Multi-faith Center

01Divie Creation and Parametric Manifestation

Religious traditions promote a deeper way in the ways of the world through belief and participation involving the concept of faith. What is considered holy is also percieved as the 'whole'; the connection of humans with their God(s). Different religious beliefs and practices share a common goal of establishing one's own spiritual identity.

Sacred buildings is essentially about ideas. It contains and illustrates ideas, whether visiually or symbolically, sets itself apart from the secular environment. The function of the sacred space is to materialize an abstract spiritual principle through the interplay of form and content.

This project is not addressed for one, but for others; it's an agent of reconcilation and liberation, concerned with humanization, and seek to meet the needs of men in the totality of their physical and spiritual existance.

A deconstructivist approach in terms of deconstructing the prosaic interpretation of religious architecture and spiritual experiences as being restrictive in association

with one traditional form

The design concept is basically having the building act as an aenclosure or a fort and not merely a container of spaces. The building envlopes the site in relation to the surrounding building heights and road circulation. Hence, the site is perceived as a threshold connecting primary and secondary roads, and is located adjacent to Horsh Beirut.

Fair faced concrete was used to enhance the rigidity of the site and program. Slits were made to allow the minimum sunlight and ventilation into the space

The program is devided in heirarchal order both vertically and horizontally. Th GF consists of the public programs such as infirmary, reception, gym, cafeteria etc... and the upper floors consist of the prison cells, educational spacs, counseling rooms, etc...

04A Breaking Line

My design concept intends to merge with its surroudning. Instead of having two heterogeneous structures, a combination of both, in addition to landscape inteference, would enhance my concept. The two bulding were interrupted by a green boulavard that passes through the two buildings, creating a hub from which one can circulare and reach the different part of building from.

The connection between the two building is reflected in the roof structure too. Segmenting the concrete roof and elongating it into the hangar, created openings for sunlight, which enganced the entrance to through the boulavard. Glass panels embraced the musuem enhancing transparecy and connection to the surrounding

Fostering Nature

01A Revival in BachouraHolcim Compition Project

Only 1.8% of Beirut's area is Green public space. 22% is recommended by WHO for a healthy city. Bachoura is one of the last neighbourhoods in the city where nature is left free to grow on the abandoned urban fabric. The project proposes to provide a model throughout the war-torn district by intervening on the existing structures accelerating the consumption of the buildings by nature, providing an alternative solution of public adaptive reuse as paused to the neighbouring gentrification

01Team project with Fes School of Architecture

A Social Reconstruction and Urban Development Project.

The rehabilitation of the northernmost entrance to the city of Fes, the Bab Al-Guissa Gate, an underdeveloped region in the Old Medina.

The assimilation of a service-center as well as a concealed parking space and drop-off zone.

The creation of a tourist friendly atmosphere that also caters to locals.

Integrating the segregated site elements.Extending the cut topography of the mountain onto the site. Providing observation decks of the surrounding landscape. Creating a circulation flow towards the gate.Introducing public programs for locals and tourists alike.

Providing exhibition spaces beneath the canopy, introducing the city’s crafts.Removing the parking, re-integrating it beneath green spaces that define the entrance to the Old Medina.Ease of Access & Circulation towards the city gates.

A Visual Relationship between the various topographies and site elements.Vertical programmatic integration.A conceptual understanding of social and market interactive spaces. An extension of the mountain diffusing into the site’s public milieu.

PLANE DEFORMATION STUDY

A form generating system that explores the deformation of a single plane: creating multiple iterations of a habitable volume.

Three main functions: sitting, standing and lounging are each contained within a box. The dimensions of these boxes are a based on a person’s spatial requirements.

The vertices of each box deform the plane accordingly to cater to each function. For example, the vertices of the box that represents the standing zone, act as repulsor points, forcing the plane to deform upwards and give way for someone to stand under.

" Architecture needs to be throught of less as a set of special material products and rather more as a range of social and professional practices that sometimes, but by no means always lead to buildings. " William, Richard
