Day 1 Depart Canada for London.

Day 2 Arrival to London. On your way into the town you will have a sightseeing tour. Get a first impression of this fantastic city – see Buckingham Palace, the houses of Parliament and Big Ben or the famous bridges such as Tower Bridge and the new Millennium Bridge. Experience the contrast between bustling Soho, the City-London’s and in fact Europe’s financial centre and Kensington, where Royalty and film stars do their shopping.

In the evening do what is typical for Britain… try out the lagers, the ales and the stouts, while enjoying a hearty British dinner in a Pub near your hotel. (D)

Day 3 London. Today you will see the World-Heritage-listed Tower of London, home to the magnificent Crown Jewels, and the nearby Tower Bridge, one of London’s most iconic sights.

After this you will have lunch at St Katharine’s Dock. From there you will make a boats trip from the Tower of London to Greenwich, another World Heritage Site and home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian Line. The famous landmarks include Cutty Sark, the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, and Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Royal Naval College. The little market stores in the historic Greenwich Market are worth a visit as well. (B)

Day 4 London. In the morning you will visit the Shard, for an unprecedented view of London. At nearly twice the height of any other viewing platform in London and the tallest building in Western Europe, The View from The Shard is the only place to see all of London at once. (B)

Day 5 London to Ashford. Today you will leave London and drive through Kent – the so-called Garden of England.

The double-moated 13th century Hever Castle, Edenbridge, one-time home of Anne Boleyn, is complicated by the most romantic gardens. Hard to believe, but this was marshland before the gardens were laid out between 1904 and 1908! The Italian Garden is a magnificent highlight, created to display then-owner William Waldorf Astor’s collection of Italian sculptures. Breathe in the heady fragrances of more than 4,000 flowers in the Rose Garden – the Hever Rose, producing masses of velvety deep-red blooms, flowers May - October. Fountain on Sixteen Acre Island sparkle and soothe spirits, and there’s wonderful woodland walking. Spend the day here before you continue driving to your hotel in Ashford, where you will have your last dinner in the UK. Overnight in Ashford. (B)

Day 6 Ashford to Dunkirk. This morning way goodbye to the White Cliffs of dover as our ferry takes us to Calais, France. After lunch we will tour Dunkirk and see the beaches. The recent film Dunkirk has again brought this beach to the forefront.

Christopher Nolan’s movie Dunkirk, recounts a remarkable episode from the Second World War, the “miracle” that allowed for the evacuation of almost 340,000 trapped and beleaguered Allied troops from the French port city’s beaches as the German army advanced.

Between May 26 and June 4, 1940, a massive evacuation effort called Operation Dynamo sent a flotilla of 222 ships, including four Royal Canadian Navy destroyers, and as many as 800 civilian craft — among them fishing boats and pleasure craft — to bring Allies troops back across the English Channel to safety.

Among the best-known Canadian heroes during the evacuation was Vancouverite Robert Timbrell, then a 20-year-old sub-lieutenant stationed at Whale Island, Portsmouth, who was given command of the Llanthony, an expensive but barely seaworthy yacht owned by Lord Astor of Hever Castle.

We will depart Dunkirk and make our way to Dieppe for the night. (B)

Day 7 Dunkirk to Paris. This morning we will visit the locations for the Dieppe Raid which occurred on August 19th, 1942. In nine hours, 907 Canadian soldiers were killed, 2,460 were wounded, and 1,946 were taken prisoner. Today, the town of Dieppe is filled with maple leaf flags and Canadian symbols, and its seafront promenade holds a park and several memorials to the regiments that came ashore in 1942. The Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery also holds the graves of 944 Allied servicemen and women, including 707 Canadians.

Day 8 Les Andelys. Uncover the history of Château Gaillard, the former stronghold of Richard the Lionheart, situated on the chalk cliffs high above the Seine, on a tour. Or, if you prefer a more active adventure, you can hike there from the banks of the Seine, admiring the scenic views along the way. For those who wish to explore the area on two wheels, join a guided bike tour through the charming town of Les Andelys. Day 10 Caudebec-En-Caux Normandy Beach. Tour the Gold and Juno beaches in the British and Canadian sectors, where you will visit Ranville Cemetery, Pegasus Bridge, the Canadian cemetery at Beny-sur-Mer, the WWII museum in Courseulle and finally Arromanches. (B,L,D)

Day 11 Rouen. Spend the morning enjoying medieval Rouen with a choice of three excursions. Join a walking tour past the imposing Notre Dame Cathedral, painted numerous times by Monet, and see the square where Joan of Arc was martyred, as well as the Medieval Quarter and Great Clock. For those who wish to be more active, you can join a biking or hiking tour around the city. Later in the day, you can explore the Jewish area of Rouen; or go on the “Tastes of Normandy” tour, where you’ll be treated to the delicious flavors of the region, including chocolate, cheese and cider. Day 12 Vernon. Sail along picturesque Seine to Vernon, where you will have a choice of three exciting excursions. Art lovers who choose to visit Claude Monet’s gardens in Giverny will immediately recognize images immortalized in Monet’s most beloved paintings—such as water lilies, Japanese bridges and graceful willow trees. Wander around his famous gardens and home where he lived for more than four decades. You also have the choice to explore the 18th-century Château de Bizy, inspired by the opulence of Versailles. Or for those who wish a more active adventure, you can go on a guided bike tour, taking in the enchanting beauty of the region. (B,L,D)

Day 13 Conflans – Paris. Visit Château Malmaison, the former home of Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte. You’ll learn what life was like for the Bonapartes and how Josephine endeavored to transform the large estate into “the most beautiful and curious garden in Europe.” Alternatively, travel to Auberge Ravoux in the heart of Auvers-sur-Oise, the last home of artist Vincent van Gogh. His spirit still lingers in his former attic rooms at the Ravoux Inn. The mere 70 days Van Gogh spent in Auvers-sur-Oise were astonishingly prolific as he painted more than 70 works here before his death. Later in the day, set sail for Paris. (B,L,D)

Day 14 Paris. Sadly we must disembark the lovely AmaLyra but we still have two more nights in Paris! We have a city tour lined up to give you a feel of this amazing city. After we check in the day is yours to explore. (B)

Day 15 Paris. The whole day is free to set off and explore this diverse city. Tonight join us for our President’s Collection Farewell Dinner. (B,D)

Day 16 Paris to Home. Well, unfortunately even good things must come to an end. Board your coach for transfer to the airport and your flights home. (B)
