Senior Goaltender; Thunder Bay, Ont.Hutton stopped 55-of-57 shots (.964 save%) on the weekend, including a 32-save shutout of Holy Cross. He broke the school record with nine career shutouts and was named to the Dartmouth All-Tournament Team.

ATHLETIC REPUBLICCO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wakefield, Mass. - Maine, Northeastern and Vermont all won their respective holiday tournaments last week, while Boston University started on the new year on a high note with a 7-3 victory against Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon at Agganis Arena in Boston. Athletic Republic Co-Player of the Week Colby Cohen (Villanova, Pa.) totaled a career-high four points and two goals in the Terriers’ victory on Saturday. Junior Zach Cohen (Schaumburg, Ill.) also had a three-point (2g,1a) night for BU. The Black Bears opened the week with a 6-6 tie vs. Princeton and then a 3-2 victory over No. 3 ranked Colorado College in the Florida College Classic Championship Game. Sophomore forward Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden), who was named to the FCC All-Tournament Team, tallied five points (1g,4a) in the two games at Germain Arena. Northeastern opened the Dartmouth Tournament with a convincing 7-0 win vs. host Dart-mouth College on Saturday with freshman goalie Chris Rawlings (North Delta, B.C.) notching 60 saves on the weekend, including 32 in his second career shutout vs. the Big Green. NU defeated UMass-Lowell in the championship game by a 2-1 score with a 28-save effort for Rawlings. The River Hawks Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) set the school’s career shutout record with on Saturday night vs. Holy Cross in the 3-0 victory, surpassing former UML goalie Cam McCormick. Hutton stopped 55-of-57 shots on the weekend for a .964 save percentage. He was named to the Dartmouth All-Tournament Team for his efforts on the weekend. Vermont won the Catamount Cup Championship with a pair of victories over Alabama-Huntsville (4-3) and No. 14 Minnesota-Duluth (5-2) on Saturday and Sunday. Junior forward Justin Milo (Edina, Minn.) registered a four-point (2g,2a) for the Catamounts, en route to Athletic Republic Co-Player of the Week honors. Senior forward Ben Smith (Avon, Conn.) became the second active Hockey East student-athlete to register 100 career points on Friday night vs. St. Lawrence at the Denver Cup. The Eagles were also edged by No. 2 Denver (4-3) in the final day of play on Saturday at Magness Arena.

MAINE: The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team won the 2009 Florida College Classic, defeating #3 Colorado College 3-2 in the title game…Maine’s Gustav Nyquist (Malmo, Sweden) and Tanner House (Cochrane, Alb.) were each named to the Florida College Classic All-Tournament Team…Maine goalie Scott Darling (Lemont, Ill.) was named the Shawn Walsh Most Valuable Player…Maine is unbeaten in eight straight games with a mark of 6-0-2 over that span…It is the longest unbeaten streak for Maine since starting the 2006-07 season with a record of 8-0-1…Maine recorded an undefeated December, posting a record of 4-0-1 in the month…It is the first time that Maine has been undefeated in December since the 2006-07 season when Maine also posted a record of 4-0-1…Maine’s win over #3 Colorado College was the fourth win for the Black Bears over a team ranked in the top 10 this season…Maine also defeated Boston University, Vermont and UMass Lowell when they were ranked in the top-10…Sophomore forward Gustav Nqquist (Malmo, Sweden) has extended his scoring streak to a season-best eight games…Maine has scored 10 power play goals in its last 20 power play opportunities.
MASSACHUSETTS: Jon Quick became the fourth UMass player to ever be selected to the Winter Olympics (Thomas Pock, Austria, 2002; Justin McCarthy, USA, 1924; John Lyons, USA, 1924)…A win on Saturday at New Hampshire would give UMass its first Hockey East series win of the season…The win over Union gave UMass its most wins in the first calendar half of a season (11)…UMass win over Union was its first when trailing going into the third period (1-7)…The seven goals allowed at Boston University were the most this season…UMass has struggled over the last seven games going just 2-5 with 2.7 goals per game and a 6-for-30 (20%) power play conversion while opponents are averaging 4 goals per game and have a 9-for-27 (33.3%) power play conversion.
UMASS-LOWELL: The River Hawks were runners-up in the Ledyard Bank Classic hosted by Dartmouth College this weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision in the finals to Northeastern…In the tournament’s opening round, UMass Lowell defeated Holy Cross, 3-0…Senior goaltender Carter Hutton earned his ninth career shutout, breaking the program record previously held by Cam McCormick (1999-02). Hutton stopped all 32 shots he faced and blanked the Crusaders on five power play chances…Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alb.) opened the scoring with the game-winning power play goal near the midpoint of the first period…Hutton stopped 23-of-25 shots and had his scoreless streak of nearly 130 minutes snapped…For the weekend, Falite and Hutton were both named to the Ledyard Bank Classic All-Tournament Team…With an assist on Sunday, Nick Schaus (Buffalo, NY) extended his team-lead with 19 points on four goals and 15 assists…UML will play twice next weekend, traveling to New Hampshire on Friday and Northeastern on Saturday… The River Hawks’ rematch with the Huskies will be broadcast live on NESN, starting at 7:30 p.m.
