Pastor David will normally be in the church office Monday – Thursday, and the best time to reach him at the

office will be before lunch. If you need to reach him after office hours, please call him at home, (607) 397-

3173. If your call is normal church business, please save the call until office hours; call him at home whenever

the matter cannot wait until the office is open.

Dear friends,

Summer is here at last – just ask any kid you bump into! For the first time in several years at our church, summer means a week (or more) at Camp Whitman, the camp ministry program of Geneva Presbytery, located on beautiful Seneca Lake in Penn Yan.

I believe firmly in Christian camp ministry – a week when children can enjoy God’s creation, and learn about God’s love. As so many of you know from personal experience, church camp is often a crucial part of a young person’s spiritual development.

There’s a lot of things that make me happy and proud to be your pastor, but I think the top of the list is our church’s response to Camp Whitman this year. I had a humble goal in mind when I invited Lea Cone, camp director, to speak to our church – let’s see if we can get two, perhaps three children to go to camp this summer, and let’s see if we can give them a little financial help so they can get there.

Well, guess what! Eleven children – that’s right, ELEVEN – are going to Camp Whitman this summer, and seven of those eleven will come back for Mission Camp, in August. And that’s not all – between our Campership fundraising, and Geneva Presbytery’s Campership funds, all of these kids are going to camp on full scholarship – no expense for the families.

Thank you, friends, from the bottom of my heart, for your generous and amazing support of our children. Your gifts and your prayers have made possible a time of profound spiritual growth for all these young people. You are truly keeping the vows that you made, as a congregation, for each child baptized here – to guide and nurture these young disciples on their journey in Christ.

On page four, you’ll find the names of each child and adult who are going to camp this summer, and the dates they’ll be there. Please be in prayer, during the appropriate week, for Ana, Chloe, Jacob, Gunner, Isabella, Brittany, Rikki, Malik, Allysa, Brenna, and Olivia; and adult leaders Deb & Mike Stamp, Cathy Campbell, and David Preisendanz. Pray that God will use this time for each person, young and not-so-young, to grow in relationship to Jesus Christ, to each other, and to God’s world.

May God’s blessings be upon you this summer,

David Preisendanz

NPC hosts a monthly blood drive, usually held on the first Thursday of every month. We will host a Community Blood Drive this

month on Thursday, July 6 from noon to 4 pm. New and returning donors are welcome. Please contact the Red Cross at 1-800 RED CROSS or www.redcrossblood.org for an appointment.

There will be a Church Family Workday on July 8 at 9:00 am. Please see Mickey Vischansky with any questions. All are invited to come and help!

Thanks to the generous support of our

Campership Fund by the congregation,

North Pres will be sending ten of our youth

to Camp Whitman this July. Please

continue to support their camp experience

through prayer; as they explore the outdoors, develop new

friendships and grow in their connection to Jesus Christ.

July 2 - 7: Pastor David will serve as Camp Whitman Clergy.

July 9 - 14: Brenna Wilson will attend Water Fun; where campers spend time at camp swimming, playing

water games, boating, slipping and sliding.

July 16 - 21: Isabella Runyan (pioneer camp 7/16 - 7/18), Jacob Wilcox, Gunner Wilcox, and Malik Marshall

will attend Whitman Olympics; where campers will participate in a series of land and water sports as

individuals and as teams.

July 23 - 28: Brittany Strong and Rikki Kolk will attend Outdoor Adventures; where campers will spend extra

time outdoors - hiking, boating, building campfires, cooking outside and sleeping out under the stars.

July 30 - August 4: Allysa Corsi, Ana Edwards, and Chloe Donovan will attend Night Owl; where campers will

stay up late, cooking a late night snack over the campfire and sleep in every morning (beginning their day

with lunch). Night-time focused activities will include flashlight tag, glow-in-the-dark ultimate frisbee,

stargazing and night hikes.

Wednesday Bible Study

What? Growing Older and Wiser: a nine week study looking at applying the timeless truths of scripture, no matter our age.

Who? All are welcome at anytime. Feel free to bring a lunch. Contact Bobbi Furnas if you have questions at 733-4712.

When? Wednesday afternoons from 12:00-1:00 pm. We started this study on June 14. It will run through August 16.

Where? The Brisbane Room.

Congratulations Graduates!

North Presbyterian member Michaela

Johnson and fellow bell choir member

Laura Butts both graduated summa

cum laude from Elmira College in

June. Both also were honored as

members of Phi Beta Kappa.

Michaela was awarded the Provost

Prize for Academic Excellence in the

education field. Laura was awarded

the Carmine John Parker '79 Prize,

given to a graduate with "promise as

a leader in global citizenship".

The August 13, 2017 church service will be held at 10:30 am, an hour later than our normal time, in the Hal Roach Pavilion at Grove Park, Elmira. The park is bordered by Walnut Street and is located

north of Fourth Street. We will move on to activities and the picnic immediately following worship. The fellowship committee will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, condiments, lemonade and water.

Congregation members are asked to bring a favorite dish to pass and their own table service. We are looking for some members to bring their

own lawn chairs to supplement the 56 seats that are already there.

The parking lot entrance is located on Grove Street between Fourth and Logan Streets. The terrain is flat and easily

accommodates those with mobility concerns. Bathroom facilities will be available throughout the day. The pavilion does not have a full working kitchen, but it does have counters, electrical outlets and a sink. We hope to see you all August 13!

United Way Day of Action

On June 16 Nancy Snyder and seven

other members of First Heritage Federal

Credit Union joined me in the Pantry Patch

as part of the United Way’s Day of action.

We were one of dozens of sites who

benefited from volunteer work on that day

to help improve the community.

Our group harvested 3 1/2 quarts of Sugar

Ann snap peas, five quarts of Swiss chard, 8

1/2 dozen garlic scapes and 3 1/2 dozen

green onions. After prepping and packaging

all of the produce it was delivered to the

food pantry to give out that day when it

opened at 10 a.m.

We returned to the garden and weeded ten

of the raised beds and planted another sixty

onion sets in the bed from which we had

just picked. It was amazing

how much work got done

by nine people in just two

hours.

Pictures from the day’s

activities are included in

the slide show projected

in the narthex, along with

other recent church

events.

Children & Youth

Summer is here and soon Vacation Bible School and the Youth Mission trip

will be in full swing. We also have ten campers getting ready for their first

week of camp ever, and they are all brimming with excitement. This looks

like it’s shaping up to be a fun filled summer for the youth of our church!

I would like to thank all the adults who helped put Children and Youth

Sunday together and all the youth who participated. It was a wonderful

service filled with scripture and music and I couldn’t be prouder of all our

kids!

I would like to invite anyone who would still like to volunteer for VBS to

please call me. It is a great week of fun and learning for our youth, as well

as the youth of our community, and a fun week for the adults who help

out. The theme this year is SonTreasure Island - so come out and see what

“treasures” God has in store for us.

Blessings to all!
