North Hills Toastmasters – Club 2472
2016-2017 Year in Review
Past President’s Message: Missy Krause, CC Last year as incoming President I shared the quote, ―bloom where you
are planted.‖ This is something that’s meant a lot of different things
over the years. As I look back on this year in our club, I see how our
members continually do just that.
We faced a couple challenges this year, and each time, club members
faced the challenge head on. You shared thoughtful insights,
developed innovative solutions, and embraced changes throughout this year. But I think
what makes our club sensational is how our members are always there for each other and
for the benefit of the club. Each of you, fellow officers and members, has helped our club
this year. I’d especially like to recognize each of our outgoing officers.
Kristy, we knew you would be an awesome VP of Education with your excellent
organizational skills and attention to detail. We learned that you are amazingly dedicated,
continuing to serve as VPE even when your work schedule made it impossible for you to
attend most of the meetings in the second half of the year. You helped us achieve our
educational goals, and led your meeting manager team beautifully from afar.
Dan, as VP of membership, you were always ready to greet our guests and welcome them to
the club. You kept me informed of who might be visiting our club each meeting so I could
prepare to welcome them. You helped them find a member to sit with for the meeting and
made them feel comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.
Al, as VP of PR, you kept us entertained, you brought the message of Toastmasters to the
community, and you made sure that our Facebook page reflected the highlights of our
meetings. Thank you especially for the beautiful display of balloon art tonight.
Linda, as Secretary, you kept the minutes and proceedings of our club accurately and
promptly. You went above and beyond to help me remember various tasks and activities
throughout the year, give me advice when I needed it, and kept things running smoothly.
Peter, as Treasurer, you made sure we got our dues in, and paid our bills on time.
Karl, as Sergeant at Arms, you were always at the meeting early, getting us set up. You
gave us a well organized and professional looking meeting space. You helped our speakers
deliver their speeches by arranging the stage area as they requested it, and helped me
figure out the technology in that meeting room.
Chad, as our immediate past President, you left huge shoes to fill. I’m forever thankful for
your guidance, for the Google docs to keep everything running smoothly, and for finding us
a great group of new officers for the coming year.To our new officers, and each of our club
members, I’m looking forward to the upcoming Toastmasters year. May we continue to
bloom!

AUGUST 26 MEETING RECAP
(a written poem - by B Wise)
I think that I shall never see a poem
lovely as a tree
And if you think this one will be better,
your brain has gotten wet—and wetter.
Our dues keep going up and up: Peter is
going to need a tin cup.
Tonight he was here to lead the show
Having just escaped from Hawaii 5-0.
Summer vacay was the theme for the
night.
Guess so! Did we reach a quorum? Not
quite!
John Docherty spoke about his favorite
game
And a memorable trip to the Hall of
Fame.
Kristy instructed us all about teams;
We found out if we’re reds, blues, yellows
or greens.
Rick told a story of Shirley, his wife,
His guardian angel still touching his life.
Deirdre our guest! What a member she’d
be!
All she needs, Mom, is a wee fake ID.
JoAnn, Rich and Missy weighed in on the
speeches
Then Jennifer sent us all off to the
beaches.
Our G.E., C.B., did the meeting review.
Awards were presented to Bri, Jo and
YOU.
Chad, thank you so much for being our
timer,
And now—aren’t we lucky!—we end with
a rhymer!
But next there’s a scouting trip, so come
with me
As we check out the scene at Burgatory.
