[ by vendors for brides ]

One of the many and greatest blessings that I have in my life is the wedding

industry. Weddings seem to transcend anything that is going on in the world. They are magical events. They bring families together, they mend broken relationships, they allow people to let loose and have fun, they inspire and they spread love. I have been in the wedding industry for over 18 years now and it has never gotten old for me. I still love the look on the grooms face as the bride walks down the aisle. I feel the tears of a father as he gives his daughter away. I feel the love of the couple as they enjoy their first dance. All of those things are once in a lifetime moments. Those precious moments can be captured and re-played, but never re-lived. I consider it an honor and a priviledge to have taken part in and witnessed so many weddings over the years. The magic of a beautiful wedding still lives in me. Suzy and I still excitedly tell each other all of the details of the respective weddings that we took part in on a particular evening. I hope to never lose that. I have created a tag line for the magazine that says, “By vendors for brides.” Everyone on staff here at the Nola Wedding Guide is a vendor in the wedding industry.

We live, eat at and breathe weddings. We are in the trenches, and have our collective thumb on the pulse of the wedding industry. It constantly inspires us to come up with fresh ideas to help today’s bride to plan her dream wedding. We have been there before and will be there again. We want to help. We want your wedding to be perfect.

As you can see, the magazine has changed since last issue. We are evolving and growing. We added to our staff by hiring Nonney and Ole Oddlokken, who are simply the best in the city at creative and art direction. Together with Jessica and Angie, I have compiled an all-star staff. I am honored to work with this particular group of people, and we will continue our ambitious work for our vendors and our brides. We have also signed a new distribution contract that will increase our distribution to unprecedented heights. We hope you enjoy this issue and as always, if we can help you in any way please call or email us. We want to help you. We want, what you want, magical wedding days.

On behalf of my wife Suzy, my sons Tyler and Ashton and all at the Nola Wedding Guide, we wish you happy and fun wedding planning.

[ featured bride ]Big Easy to the Big Apple and Back

NWG: Where were you born?

K: I was born in NOLA, but raised in Mandeville . NWG: Did you go to college here or away?

K: Auburn University in Alabama NWG: Where do you live now?

K: I live in NYC NWG: That’s a big move, what brought you there?

K: I interviewed for a job at a small magazine while on a family vacation. I soon after was hired and moved from Auburn to NYC. Big change in scenery to say the least. NWG: What is your career? Can you describe what you do?

K: I am the Executive Fashion Director of Glamour Magazine. I oversee the advertising and marketing programs for all of the American fashion brands and retailers who run in the magazine. NWG: Wow, that is quite impressive. What do you enjoy about it?

K: I love working with people, love working in fashion and love the magazine. One of my favorite parts of the job is seeing the fashion trends before they are out in store. It gives me time to plan out my next season’s must have pieces and also mentally prepares me on to wear the stranger/funkier trends.

NWG: How long have you been working there?

K: I have been with Conde Nast for 6 years. Working in the magazine industry for about 9 years.

NWG: Where was you fiancé Joel born? And what does he do?

K: Wisconsin. He is an investment banker (the good kind!) NWG: How did you two meet?

K: We met through mutual friends at a bar in New York. He sang me country songs that night, I was hooked. NWG: How long have you dated?

K: Over 3 years

NWG: If you had to describe him in 5 words what would those words be? What is a fun fact about him?

K: Handsome, loving, patient, kind and smart! He plays the fiddle. He was always going on and on about the fiddle players in the country bands that we listen to, so I bought him a fiddle and fiddle lessons for Christmas two years ago. He has since kept up with it and is getting really good. Our dog Norman loves to listen to him play. It is really cute.

NWG: What was the most romantic thing Joel has done?

K: He Bought me my first Chanel bag... Just kidding… Actually it was when he proposed on bended knee in a row boat on a lake in Montana. He is a big guy and I was certain we were going to tip, but I think it was I who almost fell out of the boat, I was in such shock.

Executive Fashion Director of Glamour Magazine, Katy Voltz, is coming home to tie the knot.

Page 15: NOLA Wedding Guide

13www.nolaweddingguide.com | nola wedding guide |

NWG: Why did you decided to have your wedding in NOLA, rather than NYC?

