanced for a second phase of Lephalale Mall, which will double the mall’s size to 32 000m2.

Hendrik always gets his manA man suspected of raping a woman in the early hours of Sunday morning was arrested on Monday after Molalatau Security’s Hendrik Monyeki followed his trail for seven hours in the rain.
The woman was reportedly attacked on the Thabazimbi road near the entrance of Molalatau Lodge. She described her attacker to Monyeki who then set off in search of the suspect. The woman was taken to Ellisras Hospital where a rape kit was taken.
According to Molalatau's Andries Bester, Monyeki stayed on the trail despite the rain which made it difficult to stay on track.
Eventually the trail led into a compound area where he found the suspect highly intoxicated. The suspect matched the description that was given to him including a scar on his head. His footprints also matched the ones found at the crime scene.
The suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital where he was positively identified by the victim as the rapist.
Monday’s arrest is the eighth arrest for Monyeki in November. He has been instrumental in the arrest of suspects involved in cases ranging from burglary and theft, theft of solar panels and rape.
“We are extremely proud of Hendrik in that he does not give up until he gets his suspect even if it means that he has to go on long after his shift has ended,” Bester told Northern News this week.
Murder suspects arrestedFour people were arrested this week in connection with the murder of an unidentified man who's body was found in an open field in the Ellisras area late Saturday afternoon.
According to Warrant Officer Frans Mokoena it is believed that the two women and two men were involved in an altercation with the victim. He was subsequently attacked with stones and left to die. The suspects will appear in the Lephalale Magistrate court on 3 December.

Smit, who accompanied the water affairs officials on behalf of the Nyl Action Group, explained that the problems with Mokopane’s sewage system has been dragging on for four years.
He said that the local municipality is to blame for many of the problems, but that some problems were created by contractors who installed services in the RDP developments.
“In these cases the municipality and officials from the former department of local government and housing are shifting blame and responsibility from one to the other,” he said.
Smit, however, told officials that the entire sewage mess boils down to insufficient and inefficient infrastructure.
At one of the areas where sewage regularly flows from a manhole down to the river, a local resident told officials that the municipality came to repair the leaking drain two weeks ago after the Northern

News reported on the matter. She said before the newspaper report the sewage was flowing unabatedly.
This week a new leak had sprung, not 800 metres from where the previous one had been repaired.
“To fix this problem is going to cost a lot of money,” Smit commented.
“A decision will have to be made to avail more money for the upgrading of the sewers, the current budget only allows for patch jobs that seldom last more than a few weeks, extra funds will have to be allocated through the IDP’s budget.”
Meanwhile council on Tuesday voted in favour of foregoing attempts to reclaim R80 million in wasteful and unauthorised expenditures by the municipality.

Foul smelling water seems to boil out of the sewer system which is clearly bursting at the seams.
On Wednesday representatives from the local and provincial department of water affairs accompanied Councillor Beyers Smit on a tour of the various sites along the Nyl/Mogalakwena river where sewage is leaking into the river system.
Raw sewage flowing down the road pose a seri-ous health risk to children playing in these streets.
Lephalale police, the traffic department and councilors of the Lephalale municipality joined forces last Thursday in a roadblock operation on Thabo Mbeki Drive. The aim of the exercise was to seek out undocumented foreigners and those residents who employ them illegally.
According to Captian Johan Grundlingh employers need to know that if they are caught they will be taken to court that same day. “Fines range from R1500 per undocumented person in your employment,” he warned.

The following portfolios were filled: Chairperson, Deputy Chairper-son, Secretary, Treasurer, Sports Officer, Educational Officer, Cultural Officer, and Disciplin-ary Officers as well as Media Officer. Each centre has 10 SRC members, resulting in total of 30 for the college SRC. The elections were free and fair as IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) was overseeing the proceedings. The newly elected 2013 SRC pledged to work hard in advancing academic excellence and students’ interests in general. In the end, they (SRC) said they are students first before they became leaders.

