Network servicesTo use the device you must have servicefrom a wireless service provider. Somefeatures are not available on all networks;other features may require that you makespecific arrangements with your serviceprovider to use them. Network servicesinvolve transmission of data. Check withyour service provider for details aboutfees in your home network and whenroaming on other networks. Your serviceprovider can explain what charges willapply. Some networks may havelimitations that affect how you can usesome features of this device requiringnetwork support such as support forspecific technologies like WAP 2.0protocols (HTTP and SSL) that run on TCP/IP protocols and language-dependentcharacters.

Your service provider may have requestedthat certain features be disabled or not

activated in your device. If so, thesefeatures will not appear on your devicemenu. Your device may also havecustomized items such as menu names,menu order, and icons.

• Restart the device: switch off thedevice, and remove the battery. Afterabout a minute, replace the battery,and switch on the device.

• Restore the original factory settingsas explained in the user guide. Yourdocuments and files will be deleted inthe reset, so back up your data first.

• Update your device software regularlyfor optimum performance andpossible new features, as explained inthe user guide.

Software updates over the airSelect > Settings > Data mgr. > SWupdate.

With Software update (network service),you can check if there are updatesavailable for your device software orapplications, and download them to yourdevice.

Downloading software updates mayinvolve the transmission of large amountsof data (network service).

Make sure that the device battery hasenough power, or connect the chargerbefore starting the update.

Warning:If you install a software update, youcannot use the device, even to makeemergency calls, until the installation iscompleted and the device is restarted. Besure to back up data before acceptinginstallation of an update.

After updating your device software orapplications using Software update, theinstructions related to the updatedapplications in the user guide or the helpsmay no longer be up to date.

Select Options and from the following:

Start update — Download the availableupdates. To unmark specific updates thatyou do not want to download, select theupdates from the list.Update via PC — Update your deviceusing a PC. This option replaces the Startupdate option when updates are onlyavailable using the Nokia SoftwareUpdater PC application.View details — View information on anupdate.View update history — View the statusof previous updates.Settings — Change the settings, such asthe default access point used fordownloading updates.Disclaimer — View the Nokia licenceagreement.

Update software using your PCNokia Software Updater is a PC applicationthat enables you to update your devicesoftware. To update your device software,you need a compatible PC, broadbandinternet access, and a compatible USBdata cable to connect your device to thePC.

In-device helpYour device contains instructions to helpto use the applications in your device.

To open help texts from the main menu,select > Help > Help and theapplication for which you want to readinstructions.

When an application is open, to access thehelp text for the current view, selectOptions > Help.

When you are reading the instructions, tochange the size of the help text, selectOptions > Decrease font size orIncrease font size.

Get started

Insert SIM card and battery

1 To remove the back cover of thedevice, open the micro USB connectorcover, press the release button, andlift the back cover off.

2 Slide the SIM card holder back tounlock it (1), lift the SIM card holder(2), and slide the SIM card into the SIMcard holder (3).

Ensure that the contact area on thecard is facing down on the device, andthe bevelled corner is facing down inthe SIM card holder.

3 Lower the SIM card holder (4), andslide it forward to lock it (5).

4 Insert the battery.

5 To replace the back cover, direct thebottom locking catches toward theirslots (1), and press until the coverlocks into place (2).

Always switch the device off anddisconnect the charger before removingthe battery.

Insert a memory cardThe memory card may be supplied withthe device, and may already be inserted.

1 Remove the back cover of the device.

2 Place the card in the slot with thecontact area facing down (1), and

push the card gently to lock it intoplace (2).

3 Replace the back cover.

Charge the batteryYour battery has been partially charged atthe factory. If the device indicates a lowcharge, do the following:

1 Connect the charger to a wall outlet.2 Connect the charger to the device.

3 When the battery is fully charged,disconnect the charger from thedevice, then from the wall outlet.

You do not need to charge the battery fora specific length of time, and you can usethe device while it is charging. If thebattery is completely discharged, it maytake several minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display or beforeany calls can be made.

Tip: If you have old compatible Nokiachargers, you can use them with yourdevice by attaching the CA-44 chargeradapter to the old charger. The adapter isavailable as a separate accessory.

USB chargingYou can use USB charging when a walloutlet is not available. When chargingyour device with the USB data cable, thecharging time is longer. USB chargingefficiency varies significantly. In somecases, it may take a very long time forcharging to start and the device to startfunctioning.

