The community-based, comprehensive boundary study is tasked with meeting the following key objectives:
• Reduce overcrowding in the region.
• Create viable, successful boundaries to effectively utilize the added capacity at the new northeast area elementary school and the other schools involved in the study.
• Support diversity among schools that reflects the community and the school system.

• Special permission transfer will be approved during the first year of aboundary change for students currently enrolled in Grades 4-5, 7-8, or11-12 of the school affected by a change in attendance area, andstudents express their wish to remain in the school through theirterminal grade.
• If a student who meets the criteria above has a sibling currently enrolledin the affected school, the sibling will be given the option of remaining inthe affected school through his/her terminal grade.

• 0 students in new PB 163.
• Honeygo Boulevard ran throughthe middle of PB 29. It is alsothe edge of the Chapel Hillwalkable area.

• The Oakleigh ES satellite area has been removed in both Options 7 and 8.
• PB 16, within the walkable area of Carney ES remains at Carney ES.
• New ES zone is more compact and does not span as far south.
• Schools on the southern end of the study area are impacted less, with the thought that they will/could get further relief with future school construction projects.

• Fewer students in Perry Hall ES and Joppa View ES are impacted, with expectation that these schools will get more relief with new future schools.
• All students within a walkable area attend their school.
Limitations• Although utilization for the new NE
ES is balanced, providing relief in future via relocatables will be difficult.

• Perform two exercises to evaluate DRAFT options and build consensus on options that will be presented at the Public Information Session and in the online survey.
• Identify common thoughts among committee members on options that best meet the objectives and considerations of the boundary study.

• Be inclusive by allowing each group member adequate time and space to voice ideas, opinions, and concerns. And, allow for wait time between responses.
• Spend adequate time considering how each proposed change will impact diverse stakeholders.
• Be mindful of the Boundary Study Guidelines and use each as a guide in the collaborative process.
• If conflict arises, be mindful of tone and body language. Use “I” statements to avoid blame and to clarify points and/or feelings.

Look at information in several ways:
Study the Geography - i.e. shape of the current and option boundary
• Look at where the lines shift away from the current vs. the option.
• Look at road networks and envision how school buses and parents would travel to school; locate natural features such as parks and waterway.
Study the Tables• Review the balance of enrollment.
• Consider future projected enrollment.
• Consider future capital projects.