K: No contest. NOLA is such an amazing city. No other place in this country has more flavor and character. Joel feels the exact same way. Sometimes, I think he is even a bigger fan of NOLA than I am. We even scheduled our wedding during crawfish season! Another main reason we wanted to have the wedding back home, is to contribute to the economy down there. New York has enough money, we want to spend ours in New Orleans.

NWG: Tell us a little something about your wedding?

K: We’ve invited all of our guests to join us the night before for the rehearsal dinner at Pat O’s on the River. We are planning on turning the place into a piano bar after the speeches. I am a huge fan of piano bars. We are having the ceremony at St Anthony’s on Canal and the reception is at The Roosevelt Hotel in The Blue Room. We love the history of The Blue Room. My mom saw Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong on that stage when she was in high school. We have also rented the street cars to take all of our guests to and from the church. We are having a seated dinner, which is uncommon for the south, but it is a northern wedding tradition that Joel and I both feel is so elegant. The next morning we will be serving coffee and beignets for all of our guests. Everything about this wedding will ooze New Orleans! NWG: Tell us about your vendors and why you chose them?

K: Photographer- Atelier NOLA Working in the magazine business, I was very particular about who I wanted taking our pictures. I was just about to fly in a photographer from NYC and then a family friend recommended Atelier NOLA. I loved their work and how artistic their photos were. Band-No IdeaThis was another really big decision for Joel and me. We love all types of music. From Lady Antebellum to Lady Gaga. We almost flew in an entire band and their equipment from Boston. Thank God we found No Idea, they can play it all. You should hear them play Sweet Child of Mine. It was so spot on I tried to convince my dad that it should be the song that we dance to. He didn’t go for it, but I am sure it will end up on our play list

Videographer- Studio Vieux CarreHad some of the best editing I have seen. Great local family business. NWG: What are you most excited about in regards to your wedding? K: Becoming Joel’s wife. NWG: Where will you reside afterwards?

K: We hope to be able to live in NOLA at some point during our lives, but for now it’s NYC

Arriving at the New Orleans Saints training camp in Jackson, MS, Tori Nunez was into her third year as

a member of the Saintsations dance team. She spotted a 6’4” man across the field and couldn’t take her eyes off of him. Someone told her, “That’s Pat O, he works for the Saints.” Team policy dictates that Saintsations may not fraternize with the staff or players. Tori sighed disappointedly. It wasn’t until Pat got a new job that he and Tori officially started dating. Their first official date was to Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter. Little did they know, that five years later, they would be married across the street at the Saint Louis Cathedral. On November 8, 2009, the day before her birthday, Tori Nunez was asked to help coordinate the Saintsation Alumni Performance. Arriving at the Superdome with Pat, he requested that they take a picture on the field. Standing in the end zone, Pat got down on one knee. He said that since the Saints brought them together, it was only right that he propose on the

field in the Dome. Tori, of course, said yes!! The Saints won the game that day and then went on to win the Superbowl! A fairytale ending on both accounts. Adding a small Saints touch to the wedding, Tori hand tied a black ribbon with a gold fleur de lis charm to all of their ivory wedding invitations. The bridesmaids dresses were black and Tori had a gold sash around her lace dress with a fleur de lis broach in the center. Their sign-in book was the “Saints Road to the SuperBowl” photo book. They also second lined away from the cathedral to “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

“ My advice for any bride would simply be that it is the MARRIAGE that matters, not the wedding. Even though you’ve spent the past year planning every last detail of that magical day, not everything will go as planned...laugh it off and smile. Your new life has just begun! Oh, and as a little side note, Pat and I are expecting our first baby on October 2nd,(20 days before our first year anniversary!)”

Devyn had a crush on R&B singer Sammie. Her friend told her that she should meet her cousin,

Tracy, who looked just like Sammie. They met soon after and a courtship began. Tracy was still in college in Indiana when the couple met up in Orlando for spring break 2008. After that, they were inseparable. Devyn lived in Tampa at the time, so Tracy flew there every weekend. If not, he flew Devyn to Indiana. Not long after all those frequent trips, Devyn became pregnant with their first child. On Christmas day of 09, Tracy invited Devyn’s family to their house to celebrate. Tracy had to go to practice that day, but upon returning said, “Lets go thank everyone for coming.” Devyn found that odd but went along. After thanking everyone, Tracy began to talk about how well their families got along, their beautiful baby and how much he loved Devyn. Devyn knew something was up when she saw an imprint of a ring box in Tracy’s pocket. He got down on one knee and asked Devyn to marry him in front of their respective families. Devyn immediately started crying and looking

up to see that her mom and his mom were also crying. Devyn looked at the ring as Tracy was putting it on her finger and gasped, “Its huge.” He said, “What are you going to say?” Obviously, she said, “YESSS!” *blushing*

