Representatives from all three governments met in a North Vancouver traffic loopWednesday to unveil plans for a new interchange on Highway 1 at Mountain Highway. Under the conceptual design, Mountain Highway will get a new four-lane overpass, linking it directly with Brooksbank Avenue, plus new on-ramps onto the Cut, northbound and southbound. Mountain Highway will also be home to a new off-ramp from the southbound Cut. That should make for an easy connection to the Fern Street overpass via the widened Keith Road bridge, which the district is currently working on, according to Gavin Joyce, the district’s manager of engineering. When completed, the project will have the effect of separating bridge traffic from east- west traffic, which currently jockey for the same space. “We think it will be significant,” Joyce said. “It’s not going to solve all of the problems but we believe 30 Motorcyclist in Aug. The NorthVancouverman who spent nearly 27years in jail after beingwrongfully convictedfor a string of sexualoffences started his civilsuit against the Crownin Canadas top courtThursday.

The Supreme Courtof Canada will decide ifIvan Henrys charter rightswere violated after theCrown failed to discloserelevant informationduring his original trial. The court will also decideif Henry is entitled to seekdamages.

Henry, 67, wasimprisoned from 1983to 2009 after the courtsfound him guilty of 10sexual assaults. He wasdeclared a dangerousoffender and sentencedto an indenite numberof years behind bars. But during his trial, the prosecution did notdisclose the discoveryof DNA evidence, theexistence of an alternativesuspect and how similarsexual assaults continuedafter Henrys arrest.

In 2002, police re-investigated the unsolvedsexual assaults andobtained DNA matchesfor the alternative suspect, who then pleaded guiltyto several of the assaults.Eight years later, theB.C. Court of Appealoverturned Henrysconvictions and enteredacquittals on all counts.

The David AsperCentre for ConstitutionalRights and the B.C. CivilLiberties Association havejointly intervened in thecase.

So far, the Crown hasargued Henrys claimshould not proceedbecause he is unableto show the implicatedprosecutors actedmaliciously.

The provinces appealcourt agreed, but Henrywas granted leave toappeal the decision tothe Supreme Court ofCanada, which agreed tohear his case last May.

Henry has served moretime in jail than any otherCanadian wrongfullyconvicted of a crime.

The case couldpotentially result inHenry being awardeda multimillion-dollarsettlement.With les from Jane Seyd

Volkswagen has nallyunveiled its much-anticipated seventh-generation Golf. The 2015Golf has been redesignedfrom the ground up, andthanks to its earlier releasein Europe, has alreadyreceivedmany accoladesincluding the 2013WorldCar of theYear award.

TheVWGolf is theworlds second best-sellingmodel in history with about30 million of them soldover 40 years. The originalwas made in 1974 andwas designed as a front-wheel drive, front-enginereplacement forVWs air-

Building on the Beetlescore philosophy, the GolfMk1 was simple, good

looking, had an affordableprice and was ahatchback. It seemed like agood idea at the time andthe concept still holds valueas each new generationsticks with the same recipe.

James May, host of BBCsTop Gear, recently said,Golfs are like potatoes.Youwouldnt want to do withoutthem, even though theyrenot really that exciting.

That is until you considerthe sporty GTI version.

onVolkswagens corporateMQB Platform and shares it

with the Audi A3.Throughengineering advances, this Golf is the safest, besthandling and roomiest of alltime.

Despite all of the sheetmetal being new, the2015 Golf is still instantlyrecognizable. The two-boxprole remains, but the hoodis steeper and the narrowgrille is anked by sharperheadlights.
