Joas Johnson is an eight year old boy living in the Bow Quarter gated community of East London. Joas keeps trying to runaway from his parents because he’s convinced of being the missing son of a woman named June Carter. June Carter has been a British national celebrity since her baby son was kidnapped in hospital eight years ago. The two of them should never have met. But when Joas succeeds in escaping the watch of his parents and eventually ends up knocking on June Carter’s door, little does he know that she is, indeed, waiting for him…

A kidnapping thriller set in contemporary London, Bow Quarter reverses the code of the genre to put in presence two strong and lasting characters : June, a middle aged woman who can’t get over the stealing of her baby son and Joas, a boy who strongly believes that he, somehow, is her missing child. Centered on the boy’s character, the film explores a feeling seldom shown in films - the belief of having been adopted, which a lot of people have experienced in their childhood and grown out of. But what happens if you don’t ? What happens if you set to find the parents you long for ? The answer to that question is a case of dream turning into nightmare - as every fairytale will have it. When Joas comes knocking on June’s door, he perpetuates in total innocence an act of extraordinary violence : he brings the dead back to life and rekindle in June the excruciating hope of having her child back… even if it means never letting him out again.