On December 29, 2007, Tiffany Rainey met Mark Surmik at Southport Hall while out to see a band

play. “I noticed Mark as soon as he walked in, and immediately told my friend, ‘I’m going to talk to him tonight,’ Tiffany says.” After making small talk, Mark stepped away to go to the restroom. Tiffany wrote her name and number on a napkin. When he came back, she shook his hand, slipped him the napkin and left. Mark called Tiffany the next day and a fabulous courtship ensued. On Christmas Eve 2009, Mark proposed to Tiffany. He slipped her engagement ring in a velvet heart shaped box and hung it from the Christmas tree. Mark told Tiffany that he had a new Christmas ornament, and as she turned to look, he dropped to one knee. He told her that she was the one and asked her to be his wife. That very same night, Tiffany emailed Jill at Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation to see if she had any openings for October. To her surprise, a bride had

recently cancelled on October 23rd. She immediately booked the date within a week. Tiffany also had her photographer and florist booked within a month.

In the most recent years, the bridal tiara’s popularity has been down due to the sentiment of being either too stuffy or too Cinderella-ish for the contemporary bride. Expect that all to change this year. With the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William marked as the wedding event of the decade, one can expect the reemergence of the bridal tiara as the new hot item. With the world’s biggest tiara collection to choose from, it is not a question of will Kate wear a tiara, but which one. Royal watchers’ only debate is if she will wear one lent to her by the Queen of England or one that will be created especially for her.

Much like the designs in the royal collection, tiaras come in infinite varieties of designs and gem choices. Fortunately for most, there is a tiara for every bride on every budget. There are designs for the demure bride who want to add just a tad more elegance to her hair, to the more ostentatious designs for the bride who glo-ries in making a fashion statement. In the past,

tiaras were often more prized for their integrate work-manship rather than their gems. The gems were often traded out for a more personal flair to fit their new owners.

Contemporary tiaras are usually moon shaped and of-ten have a peak at the center, but they also come in one to several bands which lay flat on the head like a headband. The most common tiaras are store bought and adorned with rhinestones and faux pearls, but it is not unheard of for brides with larger budgets to have them custom designed with crystals, diamonds, pearls and precious stones.

The biggest reason brides choose to wear a tiara is because they are much easier to wear alone than a veil and they still maintaining the sense of formality. For the ceremony, tiaras are often paired with a veil; then later, the veil is removed for the reception. Unlike a veil which is often awkward to wear, a tiara’s sparking

effect can create a luminous glow on a bride’s face, creating a flawless finish.

Tiaras are not necessarily an one time wear either. Some tiaras can be worn as chokers, while others have been transformed into other types of jewelry such as necklaces, bracelets or brooches. Others brides, choose to cherish the tradition, like the royal families of Europe, and turn them into family heirlooms passing them from generation to generation.

Regardless of size, either demure or big enough for the royal family to feel jealous, tiaras will be adorning the heads of many stylish brides as they walk down the aisle in the next coming years.

Dress by Bustles and Bows Bridal Boutique

Page 56: NOLA Wedding Guide

54 | nola wedding guide | www.nolaweddingguide.com

You have pictured yourself trying on bridal gowns since you were a little girl…so why are you so stressed now that

it is time to start looking for your dream dress? There always seems to be a bit of anxiety when it comes to trying on bridal gowns. It is essentially the biggest day of your life, a day when all eyes will be on you, and you want to look your best. These tips and suggestions will hopefully alleviate some of the stress, and make it a fun and memorable experience.

Always start by making an appointment, it will ensure that you have less of a wait time to be assisted. If at all possible try and avoid Saturday shopping. It can be one of the most hectic days and can be overwhelming, especially to a first time shopper. And don’t forget to pack your camera! We have had several brides choose between gowns simply because of how they photograph. We do encourage this, but some salons do not allow photog-raphy, so always be sure and check be-fore snapping away! And of course make sure the pictures do not end up in the wrong hands! Most importantly, be sure and eat something before heading out. Trying on gowns is a workout, and will take a lot of energy out of you! Also, wear comfortable easy to change clothing.

