Course Description Topics in Geriatrics: Volume 5 offers the course participant an increased depth of knowledge on multiple topics: amputee rehabilitation for patients with diabetes; the integumentary system; health promotion; orthopedic considerations in the lower quarter; and osteoarthritis in the upper quarter. The participant will gain clinically-applicable knowledge across a variety of practice areas, making this course ideal for the generalist in geriatric physical therapy who is committed to lifelong learning and providing top-quality, evidence-based care to his or her patients.
Course ObjectivesUpon completion of this home study course the participant will be able to:
1. Describe key elements of the management of the patient with diabetes post amputation.
2. Apply current evidence to the management of the integu-mentary system.
3. Describe ways to integrate health promotion into clinical practice for optimal patient outcomes.
4. Apply orthopedic considerations in the lower quarter to clinical practice.
5. Describe the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis in the up-per quarter.

How it WorksEach monograph will be 16 to 28 pages in length and will require 4 to 6 hours to complete. Course registrants will re-ceive all monographs together along with a final exam, answer sheet, and registration form for continuing education credit. The exam will consist of 20 multiple-choice questions based on the material in the monographs. Registrants must com-plete the exam and return the forms within 3 months after the course retires (see the “available through” date). The Section will award a certificate of completion for 25 contact hours to those who earn a score of 70% or higher on the exam.
Educational Credit25 contact hours. Completion of the series and satisfac-tory performance on the post test will give the subscriber 25 contact hours of continuing education. Only the regis-trant named will obtain contact hours; no exceptions will be made. Registrants must apply to their state licensure boards for approval of continuing education credit.