With USB charging, you can also transferdata with the USB data cable whilecharging the device.

1 Connect a compatible USB device toyour device using a compatible USBdata cable.Depending on the type of the devicethat is used for charging, it may takea while for charging to start.

2 If the device is switched on, selectfrom the available USB mode optionson the display of the device.

Switch the device on and off

Press and hold the power key to switch thedevice on and off. Press the power keybriefly to end a call or close an application.

If the device asks for a PIN code, enter thePIN code, and select OK.

If the device asks for the lock code, enterthe lock code, and select OK. The factorysetting for the lock code is 12345.

To set the correct time zone, time, anddate, select the country you are presentlyin, then enter the local time and date.

Antenna locationsYour device may have internal andexternal antennas. Avoid touching theantenna area unnecessarily while theantenna is transmitting or receiving.Contact with antennas affects thecommunication quality and may cause ahigher power level during operation andmay reduce the battery life.

Configuration settingsBefore you can use multimediamessaging, e-mail, synchronisation,streaming, and the browser, you musthave the proper configuration settings inyour device. Your device mayautomatically configure browser,multimedia messaging, access point, andstreaming settings based on the SIM cardused. If not, you can use the Settingswizard application to configure thesettings. You may receive the settings asa configuration message that you can saveto your device. For more information on

availability, contact your service provideror nearest authorised Nokia dealer.

When you receive a configurationmessage, and the settings are notautomatically saved and activated, 1 newmessage is displayed. To save thesettings, select Show > Options > Save.You may need to enter a PIN codeprovided by the service provider.

Settings wizardSelect > Settings > Sett. wizard.

Use Settings wizard to define e-mail andconnection settings. The availability of theitems in Settings wizard depends on thefeatures of the device, SIM card, serviceprovider, and the data in the Settingswizard database.

To start Settings wizard, select Start.

To get the best results when using thesettings wizard, keep your SIM cardinserted in the device. If the SIM card is notinserted, follow the instructions on thedisplay.

Select from the following:Operator — Define the operator-specificsettings, such as MMS, internet, WAP, andstreaming settings.E-mail setup — Configure a POP, IMAP, orMail for Exchange account.

Home screenWhen you have switched on the device,and it is registered to a network, thedevice is in the home screen and ready foruse.

To open a list of most recently diallednumbers, press the call key.

To use voice commands or voice dialling,press and hold the right selection key.

To change the profile, press the power keybriefly, and select a profile.

To open a connection to the web, pressand hold 0.

To activate or deactivate Bluetoothconnectivity, press and hold *.

To modify the home screen, select >Settings > Settings and General >Personalisation > Standby mode andfrom the available options.

Offline profileTo quickly activate the Offline profile,press the power key briefly, and selectOffline.

To switch to another profile, press thepower key briefly, and select a profile.

When the Offline profile is active, allconnections that use radio frequenciesare closed. However, you can use yourdevice without the SIM card and listen tothe radio or music. Remember to switchoff your device when wireless phone useis prohibited.

Important: In the Offline profile youcannot make or receive any calls, or useother features that require cellularnetwork coverage. Calls may still bepossible to the official emergency numberprogrammed into your device. To makecalls, you must first activate the phonefunction by changing profiles. If the devicehas been locked, enter the lock code.

Display indicatorsThe device is being used in a UMTSnetwork or a GSM network (networkservice). The bar next to the iconindicates the signal strength of thenetwork at your current location.The higher the bar, the stronger thesignal.

High-speed downlink packet access(HSDPA) / high-speed uplink packetaccess (HSUPA) (network service) inthe UMTS network is activated.

The device is using the Offlineprofile and is not connected to acellular network.

The battery charge level. The higherthe bar, the stronger the charge inthe battery.

You have unread messages in theInbox folder in Messaging.

You have received new e-mail in theremote mailbox.

There are messages waiting to besent in the Outbox folder inMessaging.

You have missed calls.

The keys of the device are locked.

An alarm is active.

You have activated the Silentprofile, and the device does not ringfor an incoming call or message.

Bluetooth connectivity is activated.

A Bluetooth connection isestablished. When the indicator isblinking, your device is trying toconnect with another device.

A GPRS packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

An EGPRS packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

A UMTS packet data connection isavailable (network service). indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

HSDPA/HSUPA is supported andavailable (network service). Theicon may vary between regions. indicates that the connection isactive. indicates that theconnection is on hold.

