Norðurljós 2nd floor at Harpa
Norðurljós
Norðurljós is located on the second floor at Harpa.
Norðurljós is an extremely versatile hall suitable for most
types of concerts and artistic events, and its acoustics
are adjustable. It is equipped with specially designed
lighting in the walls which can be set to various colours.
The stage is moveable and changeable in size. The basic
rent is based on the stage being 8 m x 5 m x 80 cm. Two
soundproofed portals connect Norðurljós and Silfurbeg so
that the halls can easily be used together for larger events.
Norðurljós, moreover, offers first-class sound, projector
and lighting equipment.

Lease
Base price: ISK 320.500 incl. VAT.
• The fee for opening the second floor of the hall is
27.000 kr. incl. VAT.
• A same-day repeat event in Norðurljós
carries a 50% surcharge.
• The hall can be leased for event rehearsals prior to
the event at a 50% discount depending on booking
status.
• The cost of work and equipment hire is added
to the hall lease.
• A confirmation fee equivalent to 20% of the hall rent
must be paid in advance to secure a booking.

A day in Norðurljós
A whole-day lease is based on the use of the hall between 11:00 and 23:00.
An extra fee is charged for use outside this timeframe.
A typical concert day for an amplified concert could be as follows:
11:00 Setting up sound, projector and lighting equipment.
12:00 Lunch for crew
13:00 Band arrives. Cables laid and microphones tested.
15:00 Sound-check with band.
18:00 Meal break.
19:30 Hall opens.
20:00 Concert.
23:00 Concert ends.

• Up to 606 seats, whereof 56 on the balconies• Accommodates up to 800 standing
The number of seats in Norðurljós is variable depending on
the size of the stage and on whether a light desk and sound
mixer is installed in the hall.
All seats can be removed in case the concert is standing room only. Floor area is 540 m2

Sound system
Recording facilities and screening equipment
Norðurljós has facilities for film and sound recordings.
If the event-holder is interested in recording an event,
he can negotiate such recording and/or purchase such
services.
The sound system included in the hall rent is directed
outward to the hall (public announcement system) and
consists of:
• 4× Meyer CQ1 speakers
• 4× Meyer 600HP speakers
• 2× Meyer UPA junior speakers
The sound system distributes amplified sound equally
around the hall. A sound mixer must be hired in order to
use the speaker system. Other equipment may be hired
in accordance with Harpa’s price list.
Project managers will provide quotes for additional
sound equipment as requested.
Outsourced equipment, other than musical instruments
and instrument amplifiers, is not permitted except as
specifically negotiated. The building’s employees are
always responsible for setting up technical equipment.
A separate fee is collected for such work (for further
information, see Employees).

There are numerous lighting options available in the
building, including spotlights, moving lights and hazers.
Once a needs analysis has been carried out and the
technical information is available, project managers will
provide quotes for additional lighting equipment as
requested. We also offer lighting design if requested, for
a fee.
Outsourced equipment is not permitted except as
specifically negotiated.

Backstage facilities
Grænalón is the backstage facility for the halls on the 2nd
floor and has direct access to Eldborg, Norðurljós and
Silfurberg. The dressing rooms vary in size, from two-
person rooms up to 10-person rooms.
No separate fee is charged for the use of dressing rooms.
Their availability, however, is governed
by the building’s booking status, and they must be booked
specifically from the project manager.
Wireless network access can be provided in most areas
within Harpa.
Catering
Bought in catering is not allowed, although refreshments
for groups can be ordered specifically, through the
mediation of the project manager..
Security
Harpa uses conventional security measures. If
requested, additional security may be negotiated. If
an artist brings his own security guards, the project
manager will need a list of their names. Such security
guards will receive a guest pass on arrival in the
building.
Ticket sales
The lessee is under obligation to use Harpa’s ticket sales
system. Tickets are sold on www.harpa.is, tix.is and at
Harpa’s ticket sales desk in tel. No. 528 5050. The ticket
sales desk is open 09:00–18:00 on all working days and
10:00–18:00 on weekends, or until such time as the event
begins, as appropriate.
Ticket sales arrangements must be decided in
consultation with Harpa. The date of ticket sales may
not be advertised except in consultation with Harpa. The
ticket sales commission is 7% + VAT.
A printing fee is collected for complimentary tickets. The
maximum number of complimentary tickets is 10% of the
total number of tickets.
Before ticket sales for an event are opened, the venue must have received the following information for its website:
• Short text (approx. 120 words) in Icelandic and English.
• Pictures in four sizes:
— Picturess for tix.is: 1600 × 500 pixels and 800 x
600 pixels (width × height)
— Poster: 500 × 707 pixels (width × height)
— Screen system: 1280 × 720 pixels (width × height)
— Information screen: 331 × 157 pixels (width × height)
Employees and work
Harpa’s Account and Project Managers:Are the contact persons between event-holders and
Harpa. Account managers prepare agreements and
launches the event for sale. As soon as possible, the
account manager connects the event-holder to a project
manager who performs a needs analysis and takes over
the management of the event through to the end.
Stage Manager: A stage manager on the day of the concert is included in
the rent of Norðurljós.
Service Representatives:Service representatives for events are included in the
rent for Norðurljós.
Technicians:Payment must be made for the work of technicians
for the event and for the setting up and taking down of
equipment. The scope of the event will be the deciding
factor as regards the number of hours worked.
Event-holders may bring their own technicians; stage
hands; and sound, projector and lighting technicians,
subject to the approval of Harpa. For each such person,
the attendance of a Harpa technician for supervision
must be paid.

Providing that space is available, advertisments in screen
systems, on billboards at Sæbraut and in lightboxes at the
ticket sales desk or main entrance may be purchased to
advertise an event. In addition, screens next to halls may be
used for advertisements on the day of the event. Events in
Harpa may not be advertised before an agreement thereto
has been reached.
