Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) returns for a new season as the young queen who wants it all — romance, power, an heir and personal freedom — on Victoria, Season 2, airing in seven episodes created and scripted by bestselling novelist Daisy Goodwin (The Fortune Hunter), premiering Sunday, Jan. 14 at 8 pm/9 Mtn. on MASTERPIECE.
More than 16 million viewers tuned in for Victoria’s premiere season, making it the highest-rated drama on PBS in 20 years—second only to Downton Abbey.
Joining the cast in the new season is legendary actress Dame Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones, The Avengers), who plays the Duchess of Buccleuch, the court’s new Mistress of the Robes — a fount of old-fashioned good sense for the queen, who is now in the throes of motherhood.
Season 2 finds Victoria adapting to motherhood after the birth of her first child, a daughter (to the disappointment of many). Meanwhile, the disaster of the Anglo-Afghan War unfolds abroad and the catastrophic Irish potato famine begins to wreak havoc. In other foreign affairs, a royal state visit to France is in the offing.

From the Board…Happy New Year!
KSPS is not just great television shows from PBS like Poldark, mysteries and the PBS NewsHour. KSPS also produces local documentaries like the recent one on homelessness in Spokane, Hidden in Plain Sight, discussing a national crisis from a local perspective.
I also recently attended a celebration for the completion of the Hifumi En Omoide project. This collaborative effort with KSPS and the Japanese American Society of Spokane included filming the stories of citizens who were interned in camps in the Pacific Northwest during World War II. I encourage you to visit hifumien.org to watch these very powerful stories and learn more about a part of our history that needs to be remembered.

Follow the adventures of Pinkalicious and her brother Peter in PBS Kids’ newest animated series, Pinkalicious & Peterrific. Pinkalicious imagines creative possibilities everywhere she looks. She is an artist at heart — and, like most creative people, she sees the world differently from others. She knows what she likes and is not afraid to express herself…though she sometimes needs help from her brother, Peter, and her neighborhood friends. The program is designed for ages 3-5 and encourages self-expression through music, dance and visual arts. Pinkalicious & Peterrific airs weekdays at 9 am, beginning Feb. 19.

In January, Health Matters, Television for Life focuses on the mental health of children and teens. Mental disorders in children are common, affecting one in four kids in any given year. Our panel will explore the most common disorders, from anxiety and depression to ADHD. Plus, we’ll share the warning signs every parent needs to know and the resources that are available.

Doctors and researchers are more concerned than ever about the threat of heart disease and stroke. The need to do more is urgent as our population ages and the rates of obesity and diabetes remain high. The point being, the busy people — the ones with something always going, with so many things on their plate — are life's doers…the folks others know they can count on to get things done, to keep going strong and finish the job.
There is no place where that adage rings more true than right here at KSPS! There are so many of our volunteers who are involved in their families, their communities, their organizations; yet they still value the KSPS mission so highly that, even if their plates are full, they find the time to give of themselves — especially during our busy Membership Campaigns.
December's campaign was a particularly important one, as that was the one that would set the tone for the new fiscal year and mark the giving end of the calendar year. Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) returns for a new season as the young queen who wants it all — romance, power, an heir and personal freedom — on Victoria, Season 2, airing in seven episodes created and scripted by bestselling novelist Daisy Goodwin (The Fortune Hunter), premiering Sunday, Jan. 14 at 8 pm/9 Mtn. on MASTERPIECE.
More than 16 million viewers tuned in for Victoria’s premiere season, making it the highest-rated drama on PBS in 20 years—second only to Downton Abbey.
Joining the cast in the new season is legendary actress Dame Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones, The Avengers), who plays the Duchess of Buccleuch, the court’s new Mistress of the Robes — a fount of old-fashioned good sense for the queen, who is now in the throes of motherhood.
Season 2 finds Victoria adapting to motherhood after the birth of her first child, a daughter (to the disappointment of many). Meanwhile, the disaster of the Anglo-Afghan War unfolds abroad and the catastrophic Irish potato famine begins to wreak havoc. In other foreign affairs, a royal state visit to France is in the offing.
