ABOUT THECONFERENCE
Nordic Ruby is a two day, single
track Ruby conference held in
Gothenburg, Sweden. This yearthe conference featured talented
Nordic speakers as well as well
known names from the USA and
Australia. With a welcome party,
11 sessions, lightning talks and a
big dinner party, there were lots of
opportunities to learn new things
and meet new people.
Conference Menu
Saturday: Baked cod llet with
asparagus and wild garlic, dill
potatoes and thyme butter
Sunday: Coq au vin
Parties
The Welcoming party was held
at Elabs ofce, located in the citycentre, right by the Gothenburg
Opera House and the water.
People hung out with old and new
friends, including the speakers.
Plenty of drinks and snacks were
served. The most popular areas
were the balconies and at the
ping pong table.
On Saturday the party was held
at an amazing lounge place called
SoHo. We started the evening
with at glass of Cava. Then there
was fantastic food from their
“World Food Buffee” with ten dif-
ferent dishes, cheese, dessert and
coffee. Beer, wine and cider wasincluded. A great evening with a
lot of socialising both indoors and
outdoors.

“The structure of the conferencehas worked out brilliantly with the
short talks and loads of time to
chat to people afterwards. I’ve
never been to a conference where
there’s been that much lively con-
versations in between talks”
Keavy McMinnspeaker

ner of social interaction have been
really remarkable.”

fun, really great people to talk to,
and I’m just having an amazing
time and the weather is absolutely
gorgeous, so you couldn’t ask for
much more.”

ABOUT THEORGANIZERS
Elabs is an agile web development shop in Gothen-
burg, Sweden. We help clients work and communi-
cate more efciently by creating great software thatsupports their business. And we have a lot of fun
doing it.
A MESSAGE FROM THE OR-GANIZERS
We think Nordic Ruby went great,
it turned out even better than
we had hoped for. The lineup of
speakers were great. We had a re-
ally hard time choosing the talks,
as we received 58 proposals for 7
slots!
CJ had a vision of a conferenceheld in Gothenburg. As he had
attended many conferences in the
USA, he thought that this should
be brought to the heart of Scandi-
navia. We are both very satised
with the turnout and are looking
forward to be back next year!
Thanks to the speakers, attend-
ees and sponsors, this has been
fun! —CJ and Lilly

“It’s pretty awesome, it’s like thebest conference I’ve ever been
to. I really, really like that it’s a
two day conference, single track
and there are only 11 speakers so
you get huge breaks between the
talks and you can socialize with
the people around you.”

“Because we only have one talk
every hour, and then we have
a break, there’s plenty of timeto reect and go and chat with
the people who did the talk, and
that’s pretty cool, as supposed to,
you know, talk, talk, talk, talk and
then it’s just a blur.”

“It’s a great conference, and I
highly recommend it to anybody
who’s looking for a great spot, a
beautiful city to visit and learn a
little bit about ruby.”
“The format is the best part, the
thing I really enjoyed the most
was the fact that after every single
talk we had 30 minutes to go into
the hallway and discuss with our
peers what we just learned, so I
think the best part so far has beenthe hallway conference.”

“I like that it’s so inspirational
here.”
“I really liked the lightning talks
too, they were very unexpected in
their contents, but still in a short
amount of time showed you some-
thing fantastic.”

“I think my favorite part is CJ
walking around ringing the bell to
gather everyone in the beginningof the session.”
Daniëlvan de Burgt

“It’s my rst Ruby conference and
so far the experience has been
great, it’s a nice small conference. There’s plenty of time for con-
necting with the other developers,
and there’s also plenty of time to
talk to the speakers and reect on
what they’ve been talking about.
So my rst impression is if all
Ruby conferences are like this I
need to go to more Ruby confer-
ences.”
Why Nordic Ruby?
“Nordic Ruby was the rst confer-
ence that actually came up in a
short time span, but it looked like
a good way to get back into Ruby
programming and talk to develop-
ers and actually get up to speedwith the latest Ruby develop-
ments, and it actually worked out
really well!”