Lees: 2 Timoteus 3:12-15Ek is daarvan oortuig dat die kerk van Jesus Christus deur ’n krisistyd gaan.
Vanuit die geledere van die kerk word al hoe meer dinge gehoor wat nie ooreenstem met dit wat ons van kleins af geleer het nie. Daar word anders gepraat oor byvoorbeeld die skepping, die maagdelike geboorte en die opstanding. Van oral oor hoor mens dat die kerk moet bly hervorm. Daarmee stem ek saam, solank daar met “hervorming” bedoel word om al hoe meer kerk van God se Woord te word. Maar is dit wat almal met hierdie holruggeryde woord bedoel?
Om vas te hou aan die waarheid van God se Woord, raak natuurlik al hoe moeiliker. Wie dit nog wil doen, sal ervaar dat hy teenstand kry. Wie toegewy aan die Here wil lewe, sal vervolg word (12).
Dit moet jy baie goed besef. Terwyl ons nog op hierdie aarde lewe, sal vervolging die gelowige se konstante metgesel wees.
Daarby moet ons ook rekening hou met die feit dat die verkeerde soms beter lyk (13). Dit is mos so dat dit soms met die ongelowige beter gaan as met ons. En baie wat die gehoor van hulle luisteraars streel, het dit makliker as hulle wat teen die stroom in steeds die evangelie suiwer verkondig.
Daarom dat Paulus die jong Timoteus aangemoedig het met die woorde: “Maar jy, bly by wat jy geleer het en wat jy vas glo.” Ons het nodig om mekaar aan te moedig om by die ou paaie te bly. Ons het nodig om herinner te word aan leermeesters wat ons
van Jesus geleer het. Hoeveel van ons het nie die wonderlike voorreg gehad om van kleins af op die knie van ’n dierbare moeder of grootouer, die evangelie vir die eerste keer te hoor nie?
Aan God die dank vir grootmense wat kinders van die Here van die Bybel geleer het! Wat ons geleer is, is van onskatbare waarde. Dit het ons die weg van saligheid duidelik aangewys. En dit wys ons vandag
steeds hoe om as verlostes tot eer van God te lewe (15). Daardie kennis weerhou ons van afdraaipaaie, dit laat elke noot van dwaalleer onmiddellik vals in ons ore klink.
As jy van die Here van die Bybel geleer is, hou aan daardie kennis vas. Hou aan om dit vas te glo, selfs al ervaar jy teenstand. Teenstand beteken nie altyd dat dit wat jy glo verkeerd is nie, dit kan die bewys wees dat jy die waarheid beet het! Moedig die gelowiges
om jou aan om ook te bly by die Woord. Bid vir hulle en saam met hulle. Hou vas aan die belydenis dat Jesus die Christus, die Seun van die lewende God is.

Geinspireer deur die Bosveld se natuurskoon, het Sarie verskeie projekte voltooi tydens haar kuier, waarvan een ‘n uitbeelding is van een van ons land se beroemste bome – die Buffelsdrift kremetart.
Die Buffelsdrift kremetart is die wêreld se grootste enkel-stam kremetartboom. Geleë op ‘n beesplaas naby Swartwater, weggesteek vir die massas toeriste, floreer hierdie boom in sy statige afsondering.

The Medupi Power Station commenced its first 24-hours performance testing that ran at maximum capacity for the delivery of coal to Medupi Power Station from the Grootegeluk mine on Tuesday.
The Grootegeluk mine, as the sole source of coal for Medupi, first delivered coal to a 10 000 ton silo; from where the coal was then moved via the overland coal conveyor system to the Medupi coal stockyard. This conveyor is the sole conveyor supply line to Medupi and is critical for sustained coal delivery to the power station.
Tuesday’s performance test delivered approximately 120 000 tons of coal over a period of 30 hours, 24 hours of which it ran coal at maximum load.
On completion, Medupi Power Station will be the fourth largest coal plant and the largest dry cooled power station in the world. The completion of this power plant will go a long way in meeting increasing electricity demand and ensuring continued supply of electricity to the nation.
New life was booming all around at the National Zoological Garden’s Mokopane Biodiversity Conservation Centre with the arrival of Giraffe and Tsessebe babies amongst others.
The male Giraffe was first seen when it was only about 2 days old, the most recent addition to the herd of 10, now 11 individuals, 6 males and 5 females.
The newborn Tsessebe was a week old when first spotted earlier this month. Mom was very protective and she kept the Paparazzi away. The Calf, although still unstable on its feet could easily keep up with mom. Tsessebe can reach speeds of between 60 & 70km/h. Tsessebe has a global conservation status of “Least Concerned” but numbers are declining, due to the loss of suitable habitat, open

Tsessebe are part of the Damaliscus spp. inclusive of the Bontebuck and Blesbuck which had historically different geographical distributions and are closely related to the Hartebeest. As the game farming industry has developed, man has relocated these four species into the same areas which has and does result in hybrids between these four species, especially when the sex ratios are not correct. Medupi’s first 24-hours coal run a success
The overland conveyor feeds coal via a transfer house onto the coal stacker conveyor which is 1 km long and this conveyor feeds the coal stacker itself which is de-signed to stack coal onto seasonal or live stockpiles.
The overland conveyor system consists of two conveyors, one con-veyor 4,3 km long and the other 1,1 km long - giving a total length of 5,4 km. The conveyor belt is 2.1 metres wide and is capable of carrying 4 000 tons per hour and runs at a speed of 2.86 metres per second.