Try to limit the amount of people that you take with you, especially your first time. The more people you ask, the more opinions you get. If you have several people that you want to be part of your experience, bring them with you when you have it narrowed down to a few dresses, as you should always expect to make more than one trip. It’s a good idea to take a little break from shopping, as it helps you clear your mind. When you go back to try on the favorites, you will find it easier to compare.

Doing some homework before your appointment is a great way to begin your search. Looking online and skimming through bridal magazines will help you get some ideas as to styles you like. When shopping, keep in mind the day and time of your wedding. This can sometimes dictate things such as fabric, beading, etc. For instance, you may want to stay away from a heavy satin gown if your wedding is during the hot summer months. Also, your venue may help choosing your gown style. If your wedding is in a garden outdoors, you may opt for something totally opposite of what you would wear in a church setting. Be sure and let your bridal salon know these things as well so they can help steer you in the right direction.

Bring pictures with you when you begin shopping and show them to your consultant. Your consultant will essentially be your eyes and ears. They will be able to show you styles you have chosen, and make additional suggestions for you. Let them know as you are trying on what elements of dresses you like and don’t like. There may be something that can be done in alterations to make it your perfect gown. Also, try on accessories with each gown. Often times, something as simple as a veil can complete a look. If there is a family heirloom piece or something else that you plan on wearing with your gown, make sure to bring it as well. You want to make sure it will go with the gown you chose.

Now that you’re in the zone, and ready to try on, make sure you don’t get too overwhelmed. Limit the number of gowns you take in the room with you. Begin by trying on one of

each style that you have chosen and begin narrowing down. Once you have a fit that you love, you may be able to eliminate other gowns you have chosen. Choosing a gown should be a fun experience for all. Just make sure you pace yourself and take your time. If you begin to feel rushed or flustered, take a break and come back.

Lastly, keep an open mind when shopping. This is one of the best pieces of advice we can give. Here at Bustles and Bows, we also encourage our brides to be proactive and to look through the gowns. Especially since they may see something they didn’t describe that just might be the one! You really never know what you’re going to fall in love with. In the end, the only opinion that matters is yours.

Always go with your gut and how you feel in the dress.

Now that you have found THE dress, keep in mind to buy for your body now, not what you want it to be. Every woman wants to be in the best shape of her life when she walks down the aisle. It is not a good idea to purchase your gown several sizes smaller than the size your current measurements place you. It is so much easier to take a dress in then to let it out, if that is even an option.

Just remember, every bride glows in the dress that is right for them, and no matter what you wear on your big day, you will be the most gorgeous bride they’ve ever seen.

It was love at first sight, The perfect fit for your perfect day - your wedding dress. Although you wore it only once, if you take as much care in preserving your wedding dress as you did in choosing it. Then it can be enjoyed as a family heirloom for years to come. Symbolizing love and family. Here are a few tips to keep your beloved garment as beautiful as the day you wore it.

1. You can either have your dress professionally preserved, or you can do it yourself. Either way, your dress should be cleaned within six weeks following your wedding day. Even the smallest stains cause the dress to yellow over time.

2. Professional gown preservation costs between $150 and $500, depending on the amount of soilage. It is recommended to bring your dress to a reputable dry cleaner who cleans about 100 dresses or more a year.

3. If you choose to take things into your own hands, then you must first decide between box and hanger storage. It may be more practical to store the dress in a box, but hanger storage is the best way to prevent hard-to-remove creases. Either way, buy plenty of acid-free tissue paper.

4. For box storage, line an acid-free cardboard box with the tissue paper and lay the hem of the dress in the box. Fold the dress like an accordion, putting tissue paper between each fold. Stuff the bodice of the dress with crumpled tissue. Put some layers of tissue on top and put on the lid (make sure the lid is solid and does not have a plastic window). Store the box in a cool, dry closet. Check the condition of the dress each year, and re-pack so the folds are in different places.

5. For hanger storage, wrap a wide hanger with cotton batting and cover it with muslin. Buy an acid-free cardboard “dress shaper” and place it over the hanger. Wrap it in tissue and place the dress over it. Stuff the bodice of the dress and any deep folds with the acid-free tissue paper. Cover the dress with a muslin garment bag and hang it in a cool, dry closet, taking care not to crush it with other clothing. Check the dress each year and wash the muslin cover.

