It’s amazing how fast time flies. The
year is already half over and many of
the happenings and events of our or-
ganization are in full swing! I’m going to start off with a huge
thanks to our maintenance crew.
They have been doing a fantastic job.
Extra thanks to those of you who
mow and take care of the weeds, and
keeping up with them through all of
the rain we’ve had. Another big shout out to Michael
Blinkhorn and Rich Ries. They
worked their butts off in the kitchen
during our zone shoot in May. On the note of the zone shoot,
the Eastern Zone Shoot was a huge
success. Roughly 58,000 clay pigeons
were launched into the air with
about 175 attendees. The overall net
profit was around $8,000. We will be
hosting the Central Zone Shoot on
the 27th, 28th, & 29th of July. Neither
of these events, or any other trap
shoots we have, would be possible
without the tremendous amount of
help we receive from Jack Shroyer
and Taylor, our manager. They do so
much behind the scenes that most of
our members and customers do not
see. We have been continuing on our
routine maintenance of the traps, 5
stand, ranges, and lake, as well as tak-
ing care of the duck weed.
I want to address some concerns
that have been voiced about our
constitution and by-laws. A commit-
tee has been formed and has met to
rewrite our founding documents.
They have been working really hard
to bring them up to date. If you don’t know, our club was founded
in 1931. We’re approaching 100
years! A lot has changed in the
world during that time. Rest as-
sured, we are working swiftly to
make the updates and, if everything
stays on track, it will be in our fall
newsletter for your convenience, as
well as on our website. If you haven’t been to our web-
site lately, stop over and check out
our new range and lake rules. There
are some big changes, so be sure to
read them and make sure you are
following all rules appropriately. The
signs posted at each range and at
the lake will be changed soon since
the weather has cleared up. Many of
you have been calling and asking
about membership. Abby has been
working very hard to keep up with flow of envelopes. She makes it a
priority to mail out all cards as soon
as a SASE is received. She has no
more envelopes at this time. It
seems as though many have been
lost within our postal system. If you
still have not received your card,

please see Taylor in the office. She will be able
to write you a new card. I do not recommend
having another card mailed to you if you have
not received it yet. PLEASE come to our office
so we can ensure your card makes it into your
hands. Abby has been trying to combat this issue
by taking our membership system completely
online. Hopefully, by next year, you will be able
to pay your dues online, sign all forms with a
digital signature, and be able to print your card
out just like with certain NRA certificates or a
hunting/fishing license. It’s a very long process
to make sure that the online system works, but
it is still in compliance with our insurance regu-
lations. Of course, a pen and paper version will
still be available to you folks without comput-
ers. We will keep you updated on this process
as it moves along. I will close by asking for volunteers and
those who have ideas to bring forward. This
club thrives on its volunteers. It’s a members
club. If we don’t have our members and our
volunteers, this club isn’t going anywhere.
Please consider coming to our events and
fundraisers as they happen, or even coming in
to run an event. We appreciate all efforts
made. I know it isn’t said enough, so if you
haven’t been thanked for your efforts lately,
THANK YOU for all you do! I personally ap-
preciate everything you do to make this club
thrive. Best regards, Joe
********************************************** Club Policies General
First – Sign in! The log books provide us
with valuable information on the operation and
usage of our activities. It is also mandatory
that you sign in when using the rifle range, pis-
tol range and don’t forget the lake. Second – Wear your badge! You are
required to display your badge when utilizing
the Pistol and Rifle ranges, fishing in the lake
and camping on the grounds. You are not re-
quired to display your badge on the trap or

sporting clays ranges, turkey shoots or other
open the public activities. When camping it is
sufficient to have your badge in your possession
or displayed somewhere at your campsite.
Third - Do not open the gate for any-
one that cannot not produce a current
year membership card (badge). If they
have their card with them then they will know
the correct combination…
Pertaining to our rifle and pistol ranges..
Everyone was recently notified that we have
temporarily restricted the use of steel targets
on our ranges. As I stated in the notice, please
understand this was not a decision that was made lightly. We have a responsibility to all club
members and our local communities to ensure
our range operations are conducted in a safe
and secure manner. Our safety record is out-
standing and it is our intention to maintain that
record.
We are already working on range enhance-
ments to allow us to return to using steel tar-
gets. Be aware that violation of this directive
will be taken extremely serious and loss of
membership is a very real possibility! We will
notify everyone when steel targets are once
again allowed to be used.
Range Policies and Etiquette:
Our ranges provide a safe and enjoyable
place to practice with your firearms. We pro-
vide a safe backstops for bullets providing that
shooters position their targets properly and
follow commonsense safety rules. Remember -
shooting at our ranges is a communal activity.
Loaded firearms demand concentration and re-
spect. Every shooter at the range expects safety
rules to be followed and conduct to fall within
the bounds of accepted range etiquette.
Rifle & Pistol Range Rules
The following safety rules have been
established to ensure the health and safe-
ty of those individuals who use or fre-

