The HistoryThe first Cluster Meet Up in Copenhagen in 2018 gathered more than 50 Nordic clusters resulting in numerous partnerships and projects benefitting Nordic businesses.

OrganisersThe Nordic Cluster Meet Up is organised by Nordic Innovation in collaboration with Cluster Excellence Denmark and Region Skåne, and in close coordination with Enterprise Europe Network and the key Nordic agencies: Vinnova, Innovation Norway, Innovation Centre Iceland, Business Finland and the Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants.

Christian Rangen, Partner // Co-Founder, ENGAGE // INNOVATE Christian is an author and consultant with extensive experience with innovation clusters and innovation superclusters. Over the past years he has been involved in cluster and ecosystem projects in Malaysia, Norway, Switzerland, Thailand, across Europe, Latin America and North America. Christian has recently published the book “Building Innovation Superclusters”.

Niina Aagaard, Chief Operating Officer, Nordic InnovationNiina is a strategist who partners with investors, integrators, innovators and public bodies to find opportunities for growth in new and existing markets. With vast experience in investment and trade promotion and in developing innovation policies, she knows what drives business opportunities and risk. At the Meet Up, Niina will present Nordic Innovation.

Merete D. Nielsen, Director, Cluster Excellence Denmark Merete is director at Cluster Excellence Denmark supporting clusters on competence development, professionalisation and internationalisation. Merete is President for the global cluster network TCI Network. She will be moderating the Meet Up and presenting Nordic cluster potentials.

Sofie Westerdahl, Project Manager, Mobile HeightSofie is Mobile Heigth’s project manager on the Nordic cluster collaboration project The Connected Ship. The Swedish gold label cluster Mobile Heights was founded in 2009 by Sony Mobile, Ericsson, Telia Company, the Regional Council of Skåne and the universities of Lund and Malmö.

Karen Lindegaard, Senior Consultant, Welfare TechKaren has been with at the gold label cluster Welfare Tech since 2012. She is in charge of international cooperation, cluster development, business development and is responsible for the development of Welfare Tech’s successful Nordic collaborations.

Anders Lundström (KD), Member of the Skåne Regional Council and Deputy Member of the Regional Executive CommitteeAnders is elected representative with long experience of several different policy areas within the Municipality of Helsingborg and at regional level, including the Environmental Committee Chair 20115-2018 (Sweden’s best environmental Municipality 2017, 2018 and 2019), Social Committee Chairman 2011-2014 and Culture Committee Chairman 2007-2010.

Nordic Innovation’s Cluster Opportunities

Nordic Innovation has open calls targeting clusters. All of the calls are within and across Nordic Innovation’s three thematic areas of work for the period 2018-2021:

Nordic Smart Mobility and ConnectivityThe program is our contribution to developing a more sustainable, connected, integrated and seamless transport system in the Nordic region – reducing carbon footprints, increasing the quality of life for all Nordic citizens and creating opportunities for Nordic businesses.

Open Call: Nordic Innovation Mobility Mission: Sea Meets Land. Our effort to support Nordic initiatives seeking to develop solutions to decarbonize Nordic ports, transport of people and goods – on and between sea and land. Budget: NOK 8 million. Deadline: 14 January 2020.

Call for Proposals: Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity: The purpose of this call is to foster the establishment of Nordic innovation projects, new Nordic partnerships, value chains and/or business models in the field of Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity. Budget: NOK 16 million.

Health, Demography and Quality of LifeWith the Health, Demography and Quality of Life program, we connect people, data and innovation for a better life – and help make the Nordics the most sustainable and integrated health region in the world, providing the best possible personalised health care for all its citizens.

Nordic Sustainable Business TransformationWith Nordic Sustainable Business Transformation, Nordic Innovation aims to contribute to sustainable growth and competitiveness in Nordic businesses. In order to achieve this vision, the Nordic region should become a global innovation hub for circular- and bio economy solutions to attract talent, investments and increase export for Nordic businesses.

European Cluster Opportunities

Cluster facilitated projects for new industrial value chainsDeadline: 02 April 2020 17:00:00 Brussels time. 2nd stage Deadline: 08 September 2020 17:00:00 Brussels time.

The INNOSUP-01-2018-2020 call for proposals for cluster facilitated projects for new industrial value chains has an allocated budget of 25.150.000 EUR and aims at developing new cross-sectoral industrial value chains across the EU, by building upon the innovation potential of SMEs. The action promotes cross-border and cross-sectoral collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurship across different regions and value chains, and seeks proposals that focus on integrating and supporting groups of SMEs in collaboration with other innovation actors when addressing specific problems and challenges.

Clusters Go International - expected to open in 2020The main objective of this action is to intensify cluster and business network collaboration across borders and also across sectorial boundaries and to support the establishment of European Strategic Cluster Partnerships to lead international cluster cooperation in fields of strategic interest towards third countries beyond Europe.

Cluster Internationalisation Programme for SMEs in the Defence & Security sector expected to open Q1 2020The main objective of the action is to support European defence and security-related clusters and business network organisations to intensify collaboration across borders with other non-defence industrial clusters and to develop and implement joint strategies in areas of dual use technologies, products and services towards non-EU countries.

European Cluster Excellence Programme with ClusterXchange scheme connecting ecosystems and cities – expected to open in late 2020This action aims to strengthen cluster management excellence and to facilitate exchanges and strategic partnering between clusters and specialised eco-systems and cities across Europe through the ClusterXchange mobility scheme.

This overview is developed in collaboration with North Denmark EU Office and Enterprise Europe Network.