Jennifer and Dustin announced to their friends that they were dating the Friday before Hurricane

Katrina. The next morning Jennifer evacuated to Alabama, seperating the two. They reunited when plans were made for Dustin to fly to Alabama, and then drive to Slidell to help gut Jennifer’s mom’s house. The couple later confessed that they fell in love while shoveling mud, cleaning mold and staying in a house with no running water or electricity. Not particularly ideal conditions for a budding romance. Jennifer and Dustin both graduated from college in December 2008. They had plans to go to Christmas in the Oaks in City Park the day after Christmas, but the plans had to change due to Jennifer having a cold. They ended up going to their favorite restaurant, Bayona, and it was here that Dustin asked Jennifer to be his wife. She had no idea that he was going to propose that night, and quickly realized that she had messed up his plans for a romantic proposal at Christmas in the Oaks.

Although the setting changed, Jennifer says, “The night was perfect, other than the cold.” After all, they were used to overcoming obstacles.

“ Do not rush the wedding date! I had almost 2 years to plan and I still felt rushed on so many decisions. The day of the wedding flies by, so you have to try to remember and cherish the planning time.

Also, consider friends and families feelings while planning, but always remember that it is your day. I think it is okay to give in or compromise, but do not give up what is important to you.”

Q: Why should a bride hire a wedding planner and what are the benefits? A: A wedding planner has a tremendously intimate knowledge of New Orleans’ venues and its’ best keep secrets. They have established relationships with reputable vendors and will ensure that you are making good decisions throughout the planning process. As a planner, the job is to guide each and every bride so that when decisions are made, the couple can rest assured knowing that the decisions are sound and in their best interest. They will not have to second guess their choices.

Q: Are there different packages for wedding planners? A: Wedding planners offer a variety of packages, so even if you are not interested in “Full Service” consulting, there are also “Same Day” Wedding Coordinator packages. The “Same Day” wedding coordinator helps you create a running timeline for the day of your wedding. Starting in the morning, the day begins with hair and make-up and continues all the way to the end of your reception. The coordinator or planner also does all vendor confirmations the week of your wedding, ensuring that each vendor is aware of their particular role. The day of your wedding, your planner or coordinator is on site,

accepting and inspecting all deliveries to make sure of their arrival and perfection.

Hiring a planner or coordinator to handle all the details, allows the bride, or mother of the bride, to relax and enjoy the wedding day. Experienced wedding planners can also spot and resolve any potential glitches, most times without the bride ever knowing. Q: What is the difference between a wedding “planner” versus a wedding “coordinator”? A: Generally, a “planner” is hired from the beginning to help the bride find the perfect ceremony and reception location. They will also consult with and recommend all of the vendors including: photographers, videographers, hotel accommodations, transportation, ceremony and reception music, hair and make-up artists, florists/overall design concepts and wedding cakes. They will also assist with save the dates, invitations, programs and weekend welcome booklets. Planners simplify the entire process by pre-screening vendor availability and of course performing all of the duties of a “Same Day” Wedding Coordinator. A “coordinator” is generally hired much later in the planning process. They will help the bride to create the time-line, do all vendor confirmations the week of, attend the rehearsal and be on-site orchestrating the wedding day. Q: How much can a bride and groom expect to go over budget and what areas do you generally see this happening in? A: About 20% and I normally see this with flowers and the overall design concept. This includes, linens, specialty lighting and décor, as well as over inviting guests or having higher than average percentage of guests RSVP. Q: What do you feel is a maximum distance for a second line? A: Ideally no more than 6 – 8 blocks. One popular trend is offering female guests flip flops throughout the evening, especially if you are doing a second line at the end of the night. Q: Do you recommend doing bridal portraits and if so, why and how far in advance? A: Yes, I definitely recommend doing bridal portraits. It’s like a dress rehearsal, and a perfect time to do a hair and make-up trial. You can time yourself getting your hair and make-up done, getting into your dress and putting your jewelry on. You will then have a better idea of what to expect the day of. I recommend doing the portraits appx. 2 months prior to your wedding date. Your final fittings are about done and you will have time to have your dress spot cleaned and/or pressed or steamed if necessary.