quent this facility and the community at
large.
All persons at the ranges must comply
with all safety rules. Failure to follow the
rules as stated will result in disciplinary
action and may result in loss of member-
ship. All persons using the range are lia-
ble for improper use of the range and
firearms.
General Rules
Use of the range is during daylight hours on-
ly and must be after 9 AM. The range will be
closed on Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, and
during other prescheduled events. Each person is responsible for the complete
removal of their live and dud ammunition from
the range facility upon completion of range use.
All empty casings should be swept off the con-
crete towards the firing line with the push
broom or taken home.
No alcohol or drugs are permitted on the
ranges. No shooting under the influence of alco-
hol or drugs. No misuse of prescription drugs.
Prescription drugs that have cautions for driving
a motorized vehicle should apply as a caution
against using the range.
No shooting at animals, birds, or other wild-
life.
You must have your NLFGC membership
card visibly shown. You must sign in to the reg-
istration book.
Concealed carry firearms must remain hol-
stered while at the rifle range.
Safety equipment must be appropriately
worn when you walk into the pavilion. This in-
clude safety glasses and adequate ear protec-
tion.
All accidents that involve people and prop-
erty must be reported as noted in a separate
bulletin that is specific to accidents. All contact
information is listed at each range pavilion.
Club members are responsible to read and
understand published and distributed range
rules. The range rules are available online and at the range pavilions.
Firearm Safety Rules
All gun safety rules as recognized by the
NRA and National Shooting Sports Foundation
must be followed. The rules as stated in this
document do not override the rules of these
organizations but are meant to expand and
highlight these rules for the club members.
You must follow the 5 second rule between
shots. Automatic or “Bump Firing” is prohibit-
ed.
The muzzle of your firearm should always
be pointed in a safe direction.
Your finger should be off the trigger until
you are on the firing line, your firearm is point-
ed at your target, and you are ready to shoot. Muzzles should always point down range.
When you are packing up to leave and you’ve
unloaded your firearm, the muzzle should be
controlled and pointed in a safe direction – UP!
No handling loaded firearms behind the yellow
safety line. This includes carrying firearms to
and from the range pavilion with the exception
if the firearm is inside a carrying case.
Firearms may only be fired behind the red
safety line.
All actions must be open while behind the
yellow safety line.
Use precaution with new firearms or fire-
arms that may be challenging. Do not allow rel-
atives, friends, minors, or guests to use fire-
arms that may prove difficult to handle. You
are responsible to understand the operation of
the firearm that you are using and responsible
for reading the safety information for your fire-
arm, using a firearm at the range makes you
liable for damage to property or injury. If you
cannot control your firearm, you should not be
shooting it.
Shooters are responsible to know where
their rounds are going. All rounds should be
into the back stop or foam insulation board
(rifle range). Rounds hitting the flat land in front
of or below the intended target are not permit-
ted. Ricochet rounds are not permitted. Shoot-
ers must correct any non-permitted condition.
Page 4 North Lawrence Fish & Game Club
Caliber and Type Specific Firearm Rules
50 Caliber BMG can only be used at the 200
yard targets. Other 50 caliber type rifles may be
used at other distances on the range.
Shotguns are allowed only if using a single
projectile similar to a rifle. Buckshot is not al-
lowed anywhere on the premises.
Minors using the range MUST be su-
pervised while handling firearms.
You must actively supervise minors (under
18) while they are handling/shooting any fire-
arm. If the minor is shooting, you are not. You
are to be supervising!
You must actively supervise minors who are
not handling/shooting firearms at any location. While at the range locations (and immediate
surrounding area) there will be no running,
climbing on tables or shooting stands, etc. No
minors are to be down range without being ac-
companied by an adult.
Guest Rules
As a club member, you are responsible for
the actions of the guests you bring to our club.
This definitely includes firing range activities. As
with a minor, it is your responsibility to accom-
pany and monitor your guests at all times while
they are on club property.
Member sponsored guests must complete a
guest form and pay the posted fee prior to using
the facility.
Target Rules
Paper targets are the ONLY allowed targets
on our ranges. NO OTHER TYPES OF TAR-
GETS ARE PERMITTED ON THE RANGES.
This comes with the exclusion of club sanc-
tioned events.
Paper targets can only be mounted to the
target boards, such as card board (pistol range)
or foam insulation board (rifle range). No paper
targets are allowed to be posted to any other
structure, or to the frame of target stands.
Target placement is critical, and all members
are responsible to fully understand the correct
location and height for targets on the range.
The only target stands allowed will be
NLFGC target stands, or any target stands be-
longing to members that meet our specifica-
tions. Target height is critical, and the stands
can only be made from wood or PVC.
Your shooting position must be directly in
front of your target. Shooting across lane is
strictly prohibited.
Targets for the 200 yard lane must be
placed at 200 yards. No other distance is al-
lowed for this specific lane.
You must use the appropriate shooting sta-
tions that are provided within the pavilion to
ensure you are shooting at the correct target. No targets closer than 50 yards on the rifle
range.
Shooting from the entry point to head down
range is prohibited at both ranges. These are
the areas protected by a PVC movable barrier.
Cease Fire and Target Check
No handling of firearms at the pavilion or
firing line during a cease fire or when people
are down range to change/check targets.
Any time a shooter is down range or it is
not safe to shoot, you must use the down
range/cease fire mechanism (PVC pipe with
drop down signs and walk way barrier) to signi-
fy it is not ok to shoot at this time.
Open all actions, lay the firearm down
on the table, and step away. Action/
chamber open & safety on.
A “cease fire” is a direct command. If a
cease fire is called, all participants are to put
down any firearms currently in hand, action
open, and to take a step back away from them,
and use the down range mechanism. A cease
fire can be called for any reason.
Any person can call a cease fire at any time
an unsafe condition is observed. All participants
must honor this by putting their firearms down
with the chamber open and the safety on.
A cease fire ends when either the cause for
the cease fire has been cleared, or when all par-

