Woodpecker 101 Saturday, March 16th,10am-11am
How many species of woodpeckers can be found
in Beall Woods? Do all woodpeckers have similar
feeding and nesting behaviors? Find out the
answers to these questions and learn how to
identify the species common to our area. Don’t
forget your binoculars! Participants can choose to
go on a short hike after the presentation.
Woodland Wildflower Hikes
Saturdays, April 6th, 13th, 27th,10am-noon
Discover past uses of our native flora and interest-
ing characteristics about each wildflower species
during a 1.5 mile hike along the trails of the Nature
Preserve. Feel free to bring along your camera to
capture the intricate design and delicate nature of
these spring beauties.
Test Your Nature Knowledge! Saturday, April 13th and May 18th
Take A Wild Guess - 1pm This is a picture puzzler. Can you guess the subject of a photograph by only seeing a small portion of the picture?
Nature Trivia BINGO - 2pm
Test your knowledge about Illinois’ state parks, the flora and fauna around us, movies filmed in Illinois, and much more!

Norm Cline Photography Saturday, May 4th, 2pm - 3pm
Norm has traveled near and far to capture amaz-
ing images of wildlife, waterfalls, flowers, and
fungi. You never know where he may end up
looking for new species or beautiful landscapes.
Join Norm as he shares his favorite photos and
hear stories about his encounters during a power-
point presentation in the Visitor Center.
Fishing With My Dad
Saturday, June 15th
Registration 8:30am-9am
Fishing 9-10:30am
Fishing With My Dad is sponsored by the Wabash
County Health Department (All Our Kids Network)
and is for children ages 5 and under. Children must
be accompanied by an adult. Please remember to
bring your fishing gear and register upon arrival at
the shelter by the boat dock. Everyone should return
to the shelter by 10:45am for prizes.

three of the Junior Naturalist programs by June

All About Birds Saturday, May 11th, 9am-11am
Bring your creativity to the park and design your
own bird poster. Discover obstacles that birds
encounter during migration while playing a
game. Go on a short hike to listen for different
bird songs and keep a checklist of the number of
species that we identify. This program is for bird
lovers ages 7 and above. Please register by May
4th if you plan to attend.
Spring is Here! Let’s Hike! Saturday, March 23rd,10am-11am
Take in the fresh air and beautiful scenery while
hiking through the park’s Nature Preserve. We will
be stopping occasionally to look for the emergence
of spring ephemerals and signs of wildlife activity.
Feel free to bring your binoculars and camera.
Wander the White Oak Trail
Saturday, June 15th, 1pm-2:30pm
Join us on a 1.5 mile guided hike to observe the seasonal change as summer quickly approaches. Admire a sycamore over 18ft in circumference, beautiful bur oaks, the drumming of pileated woodpeckers, and the mighty Wabash River.

Youth Fishing Derby Saturday, June 22nd
Registration 8-8:30am, Fishing 8:30-10:30am
Calling all anglers ages 6 to 16! Find your favor-
ite fishing pole and lucky bait. You are invited to
Beall Woods State Park’s annual youth fishing
derby, sponsored by The Hanging Rock Bass
Club. Please register upon arrival between 8am-
8:30am. Participants will have two hours to fish.
Prizes will be presented at approximately
10:45am. This event is free of charge and partici-
pants must be accompanied by an adult.
Gardening for Pollinators
Saturday, July 13th, 9am-10am
With the array of brilliant colors added to the green
landscape, flowers bring forth a state of peaceful-
ness and happiness to their observers. Not only is
their aesthetic value of importance, but many or-
ganisms rely on flowers for survival. Find out how
to attract wildlife to your yard by planting beautiful
native prairie plants. Participants should meet at
the north shelter at 9am. We will be taking a short
hike around the pollination garden and the prairie
restoration site. Feel free to bring your camera!
Leaf Litter Critters Fridays, July 12th and 19th, 9 - 11am
This is a two part program. On Friday the 12th,
we will be in search of leaf litter critters. Partici-
pants will be collecting leaf litter samples and
learning how to use a Berlese funnel. On the
19th, dissecting scopes will reveal how many
different types of organisms were buried under
the leaves. Participants will record species diver-
sity and abundance for each collection site.
Please register by July 6th if you plan to attend.

Trail Camera Contest
-Photographs must be from trail cameras and taken during 2017-2019
-No pictures of people or vehicles, wildlife only
-Submissions need to be in original format, no editing
or cropping
-A limit of 2 (4x6) photos per person can be entered
into each of the following categories:
#1. Whitetails #2. Turkeys #3. Predators #4. Unusual
-By submitting images, owners allow IDNR park staff
permission to post their photos during the Sports-
man’s event on Sept. 14th, 2019
-Winning photographs will be chosen by visitors
during the event
-No names or locations will be associated with photo-
graphs
-Deadline for submitting photos is June 1st, 2019
-Bring photos to the park’s Visitor Center on Satur-
days or mail them to Beall Woods State Park, 9285