Q: Hotel accommodations, what can one expect from the hotels in terms of the conditions of their contracts? A: Hotel terminology is important when negotiating with the hotels for wedding blocks. The first question you want to ask is does the hotel’s contract have an “attrition” clause. The attrition clause basically states that, “you are financially responsible for a certain percentage of rooms not picked up within your block.” Make sure there is not an attrition clause in your contract. The hotels that do not have attrition clauses in their contract will give you a 30 to 60 day cut-off date. Any rooms that are still remaining in your block by your cut-off date will be released. You also want to know how many rooms they will allow you to block out initially. The sooner your fill your block the more likely the hotel may expand the block for you. Encourage your guests through save the dates and emails to book their rooms sooner. They have up to 72 hours prior to their date of arrival to cancel the room.

Michele was previously the Director of Catering at a major New Orleans hotel. Her specialty was weddings. She loved the job but found herself wanting to work more closely with the brides.

Incorporating her infatuation with interior design, as well as fashion and accessories, she put her creative talents to good use by forming her own company called Unique Weddings in New Orleans. Michele is able to oversee design conceptions and work with different venues and vendors to help brides create their perfect day.

Natalie and Christopher met through mutual friends. One of their first dates was at a small Italian restaurant in Lafayette. They were so into each other, that they almost got locked in the restaurant at closing time. They were inseparable from then on, and were very much in love. In late November of 2009, the couple found out that they would be having a beautiful baby boy. Christian Todd Roy was born on August 25, 2010 and brought them closer than they ever dreamed possible. In July of 2010, on a trip to Gulf Shores, Al., Chris had planned to propose to Natalie. After the long drive, all Natalie wanted to do was go to bed. Chris tried, with no success, to get Natalie out on the balcony of their condo which had a beautiful view of the beach. Undeterred, he crept into the bedroom and as Natalie was falling asleep, slid the ring onto her finger. Natalie was now fully awake and sat straight up in bed. Chris said, “I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?” Natalie said, “Of course!!”

Natalie spent the next few hours calling and waking her entire family to tell them the news. She says, “I am still on cloud 9 and married to my best friend.” Natalie and Chris are from Lafayette, LA., but wanted their wedding somewhere out of town. They didn’t want a traditional church wedding, but wanted to have all of their family and friends take a few days of vacation together. They considered multiple locations, but finally decided on New Orleans because it is such a romantic setting.

“ Don’t sweat the small stuff when planning! I stressed over the little things WAY too much right down to my nail polish and the bridesmaid’s accessories. When the big day comes, all of these details will fade away. After all of the planning and stressing, your wedding day will fly by in the blink of an eye so enjoy every bit of it!”

When you apply for your marriage license, at least one party must appear in person. He or she must have all the necessary information and documents outlined below.

1. State law requires a cerfitied copy of each party’s birth certificate, if born in Louisiana. Passports are not acceptable. If either party was born out-of-state, a waiver can be submitted. If either party was born out-of-country, a valid passport, naturalization papers, or green card, along with a valid state ID card or driver’s license must be presented at the office, and to a judge to obtain a waiver.

2. If either party is divorced, he/she must present a certified copy of the final divorce decree.

3. If either party is widowed, he/she must present a certified copy of a death certificate.

4. Each party must know his/her social security number, but no documentation is required.

5. Both bride and groom will need to complete a marriage license application; forms can be presented by either applicant in person.

Age RequirementsIf either applicant is under 18 years of age, but more than 16, the marriage is lawful and a license may be issued if the applicants provide: written consent of both parents (or custodian), or an order from a judge or juvenille court. In the event the applicant is under 16, all the above three things will be required.

General InfoA Louisiana license is valid in any parish in Loui-siana for 30 days. There is a 72-hour waiting period between the time of issuance and the ceremony. Only a district judge or Justice of the Peace can waive this. Newlyweds should order a certified copy of their marriage license two weeks after the marriage to ensure that the license has been returned and recorded.

If you want a traditional New Orleans wedding, you want to hire a brass band for a Second Line Parade. It is a way of expressing the unique local flavor of the city. The Second Line is the parade of people following the musicians, who are called the “First Line”. The sounds of the instruments (trumpet, tuba, trombone, sax, banjo and clarinet) are coupled with a snare and bass drum. A Grand Marshal will lead your wedding guests around a French Quarter block announcing and celebrating your event. These parades began back in the 19th century, with organi-zations advertising for burials and honoring the deceased all in one announcement. Many newlyweds can be seen with their umbrellas, white for the bride, black for the groom, and their guests holding handkerchiefs as they follow the band.

For more information on booking a second line band, call Stu at the Howlin’ Wolf, 504-522-9653.