ticipants on the range signal that they all ready
to resume shooting.
NOTES
Sanctioned matches or shoots may have dif-
ferent rules or may allow variance from these
rules. The sanctioned range masters must get
prior approval by the Board of Directors for
rule modification during their specific event.
The pistol range can be used as a starting
point (25 yards) for sighting in rifles and slug
guns.
ON THE PISTOL RANGE ONLY: Double
tap is permitted, limited to 2 rounds, for the
purpose of Concealed Carry and practicing self-defense. ABSOLUTELY NO QUICK
DRAW.
These rules were updated and approved by
the Board of Directors on March 13th, 2018.

The NRA BUNKER
By Ed Harhager
“FREEDOM’S SAFEST
PLACE”…..THE NRA Don’t Wait…Please Join To-
day!!!! "Are we at last brought to such humiliat-
ing and debasing degradation, that we cannot be
trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the
difference between having our arms in possession
and under our direction and having them under
the management of Congress? If our defense be
the real object of having those arms, in whose
hands can they be trusted with more propriety,
or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?"
Patrick Henry
American Patriot
The Good News… The NRA has recently announced that
membership has increased to nearly 6 million peo-
ple. Congratulations to our countries largest de-
fender of our 2nd Amendment rights. Lt. Col. Oliver North is the new president
of the NRA. He was appointed to lead the fight
for our 2nd Amendment rights. As you know, the
anti-gun groups are in full assault mode to control
our firearms out of existence. Lt. Col. Oliver
North is a fighter and will be a great president of
the NRA.
Anti-Gun Legislators If you believe that the anti-gun crowd only
wants sensible gun laws and is not about confisca-
tion of our firearms, you only need to read the
two examples below.
Recently, Rep. Eric Stalwell of California
has called for the United States to ban the posses-
sion of military-style semiautomatic assault weap-
ons. Swalwell said the government should also
buy back any existing “weapons from all who
choose to abide by the law, and we should crimi-
nally prosecute any who chose to defy it by keep-
ing their weapons.” The Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois
voted recently to ban the possession, sale, and
manufacture of assault weapons and large capacity
magazines to “increase the public’s sense of safe-
ty.” What’s more, CBS Chicago reported that
anyone refusing to give up their banned firearm
will be fined $ 1,000 per day until the weapon is
handed over or removed from the town’s limits.
Ohio Firearm Legislation Governor John Kasichs’s commissioned a
study of gun safety following a series of school
shootings. His primary focus was to ban semi-
automatic firearms in Ohio. The commission
compromised to what is shown in the following
legislative bills. Two, recently proposed anti-gun laws
have been presented in Ohio: one in the house
and one in the Senate. They are nearly identical
in their content. They both destroy due process
and allow for gun confiscation. They both tie
Ohio’s state code to the Federal prohibited fire-
arms list enabling any anti gun president to ban
AR-15’s and other firearms for the people of
Ohio. Ohio House Bill 585 was initiated Nov 15,
2017 by Mike Henne (R). (as introduced) Ohio Senate Bill 288 was initiated April 9,
2018 by John Eklund [R] and Stephanie Kunze [R].
(in committee)
A summary of the two bills content: Allows police to take a persons firearms if a
court decides there is evidence that he/
she poses a threat. This is a threat to due
process under the law.
Orders clerks of court to upload into the
background database, on a weekly basis,
the names of people barred from owning
guns because of a history of violent crime,
drug use or mental illness.