Your device is connected to acomputer with a USB data cable.

The second phone line is being used(network service).

All calls are forwarded to anothernumber. If you have two phonelines, a number indicates the activeline.

A headset or a loopset is connectedto the device.

A hands-free car kit is connected tothe device.

A text phone is connected to thedevice.

Your device is synchronising.

Other indicators may also be displayed.

Power saverSelect > Settings > Settings.

To define the screen saver settings, selectGeneral > Personalisation > Displayand from the following:

Power saver time-out — Set the lengthof time that the device is inactive beforethe power saver is activated.Light time-out — Set the length of timethat the device is inactive before thescreen is dimmed.

In the menu, you can access the functionsin your device.

If you change the order of the functions inthe menu, the order may differ from thedefault order described in this user guide.

To change the menu view, selectOptions > Change Menu view.

To close an application or a folder, selectOptions > Exit.

To display and switch between openapplications, press and hold the homekey, and select an application.

Leaving applications running in thebackground increases the demand onbattery power and reduces the batterylife.

Volume controlTo adjust the volume when listening to anaudio file, scroll up or down.

To adjust the volume during a call, scrollleft or right.

To activate or deactivate the loudspeakerduring a call, select Loudsp. or Handset.

Warning:Continuous exposure to high volume maydamage your hearing. Listen to music at amoderate level, and do not hold the devicenear your ear when the loudspeaker is inuse.

Keypad lock (keyguard)To unlock the keypad, open the slide, orselect Unlock, then quickly select OK.

Select > Settings > Settings andGeneral.

To set the device to lock the keypad whenyou close the slide, select Slidehandling > Keyguard activation.

To set the device to automatically lock thekeypad after a certain length of time,select Security > Phone and SIM card >Keypad autolock period > Userdefined, and select the desired time.

When the device or keypad is locked, callsmay be possible to the official emergencynumber programmed into your device.

Access codesSelect > Settings > Settings.

To define how your device uses the accesscodes and security settings, selectGeneral > Security > Phone and SIMcard and from the following:

• The PIN (UPIN) code, supplied with theSIM (USIM) card, helps to protect thecard against unauthorised use.

• The PIN2 (UPIN2) code, supplied withsome SIM (USIM) cards, is required toaccess certain services.

• PUK (UPUK) and PUK2 (UPUK2) codesmay be supplied with the SIM (USIM)card. If you enter the PIN codeincorrectly three times in succession,you are asked for the PUK code. If thecodes are not supplied, contact yourservice provider.

• The security code helps to protectyour phone against unauthorised use.You can create and change the code,and set the phone to request the code.Keep the code secret and in a safeplace separate from your phone. Ifyou forget the code and your phone islocked, your phone will requireservice and additional charges may

apply. For more information, contactyour service provider.

• The barring password is requiredwhen using the call barring service torestrict calls to and from your phone(network service).

Remote lockYou can lock your device from anotherdevice using a text message. To enableyour device to be locked remotely, and todefine the lock message to be used, select

> Settings > Settings > General >Security and Phone and SIM card >Remote phone locking. When you haveentered the message, select OK. Themessage can be up to 20 characters long.

To lock your device, send the lock messageas a text message to your mobile phonenumber. To unlock your device later,select Unlock, and enter the lock code.

InstallationsSelect > Applications >Installations.

You can find additional applications anddownload applications into this folder.

Important: Only install and useapplications and other software fromtrusted sources, such as applications thatare Symbian Signed or have passed theJava Verified™ testing.

Connect a compatible headsetDo not connect products that create anoutput signal as this may cause damageto the device. Do not connect any voltagesource to the Nokia AV Connector.

When connecting any external device orany headset, other than those approvedby Nokia for use with this device, to the

Nokia AV Connector, pay special attentionto volume levels.

Connect a USB data cableConnect a compatible USB data cable tothe USB connector.

To select the default USB connection modeor change the active mode, select >Settings and Connectivity > USB > USBconnection mode, and select the desiredmode.

To select whether the default mode isactivated automatically, select Ask onconnection.

Wrist strapThread the wrist strap, and tighten it.

Call functions

Voice callsMake a call

To make a call, enter the phone number,including the area code, and press the callkey.

