kids to get involved in
these events?
Answer: Yes, because it
makes them much more
mature than if they did
not.
As can be seen St. Bald-
ricks is a very important
and great way to help
people with cancer. We
should all be proud to be
part of this event and all
the good things that come
from it. If you were not
part of the celebration
this year you can still
help out by donating any
amount of money to our

that our school can help

Another Great St. Baldricks for North Haven
By Francesco Spirli’
On March 11th, all of the
schools in North Haven
came together to cele-
brate the fifth annual St.
Baldricks event at the
North Haven Middle
School. For those who do
not know, St. Baldricks is
a fantastic charity event
that has been raising
money since 2000 to fight
child hood cancer in the
U.S. All of the schools in
North Haven combined
were able to raise an in-
credible sum of $50,593
for this great cause. The
school that raised more
than half of that amount
was the Ridge Road
Team with its grand total
of $25,952. The Middle
School itself raised
$9,634.88 which landed it
in as the second top fun-
der in the North Haven
Schools St. Baldricks
event. St. Baldricks has
become a tradition in the
North Haven Middle
School, with our team
that reached more than 60
shavees in just a little
more than a week. This
event also helps kids of
all ages see the impor-
tance of helping out those
less fortunate and I be-
lieve that it truly gives
everyone that participates
in it a great feeling of
accomplishment. At the
event I was able to ask
Riley Powell, the second
top participant for the
North Haven Middle
School Team, who raised
a great amount of $708, a
few questions about the
event.
Question: How many
years have you been par-
ticipating in St. Bald-
ricks?
Answer: I have been in
St. Baldricks for four
years.
Question: What is the
main reason why you do
this event?
Answer: To raise money
for those less fortunate
and to try and find a cure
for cancer.
Question: What is the
most money that you
have raised for this
event?
Answer: About $1600.
Question: How long have
you been growing your
hair for St. Baldricks?
Answer: Since last year’s
St. Baldricks.
Question: Do you think
that it is important for

Todd takes part in many extra-curricular activities. He is cur-rently an assistant pa-trol leader for his Boy Scout troop, where he has obtained the rank of Star Scout. He is also part of the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow, which partakes in ser-vice projects as well as occasional camporees and fellowships. His leadership skills come in handy as he helps out the younger kids in the troop, and assists the leaders of his for-mer Cub Scout Pack 801 in activities such as
the summer carnival, Italian Festival and the Masonic Lodge clean-up. As a member of St. Therese CCD, he helps make sandwiches and packs food for the homeless shelter, and collects food and cloth-ing for the homeless and poor. Todd is a member of DeMolay, which is group that helps mold young men into productive commu-nity members by teach-ing them to treat others with respect and kind-ness. Besides partici-pating in these groups, Todd plays basketball on a recreational team and will be trying out for the track team in high school next year. NHMS is very proud of Todd for this recogni-tion.
How a Girl Met a Leprechaun

then Niall spotted it on
the roof of the Emperor
of China's palace (which
is called the Jade Palace).
So Niall and Leann

about how they are going
to get the soccer ball off
the roof! And Niall got
the idea of using his rain-

the top of the palace. So

Once upon a time, a girl
named Leann was play-
ing soccer with her dog
Jessie in her backyard.
She kicked the soccer ball
so far, that it rolled into
the woods. So, she ran in
the woods to get it. While
she was getting the soccer
ball, she saw a gold light
in the distance. She
walked closer to the light,
and saw a little man with
a green jacket on him,
carrying a pot of gold.
She said “Who are you”.
And he said that his name
was Niall! He said, “let
me find this thing you
call a soccer ball.” So
they went on a little jour-
ney to find the soccer
ball. I guess Leann
kicked the ball so far, that
it went into China! So
they went on a plane to

St. Patrick’s Day
By Charlotte Cecarelli
Page 5 Volume 1, Issue 1I
St. Patrick’s Day is a world known holiday celebrated on the same day each year (March 17), but I bet you didn’t
know where, when and how this famous holiday was started. Here is some basic information on how this day
originated and found a spot in history.
When you hear St. Patrick’s day what do you usually think of? I know that I usually think about green and
the country of Ireland. There is a reason for both of these statements and it has to do with the famous saint, Saint
Patrick who was the patron saint of Ireland. He was born in 390 AD in Britain, not actually Ireland. His parents
named him Maewyn, however he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland when he was just a young boy. He grew up
in Ireland with the kidnapper who was in fact a Christian. St. Patrick soon began to practice this religion more and
more. He soon escaped from his kidnappers 6 years later and ran back to Britain where he continued to practice
the religion of Christianity. His dreams were of him, going back to Ireland and teaching people about God. Before
going to Ireland he visited France, where he studied religion. Soon after the Pope named him Patricius, which is the
Latin name for Patrick, for doing continuous work to help others. He then became a priest and a bishop. He went
back to Ireland and taught people about praying to God. He was a very kind person, and built churches and
schools all over the country. People saw him doing these kind things and began to trust him more and more. St.
Patrick’s Day is celebrated in honor of this glorious saints death date on March 17th, 461 AD. After he died the
church named him a Saint. This is a little bit about how St. Patrick’s day was started.
Do you know why people wear green to celebrate this holiday? It is to honor Ireland’s fields and fertile
land. When you wear green you are honoring The Emerald Isle. People used to burn branches with green leaves
during the month of March and spread the ashes to make them fertile. Also this would supposedly make the fields
green. Also people decorate with not just green but with shamrocks as well. The shamrock is the symbol of Saint
Patrick and of Ireland.
I hope you learned something new from this article and I also hope you found the facts interesting.

Niti- Good day Rajni
Me- Niti, I have a few questions to ask.
Niti Go ahead Rajni.
Me-What is your favorite test on the CMTs?
Niti- I would say math is my personal favorite.
Me- Interesting, what is your least favorite?
Niti- I would say DRP, Hate them.
Me- Haha, What frightens you most about the CMTs?
Niti- Well Rajni, now that I think about it, I think that the amount of time given frightens me.
Me- I think so too! How do you feel about the different test on it?
Niti- The DRP’s vocabulary is too strong , Editing and revising is easy, Reading comprehension is easy, an I think
they need better topics for the Writing Prompt. Also I think math is very easy.
Me-Pretty honest answers. Are you looking forward to it?
Niti Not really.
Me- Do you think it will help you improve in the future?
Niti- No I don’t think so.