Cub Scouts, Pack 933 Cubmaster Kim King
As our scouting year winds down for
the summer, I am proud to say that 40 out
of 42 scouts earn their rank with 4 of those
scouts crossing over to Troop 933. With
summer approaching, we have plenty of fun
planned for our summertime activities. In
May we participated in the North Lawrence
Memorial Day Parade where 28 out of 38
scouts threw candy to those standing along
the parade route. In June the scouts will
attend Hetuck District Day camp and We-
belos Resident Camp (WRC) at Seven
Ranges. July holds more fun and excitement
while attending the M.A.P.S museum. In Au-
gust the pack will have a weekend family
campout where we will hold a scavenger
hunt! As September rolls around we will
recruit new scouts at our “Join Scout
Night” to get the scouting year started. If
you know anyone interested in joining the
pack please have them contact Kim King at
330-705-7397.
Adopt into Ohio law the federal definition of an
automatic weapon. If we have an anti-gun
president in the future, then they could de-
termine that AR-15’s should be banned at a
federal level then Ohio law would follow
the same ban.
Takes away the right to buy or possess a gun if
a person is convicted of domestic violence
or subject to a protection order.
Outlaw armor-piercing ammunition in Ohio.
Increase the penalty for buying a gun for some-
one who is barred form owning one. The
penalty would be increased from 18 months
to 10 years of prison time. Ohio Senate Bill 260, initiated February 20, 2018 by
Skindell (D), Tavares (D), “prohibits a person from
knowingly acquiring an assault weapon; requires
Attorney General to have a database for firearm/
ammunition sales.” The bill defines an “assault
weapon” as a firearm capable of a fixed or detacha-
ble magazine with the capacity of 10 or more car-
tridges. You can follow Ohio’s firearm legislative
proposals at the following web site: legiscan.com/
OH Please consider joining the nearly 6 million
members who now belong to the NRA. Your
membership supports our North Lawrence Fish &
Game Club but more importantly you will be sup-
porting all of our second amendment rights. Please
remember that “The NRA needs YOU” be-
cause we grow one member at a time. Don’t think
that your membership is too small to matter. Join
today and join the other 5 million members of the
NRA.
NRA Membership Information: The NRA offers good deals on new memberships
from time to time. They have been offering new
memberships at discounted prices for one, two,
three and five year terms. Multiple years of new
membership is a great deal because you secure the
bargain price over each of those years. In addition, you get lots of free stuff, including in-
surance on your firearms and a magazine subscrip-
tion.

NLFG Retirees Club…Jeff
Barnhart president By Ed Harhager The Retirees club has had a very successful spring
season and we are all looking forward to our
summer meetings. More people are hearing of
the fun at this meeting and our turnout is surely
growing. A few highlights from our spring meetings are
noted below: Dennis Earl recently purchased a primitive
long bow with arrows which he brought
to the March meeting. The design is from
Native Americans of the North Eastern
Delaware tribes. It had a unique design
painted from earth paints that were au-
thentic to the period. It was designed to
25 # draw with a draw length specific for
Dennis. The bow is made of hickory and
the tapered arrows were made of Lodge
Poll pine with turkey feather fletching.
This bow uses the “Archers Paradox” as
do most long bows for directing the ar-
rows to the target. “Google it” if you
aren’t aware of this phenomenon.
The Retirees voted to contribute $ 50 for a
plaque to honor Veryl Tersky and his fam-
ily.
The group brought their favorite calls to the
March meeting for a mix of vocals from
turkey to crow.
Our April meeting set a new attendance rec-
ord of 46 attendees.
John Olenzac presented a portion of his 2,000
piece Indian artifacts collection at the
April meeting. The collection included
“bird point” arrowheads, large game ar-
rowheads, chipping and scraping tools,
ornamental pieces that depict a hierarchy
within the tribe, weight artifacts for fishing
nets, a war head and much more. The
most interesting piece was a spearpoint,
estimated to be 2,000 – 3,000 years old,
that was awarded 1 st place for a “Field
Find” by the archeological society. A large
part of the collection was found in the
Fox Lake area, on the east side of Wayne
county.
Jeff Barnhart displayed a petrified heart, found
in Texas, which was estimated between
10,000 and 1,000,000 years old. It was
large in size, from an unknown ancient
species. The Retirees club meets on the first Thursday of
each month in the club house at 10:00 AM. No
cost to join us. We even have free donuts and
coffee…surely beats the McDonalds retiree club.
No reservations required, just show up and have
a good time. All in all, it’s just a bunch of “Good Young Boys”
getting together to tell their stories and have
some fun at “the club”. We have a 50/50 raffle,
we have a show and tell each month, and we tell
some very interesting stories. Come try us
out!...We can use some new stories!