Tip: For international calls, add the +character that replaces the internationalaccess code, and enter the country code,area code (omit the leading 0, ifnecessary), and phone number.

To end the call or cancel the call attempt,press the end key.

To make a call using the saved contacts,open the contacts. Enter the first letters ofthe name, scroll to the name, and pressthe call key.

To make a call using the log, press the callkey to view up to 20 numbers that you lastcalled or attempted to call. Scroll to thedesired number or name, and press thecall key.

To adjust the volume of an active call,scroll right or left.

To switch from a voice call to a video call,select Options > Switch to video call.The device ends the voice call and makesa video call to the recipient.

Speed diallingSelect > Settings > Settings andPhone > Call > Speed dialling.

Speed dialling allows you to make a call bypressing and holding a number key in thehome screen.

To activate speed dialling, select On.

To assign a number key to a phonenumber, select > Settings > Speeddial.

Scroll to the number key (2 - 9) on thedisplay, and select Options > Assign.

Select the desired number from thecontacts list.

To delete the phone number assigned toa number key, scroll to the speed diallingkey, and select Options > Remove.

To modify a phone number assigned to anumber key, scroll to the speed diallingkey, and select Options > Change.

Voice mail Select > Settings > Call mailbox.

When you open the Voice mail applicationfor the first time, you are asked to enterthe number of your voice mailbox.

To call your voice mailbox, scroll to Voicemailbox, and select Options > Call voicemailbox.

To call your mailbox in the home screen,press and hold 1; or press 1 and then thecall key. Select the mailbox you want tocall.

To change the mailbox number, select themailbox and Options > Changenumber.

Voice diallingMake a phone call by saying the name thatis saved in the contacts list.

Note: Using voice tags may be difficult ina noisy environment or during anemergency, so you should not rely solelyupon voice dialling in all circumstances.

1 In the home screen, press and holdthe right selection key.A short tonesounds, and Speak now is displayed.

2 Say the name of the contact you wantto dial. If the voice recognition issuccessful, a list of proposed matchesis displayed. The phone plays thevoice command of the first match onthe list. If it is not the correctcommand, scroll to another entry.

Make a conference call1 To make a conference call, enter a

participant's phone number, andpress the call key.

2 When the participant answers, selectOptions > New call.

3 When you have made a phone call toall the participants, select Options >Conference to merge the calls into aconference call.

To mute the microphone of your deviceduring the call, select Options > Mute.

To drop a participant from the conferencecall, scroll to the participant, and selectOptions > Conference > Dropparticipant.

To discuss privately with a conference callparticipant, scroll to the participant, andselect Options > Conference > Private.

Answer a call

To answer a call, press the call key, or openthe slide.

To set the device to answer a call whenyou open the slide, select >Settings > Settings and General > Slidehandling.

To reject a call, press the end key.

To mute the ringing tone instead ofanswering a call, select Silence.

When you have an active call and the callwaiting feature (network service) isactivated, to answer a new incoming call,press the call key. The first call is put onhold. To end the active call, press the endkey.

Call and data registersSelect > Log.

To view recently missed, received, anddialled calls, select Recent calls.

Tip: To view the dialled numbers when inthe home screen, press the call key.

To view the approximate duration of callsto and from your device, select Callduration.

To view the amount of data transferredduring packet data connections, selectPacket data.

Video calls

Make a video call

To make a video call, enter the phonenumber or select the recipient from thecontacts list and Options > Call > Videocall. When the video call starts, thecamera of the device is activated. If thecamera is already in use, video sending isdisabled. If the recipient of the call doesnot want to send video back to you, a stillimage is shown instead. To define the stillimage sent from your device instead ofvideo, select > Settings > Settingsand Phone > Call > Image in videocall.

To disable the sending of audio, video, orvideo and audio, select Options >Disable > Sending audio, Sendingvideo, or Sending aud. & video.

To adjust the volume of an active videocall, scroll right or left.

To use the loudspeaker, select Options >Activate loudspeaker. To mute theloudspeaker and use the earpiece, selectOptions > Activate handset.

To swap the places of images, selectOptions > Swap images.

To zoom the image on the display, selectOptions > Zoom and scroll up or down.

To end the video call and make a newvoice call to the same recipient, selectOptions > Switch to voice call.

Answer or reject a video callWhen a video call arrives, is displayed.

