Native Duluthian with Iron Range roots, UMD graduate, ski bum, attended flight school and served in the MN Air Guard (2LT), US Forest Service Administration in Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota; was a Foreman for Erie Min-ing Company and worked in the logging industry. President Isabella Jaycees. Helped establish Stony River Town-ship. Raised family in Isabella. Both children, LSSD graduates, were awarded Alworth Scholarships, graduating from Michigan Tech. I served as a Lake County delegate to the Association of Minnesota Counties for over 22 years and represented County interests on numerous boards and commissions. More recently moderated and published the Dialog Group notes for some twenty years, continuing well after retiring. BCLP graduate, February 1988. We moved to Knife River in 1988. My wife, Sue, and I are very involved in Finnish ethnic activities. She participates in a Finn musical group which performs throughout the area. I serve as their camp follower.

Interesting personal tidbit: In 1967, I served as the Forest Service’s official photographer recording the Canadian Centennial Voyageurs passage through the BWCA. That traditional fur trade route later became recognized in the 1795 Jay Treaty as defining a portion of the International Border. This spectacular event featured colorfully garbed teams paddling North Canoes, with each team representing a province. They traversed Canada from West to East commemorating the Confederation Centennial. The short time I spent with those cranked up Canucks on Basswood Lake houseboats was memorable. Unfortunately, there was no way to record their music. How time passes.