MERRIMACK: Playing in the 21st and final Badger Hockey Showdown, Merrimack played in front of an announced crowd of 13,962, the larg-est in school history…The Warriors played Wisconsin for the first time ever and Ferris State for the second time and the first since moving to Division I…Merrimack finishes the regular season 3-4 against non-con-ference teams, going 3-0 at home and 0-4 on the road…Head Coach Mark Dennehy played in the first-ever Badger Holiday Showdown when he attended Boston College before coaching in the final year of the tournament…Stephane Da Costa (Paris, France), who was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for the third straight month, saw his point streak snapped at 11 games, the longest in Merrimack’s history since joining Division I. Da Costa continues to lead all rookies in the country in points per game and all Hockey East rookies in points with twenty-one…the Merrimack power play has goals in 13 of the last 15 games and ranks sixth nationally…Merrimack’s combined special teams continues to be second nationally, behind Cornell…The Warriors, who are in the midst of a seven-game, 49-day road trip, return to Hockey East action on Saturday at the University of Maine.
NEW HAMPSHIRE: Sunday afternoon’s 5-2 loss to Cornell snapped a four-game winning streak and seven-game unbeaten streak. A streak which spanned 50 days going back to an overtime loss at UMass on Nov. 13… Brian Foster stopped 38 shots including 18 in the second period… Junior Matt Campanale tallied a goal and an assist factoring in both UNH goals on Sunday. It was the junior’s first collegiate goal… The loss was just the second home loss of the season and the first since the home opener on Oct. 16, 2009… UNH is 4-2-2 at home and will continue its span of three-straight games at the Whitt when it plays host to UMass-Lowell on Friday night and UMass on Saturday night… The Wildcats are 6-0-1 in their last seven games against Hockey East foes and still sit in first place in Hockey East with an 8-2-2 mark… Sunday’s game marked the return of seniors Nick Krates and Brian Foster. Foster had missed the last game with a knee injury, while Krates had missed 10-straight and 11 of 13 with a high-ankle injury… Sophomore forward Stevie Moses has six assists in the last four games for New Hampshire.
NORTHEASTERN: Northeastern won the Ledyard National Bank Clas-sic with a 2-1 win over #12 UMass Lowell in the championship game preceding by a 7-0 trouncing of Dartmouth in the first round of the tournament. The victory marks the Huskies’ first tournamen champion-ship since winning the Badger Showdown on Dec. 28-29, 2008 when NU defeated Bowling Green an Colgate in Madison, Wisc. Freshman Chris Rawlings surrendered only one goal in both tournament games, bearing Tournament MVP honors. Rawlings earned his second-career shutout over host-Dartmouth in the first round of the tournament. The North Delta, British Columbia stopped 60 combined shots over the weekend. Sophomore Alex Tuckerman joined freshman Jake Newton as part of the Ledyard National Bank All-Tournament team. Tuckerman dialed up a powerplay goal in both outings while Newton’s game-winner sent the Huskies to the championship. Both skaters had three-points over the course of the tournament with each registering a goal and an assist against Dartmouth. In the first game of the tournament against the Big Green, seven different Huskies attacked the net. Northeastern’s seven-goal triumph marks the largest margin of victory under head coach Greg Cronin’s tenure. The Huskies tabulated 42 shots in the contest, marking a season-best.
PROVIDENCE COLLEGE: Providence College is in the midst of a 30-day break and will return to action against Boston College on Tuesday, January 12 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.…Through 17 games this season, junior Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Calif.) already has a career-high seven goals this season … He is also one point shy of equaling his career mark of 13 points which he set during the 2008-09 campaign. MacKinnon has scored four goals in the last five games, including two against No. 19 UNH on December 11…The Friars have posted an 8-4-2 record in the month of January in the last two seasons.
VERMONT: The Catamounts finished the regular season with a 6-1 non-league mark…Vermont is 13-3-1 in its last 17 non-confer-ence games…The Catamounts are 5-3-1 against ranked opponents this season…Junior Justin Milo (Edina, Minn.) has 14 points in 12 games…Vermont’s 5-2 win over Minnesota-Duluth on Sunday gave the Catamounts their third Sheraton/TD Bank Catamount Cup title in the last five years…Vermont is 9-2-1 under head coach Kevin Sneddon in the Catamount Cup…Freshman Sebastian Stålberg (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored his first career goal in Sunday’s 5-2 win over Duluth…Stålberg became the 16th different Catamount to score a goal this season…Ver-mont is 59-18-15 in its last 92 games when scoring first…Senior Colin Vock (Orlando, Fla.) has a six-game point streak and has recorded nine points in that stretch…Vermont has jumped to ninth in the latest Pairwise Ratings entering this week…Former Catamount and current Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas ‘97 was named to the U.S. Olympic Team last Friday following Boston’s 2-1 overtime win against Philadelphia in the Winter Classic at Fenway Park.
