At Northeast Residence, it takes a dedicated team to fulfill our mission.

Since 1973, Northeast Residence, Inc. has supported individuals and families in many of our programs, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. As each day passes to the next, the people we serve are safe because our qualified and dedicated staff members are nearby to assist. In the mix of the daily routines for the people we serve, our priority is their safety, but we also pay attention to their life experiences and aspirations. Whether the person being served is in one of our 25 group homes, in respite care, in extended day care, or adult day care, our staff embodies Northeast Residence’s hallmark “secret sauce” for quality care.

We have many dedicated employees that have worked here for 5, 10, 15, 20, and even 25 years or more. I have the privilege of witnessing so many of them coming to work and enjoying their work, embracing the mission of Northeast Residence.

Here are some of the ways our employees demonstrate their care for the people being served here;

They have volunteered for Special Olympics teams over the years. If they are not formal volunteers, they ensure that the athletes arrive on time and have fun at these events! They volunteer for other events, such as the bonfire, luau, walking club, and planning picnics.

They provide a shoulder to cry on or help work through a problem after a person served or a co-worker has a bad day or is upset.

They pour their hearts into cooking meals for the individuals served. They assist in packing lunches for work the next day. They work to assist people to get ready for work or go to appointments. They clean the homes they work in. They go grocery shopping. They remind people about or assist people with laundry.

They drive people to the coffee shop, swimming, Target, Walmart, out to dinner, to movies, to sporting events, to the gym, to mom and dads or other family events, to the store to buy the costume for the bon fire and the Hawaiian shirt for the luau, to vacations, to be with friends, and to picnics.

They go for walks and bike rides. They enjoy the summer evening by sitting on the porch or deck. They dance, play music, and sing. They paint nails, do hair, and take people for haircuts. They do art projects.

They complete timesheets to ensure people are paid. They take the time to say thank you to co-workers. They take the time to say thank you to the individuals they serve. They pay bills. They double and triple check time cards. They balance checkbooks. They follow laws and regulations and finish paperwork.

They hire people. They train people. They deal with difficult situations that may arise. They work with counties to be sure we are paid correctly.

Page 4: Northeast Residence, Inc. 2016 Annual Report · Northeast Residence, Inc. 2016 Annual Report Making a difference in our communities every day Northeast Residence, Inc. creates opportunities

They take people to their doctor appointments. They wake up in the middle of the night to take some-one to the hospital or to assist individuals with what they need. They have cared for someone who is dying. They have attended a funeral for the people we care for. They have made brownies or dishes to share for these funerals. They pick up shifts when a co-worker cannot make it to work, or when there is not enough staff at the site to fill the shift. They recruit their family and friends to work here. They support their fellow co-workers. They mentor people formally and in-formally.

They have had a bad or difficult day. They have smiles on their face despite their difficulties.

They come to work; they care! They see the joy in the eyes of the people they care about just because they walk in the door!

They make future plans; they help people dream and live their best lives. There are so many different roles that the team at Northeast Residence fills. What they do is important to the families of the people we serve, as well as those we serve directly. It takes a team, and the quality of care provided through Northeast Residence is a tribute to the quality of the team I have the privilege of leading.

As an employee of Northeast Residence, a friend, a family member, donor, business sponsor, or volunteer, recognize that many of these statements apply to you! We are proud of the role you play and appreciate your valuable contribution.

Dear Friends of Northeast Residence, Inc.,

Celebrating is so easy to do!!! We want to celebrate the support that you continue to provide that allows us to advance the vision and spawn innovation at NER. As 2016 becomes yesterday, we are celebrating the opportunities for those we serve and those whom we will be able to serve as we head into 2017, tomorrow, and beyond.

Plans are underway to increase programming for extended day services, adult day programming and respite services. We are advancing plans for a new building that will house several programs and become the corporate or main office.

You have been an integral part of providing opportunities for 150 individuals served during 2016. The organization has twenty-eight programs and services: Long-term residential care is provided to 96 residents; there are two after school extended-day programs, an adult day care program, in-home services, and a respite-care program. The respite-care program is the only one of its type in the United States! There are 290 full and part-time employees. The NER budget is over 9 million dollars. The organization is commended for maintaining an administrative overhead of just 12.3%. We want you to become an active part of showing us all that we can do in very challenging times.

As we look back on 2016 we want to thank you for your continued generosity and support of the NER’s Annual Giving program, the Annual Fundraising Dinner, the Golf Tournament, Walk, Run and Roll 5K, and the Friends of NER Legacy Program. The individual and corporate partnerships and support of NER permitted the organization to provide economic support for special projects including resident camping, vacation opportunities, supported specialized equipment, employee training and development, employee scholarships, after school programs, and new program development.

The board of directors remains steadfast in assuring the financial health of the organization that promotes opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities to live a joyous life at their fullest potential.