43 000 Zimbos deported last yearAbout 43 000 Zimbabweans were deported from SA to Zimbabwe through the Beit Bridge Border Post over the last 12 months as the crackdown on illegal immigrants staying in the country continues.
The local police spokesperson, Chief Supt Lawrence Chinhengo, said that between October last year and this year, they handled 42 940 deportees. SA resumed the deportations of Zimbabwean illegal immigrants last October, after having initially suspended the exercise in April 2009. This was after the country had introduced a moratorium on the deportation of Zimbabweans, granting them a special dispensation for one year, so that they could regularize their stay in that country. “On average, our statistics indicate that we receive between 200 and 300 deportees daily and most of them would have been brought in from Lindela in Johannesburg,” he said.
The largest number of deportations on a single day was recorded on 5 December last year when 672 Zimbabweans were rounded up in Limpopo and Gauteng. Chinhengo indicated that several border jumpers were taking advantage of the drop in water levels in the Limpopo River to cross the border illegally through undesignated entry points. - LiN News/Limpopo Mirror
LEPHALALE - In a bid to enhance the skills of their own security personnel, Molalatau Security became the first security company in Limpopo to facilitate a training programme sponsored by SASSETA (Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority).
Twenty security guards underwent extensive training which was provided by Persas Protection over a period of seven months.
The outcome was celebrated on Friday when students received their certificates at a ceremony held at the Molalatau Lodge.
In the spirit of job creation Molalaltau Security also announced a self funded programme where learners will be provided with theoretical training by Persas Protection as well as the opportunity to gain workplace experience through Molalatau Security. These learners are unemployed youth nominated
by their community leaders and recruited from the outlying areas of Lephalale in order to improve their skills and assist in the upliftment of the community.

Lephalale Municipality, (“the Municipality”) in terms of the provisions and in accor-dance with the stipulations of section 21A of the Local Government: Municipal Sys-tems Act, No. 32 of 2000, hereby makes known of its intention to implement the Spaza/Tuck shop policy whereby such policy will be used to regulate Spaza shops in the surrounding Marapong, Thabo Mbeki and at a later stage may be extended to the villages within Lephalale.

Not everybody has the luxury of being able to fish for bass from a boat but being land-locked does not mean that you will not be able to catch bass.
Bank anglers do not have the benefit of fancy fishfinders to help them find fish so mostly have to rely on their own fishing knowledge, eyes and observation skills to help them locate prime bass spots.
You need to find areas along the bank where there is something different close-by that would be attractive to bass. For example, a bank with abundant cover and structure, such as fallen timber, weeds, riprap or a small river mouth close-by, will very likely be more productive than a large, barren, shallow flat devoid of any cover or structure.
If you are fishing a pond, a small river or any other small dam keep your eyes open and observe. What does the bank look like? Do you see rocky areas along the bank; chances are good that those same rocks will go some way into the water. Is the surrounding terrain hilly or filled with small koppies; chances are there could be a hump or two in the dam. Look at weed growth in the water; if you see a patch of weeds growing in deeper water it means that that spot is shallow enough for weeds to grow. Humps are prime bass-holding spots.
Wading is an approach more commonly used by fly-fishermen but can very easily be adopted for bass fishing. Wading can be used to successfully fish for bass during spring, summer and autumn and it is possible, under the right conditions, for an experienced wader to out-fish boat and shoreline anglers. One of the reasons that wading is so productive is the fact that your mobility is limited so you invariably end up fishing the area more thoroughly. It is a serene, quiet way to fish for shallow water bass but can also be enjoyed by the whole family, including mum and kids. Just a note of caution: make sure to find out whether the body of water you plan on fishing has any resident crocodile, hippo, bilharzia, or is contaminated by hazardous pollutants, such as raw sewage. Waders may protect you from bilharzia and polluted water but certainly not from a crocodile attack!
Bank fishing is a lot like hunting and should involve a quiet, stealthy approach so as not to spook bass that might be feeding or sunning in the shallows.
Here are a couple of tips to help you catch bass from the bank:
Wear neutral coloured clothing that will blend in with the surrounding environment. You can even wear the same kind of camouflaged clothing that you might wear when going on a hunting trip. Avoid bright and/or white colours!
The shoreline is the number one bass holding area so, where possible, try to present your first cast before you have reached the edge of the water.
Try to stand next to a tree or bush (or any other large object) when casting because this helps to disguise your shape.
To avoid spooking the bass always start with your quietest lures first (worms/plastics) and then progress to the noisier lures (topwaters/spinnerbait).
