The letter in the plan will be sufficient.

From: Greene, Russell [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, June 13, 2016 11:00 AMTo: Bone, Tina G Subject: FW: backup plan Ms. Bone, While I realize you are extremely busy with submitted plans, I wanted to follow up and confirm you received the information below in response to your questions. I also need to ask if I need to submit our request for an extension separately or if the letter I included in our plan submittal will do.

From: Greene, Russell Sent: Monday, June 06, 2016 10:09 AMTo: 'Bone, Tina G' Subject: RE: backup plan Ms, Bone Alexander County maintains 2 full time 911 answering positions, staffed 24X7 with another 911 position available for peak time staffing and to be staffed during special Emergency Management exercises. The 911 Director has access to 911 related systems from their office for purpose of management and monitoring County 911 operations. Finally, a training CAD only laptop is available to assist in training new employees. The County intents to utilize virtual desktops running in Citrix XenDesktop to operate the CAD workstations in the 911 Backup facility. We propose to use existing Internet bandwidth at both Alexander County and Iredell County to allow Alexander 911 staff to access CAD, mapping and medical priority dispatch systems. We estimate that each virtual desktop instance running will be less than 100 Kbps per session. Since this activities use minimal bandwidth and only during the operation of the backup 911 facility, we are not requesting any 911 funds for connections between the primary and backup 911 centers at this time. Alexander County proposes to utilize two Sentinel Command Post laptops for the 911 backup answering points. Since these will be connecting to Iredell County’s existing 911 switch within the center itself, this will be run across the internal data network and will not require external bandwidth. The Iredell 911 Center currently utilizes 1 Gbps network speeds.

Your plan appears to be a cost effective solution and it addresses the transition from primary to backup. I do have a couple of questions: How many consoles are manned in the primary? You will need the same amount manned at the backup that you have at the primary. I think you have 2, but your plan states you have 4 and possibly 5 workable positions. How much bandwidth will you use to replicate CAD and phone data? I didn’t see any financial information on that connection. Will you be paying for that out of County funds?    Tina Bone911 Network Specialist, North Carolina 911 BoardNC Department of Information Technology [email protected] nc911.nc.gov
