Following our visit to her shrine and museum we then arrive at the National Shrine of the North American Martyrs located in nearby Auriesville, NY. We arrive mid-morning at this National Shrine dedicated to eight devout Jesuit Fathers; St. Rene’ Goupil, St. Isaac Jogues, St. John de Lalande, St. Anthony Daniel, St. John de Bre- beuf, St. Gabriel Lalemant, St. Charles Garnier, and St. Noel Chabanel. All were martyred bringing the Catholic faith to the native inhabitants of the area of Quebec province and northern NY. We will visit “e Ravine” where St. Rene Goupil was martyred. e Ravine is considered a “live” Reliquary because his body was sunk to hide his remains, which were incomplete when they were retrieved months later. We will celebrate Mass in the largest Catholic coliseum in the US, seating over 6000 and room for another 3000 standing. e site also boasts 5 chapels, 2 museums, a Jesuit cemetery and Stations of the Cross. After our visit we depart for Syracuse with a stop shortly after departing to enjoy lunch. We will then visit “e Ravine” where St. Rene Goupil was martyred. e Ravine is considered a “live” Reliquary because his body was sunk to hide his remains, which were incomplete when they were retrieved months later. We will celebrate Mass in the largest Catholic coliseum in the US, seating over 6000 and room for another 3000 standing. e site also boasts 5 chapels, 2 museums, a Jesuit cemetery and Stations of the Cross. After our visit we depart for Syracuse with a stop shortly after departing to enjoy lunch. After leaving the Shrine we finish our day with a brief visit to Onehda Winery, home of the sacramental wine used in many of the area parishes, as well as St. Patrick’s Parish. A quick visit to the Abbey at Genesse shortly afterwards and then a relaxing Dinner. Overnight Syracuse, NY Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel we depart for e Basilica of Our Lady of Victory and the Venerable Monsignor Nelson Baker Museum in Buffalo NY. ough designated a “minor” basilica, the church is nothing short of magnificent, with its artwork, statuary and stained glass. It rivals many of the prominent Cathedrals and Basilicas in Europe! After our tour we will celebrate Mass together. After our time at the Basilica we break for lunch. Afterwards we journey to Niagara Falls where we cross US Customs into Canada (Ontario) and check into our hotel to freshen up before an early dinner in anticipation of our evening “Maid of the Mist” boat excursion. is exciting voyage gives all who visit the best views of Niagara Falls and an opportunity to view the falls from it’s base by the evening light. Enjoy the specially placed lighting near and behind the falls, which give them a spectacular majesty not seen during the day. Overnight Niagara, Ontario Day 3: After breakfast at our hotel, we are off to visit the North American Martyrs Shrine of Canada, located in Midland Ontario. Similar to the Shrine we started our pilgrimage with, this one honors the Jesuit fathers as well, with a slightly different perspective. Following lunch we will also visit the Mission Museum located nearby and enjoy Mass later that after- noon at the site of one of the original Native villages. Following our visit there we head east on our way to our hotel in Bellville, Ontario. On our way we will stop enjoy a farewell dinner and check into our hotel upon arrival in Belleville. Overnight Belleville, Ontario Day 4: Following breakfast we depart for the St. Francis Xavier Mission and the tomb of St. Kateri Tekawitha, as well as Old Fort St. Louis in La Praraie Quebec, near Montreal. Just before arriving we will stop for a light lunch. ere we will celebrate Mass following our visit to the Mission and Old Fort. Afterwards, with fond memories and a newfound reverence for those who were martyred bringing our Catholic faith to the New World, we depart for home. In the footsteps of the SAMPLE
