A GREAT PLACE TO CALL HOME!
Located in northeast Harris County, the North Chan-nel area affords unique opportunities to business, indus-try and residents. Since 1977, The North Channel Area Chamber of Commerce has helped promote economic development and quality of life in the communities that make up the North Channel area. These communities include Channelview, Galena Park, Jacinto City, North Shore and Sheldon. The geographic service area in-cludes; west up to McCarty, east up to the San Jacinto River, north up to Lake Houston and south up to the Ship Channel. The mission of the Chamber is to pro-mote economic development and provide real solutions for business and community prosperity.
The subdivisions, businesses, educational facilities, non-profit organizations, elected officials, government entities and individuals that compose the Chamber have invested in the future of the North Channel area and continue to work to ensure that the prosperity enjoyed in
this community continues.
The Chamber is an organization committed to show-casing the North Channel area as a great place to live and work. Membership holds the key to our success. Members of the Chamber have shown that they care about the community where they live and work. Cham-ber representatives are people who believe that collec-tively they can accomplish more than what one could do
individually.
The Chamber is not a government agency and does
not receive tax dollars to cover the cost of operations. The Chamber is a non-profit business promotion organi-
zation that operates on membership dues and dollars generated from business-related programs and events.
The Chamber’s officers and Board of Directors annu-
ally adopt a plan of work that is administered by Cham-ber staff and volunteers. One goal of the Chamber is to show those who are not currently Chamber members the importance of the Chamber as a vehicle for making a positive impact on the community.

EDUCATION The area is fortunate to be served by a number of academically sound public school systems, as well as
private/parochial schools.
Channelview Independent School District (CISD) The Channelview Independent School District
is a rapidly growing school district with 9,500 students. The mission of CISD is to provide an educational program which will develop and enhance our students' intellec-tual, social, emotional and physical growth in order to encourage them to become creative, responsible, patriotic contributing members of society. Inherent within this mission is the belief that all students can learn, and that school can make a difference in the lives of its students. Channelview ISD is a 6A school district located in an unincorporated area situated on the Houston Ship Channel approximately 15 miles east of downtown Houston. The district has twelve campuses, an administration building, fairgrounds, maintenance headquarters and a transportation facility. There is a Pre-K center, sev-en elementary schools, two junior high schools, one ninth grade center, one high school, an alternative high school. Special programs are available to all students through accelerated programs, special education, bilingual education, English as a Second Language, vocational education, gifted and talented education, and advanced placement and honors programs. Channelview ISD has a rich history of being “actively engaged in the future of our community” with the school district being established in 1937. At that time the district employed eight teachers. Today, the dis-trict employs the finest employees found anywhere in the state of Texas. These employees are committed to making certain that each child in Channelview re-ceives the best education possible.
Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) encompasses 33 square miles along the ship
channel in east Harris County. The district has a current enrollment of more than 22,000 students on 26 campus-es and employs approximately 3,200 people. Through the commitment of dedicated staff and supportive parents, GPISD ensures all students receive a rich and inspiring education. The District provides many learning opportuni-ties to foster curiosity, creativity and participation in the world.
Excellence in All, For All, By All is the focus of GPISD. The District is committed to preparing students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners. The district partners with various business, education and government entities to provide col-lege and career readiness opportunities for stu-dents. For example, through a partnership with San Jacinto College, the MECA (Modified Early College Academy) program allows students to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate degree. Partnerships with Harris County have brought the Almatha C. Taylor Clinic and the South Side Clinic to local communities. Furthermore, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships and innovative teaching grants since its inception in 1998.
Innovation, planning and teamwork are key components of GPISD’s success. While there are many accolades that bear witness to the success of the district, the Financial Allocation Study for Texas has continually awarded the district top scores, stat-ing GPISD has a very low spending index relative to the quality of education students receive. Sheldon Independent School District (SISD), Sheldon ISD is one of the fastest growing school
districts in the Houston area. The district currently serves a diverse student population of more than 10,280 on 12 campuses in northeast Harris Coun-ty. Sheldon ISD is committed to providing an environ-ment that is safe, individualized, and engaging. It is our mission to provide a personalized learning experience to ensure all students graduate college and career ready. The district offers an Early College High School program where students can obtain a high school degree and an associate’s degree in four year, as well as advanced placement, dual credit classes, and exemplary fine arts and academic programs. This is the second full school year of implementing a Compass Schools program at each of our six elementary schools. This program, designed with our mission in mind, connects the career ready opportunities offered at the high school to the ele-mentary students with classes geared toward per-forming arts, science, technology, visual arts and more. Houston Community College (HCC) Northeast, established in 1990, is one of six colleges in
the Houston Community College System. Located in Houston’s industrial nucleus, HCC Northeast focuses on preparing students for high-demand technical and vocational occupations. Career programs and services are of-fered at instructional centers across northeast Houston that include Northline Campus, North Forest Campus, Pinemont Center, Automotive Technology Training Center, and the Northeast Campus. The Northeast Campus at 555 Community College Drive in east Houston is comprised of five high-tech educational facilities that allow stu-dents to obtain hands-on career training with state of-the- art equipment and instruments. Campus facilities in-clude the Codwell Hall, Learning Hub, Roland Smith Truck Driving Academy, Public Safety Center of Excellence and Global Energy Center of Excellence. Surrounded by manufacturing, chemical, petroleum, engineering and energy businesses, the HCC Global Energy Center of Excellence is a direct conduit for industries looking to sup-plement its workforce with trained workers with hands-on experience in the energy industry. HCC Northeast also provides dual credit and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education opportunities for high school students through a partnership with Houston ISD. Additionally, HCC Northeast is one of the largest voca-tional contributors to the city’s emergency response industry through its exemplary programs offered at the Public Safety Center of Excellence. San Jacinto College has been serving the citizens of East Harris County for more than 50 years. The
North Campus, one of the College’s four campuses, is a pillar for higher education and workforce training in the region. The College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and offers 186 degrees and certificates, with 46 technical programs and a university transfer division. In addition, San Jacinto College offers a robust dual credit and early college high school program, allowing high school students the opportunity to earn college credit while in high school, and even earn an associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously through the Modified Early College Academy.
