"You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name." John 15:16
We often find ourselves overwhelmed during the busy Christmas season. We spend endless hours shopping and baking and decorating. There are choir concerts and special worship services to attend. We invite guests into our homes and host parties. Do we have to say "yes" to everything and everyone? Well, yes, we must say "yes" to at least one invitation, and that is the invitation of our Lord, the Child of Bethlehem. He quietly asks us to say "yes" to Him, to trust His word and His promises so that through faith in His name, we will bear the fruit of love and service that brings glory to the Heavenly Father. So, even in this very busy and exciting season, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to say "yes" to our Lord Jesus Christ.
All the Lord asks of us is a simple "yes", a simple act of trust, so that His choices for us can bear fruit in our lives. May we not be so busy with our way of living, our plans and projects, our relatives and friends, that we do not even notice the One who is closer than everyone else. Say "yes" to Jesus this Advent season.
-Rev. Scott A. Sager
The Lectionary recommends passages of scripture for each Sunday of the year. We will not read all of these in worship, but they are provided for your individual study and reflection for the week. We encourage you to read the lessons the week prior to Sunday service.

Come On In
4
You’ve got to practice what you preach,
When you’re walkin’ in the light,
Cause they’ll hold you up,
Under a spot light.
They’ll call you hypocrite,
When your humanness doesn’t fit,
With how they think you should live.
So be kind and gentle.
Leave judgment to the King.
Welcome the stranger,
To come on in.
Come as you are.
Come right of the street.
Our house is yours.
Come fill your cup.
No shirt, no shoes.
Come on in.
We welcome you.
We’re the house of sinners,
In our brokenness,
We’re here to love one another.
Come on in.
We’re reaching out.
We’re reaching in.
No one’s perfect.
There’s grace within.
We welcome you.
Come as you are.
Come right of the street.
Our house is yours.
Come fill your cup.
No shirt, no shoes.
Come on in.
We welcome you.

STEWARDSHIP MOMENT The Bowerbird of Australia and New Guinea is a fascinating bird. The male constructs and elaborate home for the female, preparing her a place to live, and especially a place to lay her eggs. Not only does the Bowerbird build a home, he builds a beautiful one. In Australia the Bowerbird often will select a favorite color…frequently blue…and pick up blue shreds of paper, blue balloons, anything blue, and build it into the house. The Gardener Bowerbird of New Guinea builds a roofed house, three feet wide made of orchid stems. He then carpets the floor and entrance with soft moss and even decorates it with fresh flowers and berries. As the flowers and berries fade, he replaces them with fresh ones. (I imagine a lot of women would like to have that kind of male around the house!) The male Bowerbirds do elaborately what all birds do. They prepare a place where eggs can be laid. They get it ready. They help new life come into the world, and be healthy and strong. John the Baptist was the Bowerbird of the gospel. He was the one who prepared for the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, and got things so Christ’s word could be heard in the world and be strong. He was the one who made important preparations so that Christ’s word could be effective. As we prepare for the coming of Christ during Advent, we think of that lovely and precious gift of Jesus Christ. And, as we receive, so we are moved to give. To give of ourselves, to each other. To give to those in need. To give ourselves in worship. So, let the theme of this Christmas season be giving and receiving. Receiving first, the amazing grace of God in the gift of Jesus Christ. Then to give; A gift for someone in need. A thank-offering of money for the Lord’s work at our church.
BOWLING LEAGUE
Sign up for the St. David’s bowling
league has begun and will start Sunday, January 6th, 2019.
The sign-up sheet will be posted on the
bulletin board or you may contact Pastor Scott at 717-880-6082.
The sign-up sheet has a space for the
team name, and 5 bowlers per team. If you want only 4 bowlers on your
team, you may cross off the 5th space. The league is open to all who want to participate and have fun with a great
bunch of people. The league bowls Sunday nights at 6:15 pm at South
Hanover Bowling Center, beginning January 6th. The cost is $10.00. This
includes 3 games of bowling plus shoes.
Bowling participants will get a 10% discount at the snack bar. January 6th will be the fun bowl. The league play
will begin on January 13th. The length of the season depends on
the number of teams we have. If you want to bowl but don't have enough
people to make a team, then I will put
you on a team that needs more players. So, come on out and join the fun!
