    Diagrams pros and cons

    Pros:

    Convenient for knowledge elicitation and structuring view

    (from particular viewpoint);

    Effective for knowledge dissemination to final users

    Cons:

    Hard to align different views and integrate information

    from different diagrams.

    especially under the following conditions:

    o evolving large-scale models,

    o different and overlapping diagram types,

    o many diagram instances.

    Problem statement

    .. but the existing matrix tools

    do not support grouping on the axis

    (hierarchical axis). These tools represent only plane lists of objects

    instances of two user-selected types in the repository.

    This is a crucial limitation, since it doesnt allow working

    with large amount of data;

    long lists cannot be conceived by human brain

    Research-based support: Comparison of the representation

    power of matrix and node-link diagrams

    Ghoniem et al. [7] showed that matrices outperform node-link

    diagrams for large or dense graphs in several low-level reading

    tasks, except path finding.

    This difference is supported by user study experiments conducted by

    Keller et al., as they found that node-link diagrams offer better visual

    representation for small, uncomplicated entities, but they are a

    complex form of representation for large systems and propagation

    across systems [8]

    The GOV-Master is a version of the ORG-Master, which complies with the

    federal, regional and local authorities modeling methodology developed

    by the authors of this research.

    The three aspects of GOV-Master framework (a version of ORG-Master)

    Conclusions

    Diagrams are good for knowledge elicitation, one-view

    structuring and dissemination.

    Matrices are good for complex large-scale knowledge

    structuring and on the fly analysis

    Advantages of the suggested matrix editing technology:

    provides big picture (context) and details simultaneously;

    combine model development with model exploration and

    analysis (e.g. gap analysis: highlighted elements without

    links in a matrix);

    compactness;

    large amount of information can be clearly arranged and

    manipulated at once.