1 To answer the video call, press the callkey.

2 To start sending live video image,select Yes.

If you do not activate the video sending,you only hear the voice of the caller. A greyscreen replaces your own video image. Toenable the video sending, selectOptions > Enable > Sending video.To replace the grey screen with a stillimage captured by the camera in yourdevice, select > Settings andTelephony > Call > Image in videocall.

If you do not want to answer a video call,press the end key.

Call settingsCall settingsSelect > Settings > Settings andPhone > Call.

Select from the following:

Send my caller ID — Display your phonenumber to the person you are calling.Call waiting — Set the device to notifyyou of incoming calls while you are in acall (network service).Reject call with message — Send a textmessage when you reject a call, informingthe caller why you could not answer thecall.Message text — Write the standard textmessage that is sent when you reject acall.Own video in recvd. call — Allow or denyvideo sending during a video call fromyour device.Image in video call — If video is not sentduring a video call, select the image to bedisplayed instead.

Automatic redial — Set your device tomake a maximum of 10 attempts toconnect the call after an unsuccessful callattempt. To stop automatic redialling,press the end key.Show call duration — Display the lengthof a call during a call.Summary after call — Display the lengthof a call after a call.Speed dialling — Activate speed dialling.Anykey answer — Activate anykeyanswer.Line in use — This setting (networkservice) is available only if the SIM cardsupports two subscriber numbers, that is,two phone lines. Select which phone lineyou want to use to make calls or send textmessages. Calls on both lines can beanswered irrespective of the selected line.If you select Line 2 and have notsubscribed to this network service, youare not able to make calls. When line 2 isselected, is displayed in the homescreen.Line change — Prevent phone lineselection (network service), if supportedby your SIM card. To change this setting,you need the PIN2 code.Contact search — Activate contact searchin the home screen.

Call divertSelect > Settings > Settings andPhone > Call divert.

To divert calls to your voice mailbox, selecta call type, a diverting option,andOptions > Activate > To voicemailbox.

To divert calls to another phone number,select a call type, a diverting option, andOptions > Activate > To othernumber. Enter the number, or selectFind to retrieve a number saved inContacts.

To check the current diverting status,scroll to the diverting option, and selectOptions > Check status.

To stop diverting calls, scroll to thediverting option, and select Options >Deactivate.

Call barringSelect > Settings > Settings andPhone > Call barring.

You can bar the calls that can be made orreceived with the device (network

service). To modify the settings, you needthe barring password from your serviceprovider. Call barring affects all call types.

Select from the following voice callbarring settings:Outgoing calls — Prevent making voicecalls with your device.Incoming calls — Prevent incoming calls.International calls — Prevent calling toforeign countries or regions.Incoming calls when roaming — Prevent incoming calls when outsideyour home country.International calls except to homecountry — Prevent calls to foreigncountries or regions, but allow calls toyour home country.

To check the status of voice call barrings,select the barring option and Options >Check status.

To deactivate all voice call barrings, selecta barring option and Options >Deactivate all barrings.

To change the password used for barringvoice, fax, and data calls, selectOptions > Edit barring password. Enterthe current code, then the new code twice.The barring password must be four digitslong. For details, contact your serviceprovider.

To select the network mode, selectNetwork mode and Dual mode, UMTS,

or GSM. In dual mode, the device switchesautomatically between networks.

Tip: Selecting UMTS enables faster datatransfer, but may increase the demand onbattery power and reduce the battery life.In regions close to both GSM and UMTSnetworks, selecting Dual mode maycause constant jumping between the twonetworks, which also increases thedemand on battery power.

To select the operator, select Operatorselection and Manual to select fromavailable networks, or Automatic to setthe device to select the networkautomatically.

To set the device to indicate when it isused in a microcellular network (MCN),select Cell info display > On.

Personalisation

You can adjust and customise the ringingtones, alert tones, and other device tonesfor different events, environments, orcaller groups. The active profile is shownat the top of the display in the homescreen. However, if the active profile isGeneral, only today's date is shown.

To create a new profile, select Options >Create new, and define the settings.

To customise a profile, select a profile andOptions > Personalise.

To change a profile, select a profile andOptions > Activate.The Offline profileprevents your device from accidentallyswitching on, sending or receivingmessages, or using Bluetooth connectivityor FM radio; it also closes any internetconnection that may be in operationwhen the profile is selected. The Offlineprofile does not prevent you fromestablishing a Bluetooth connection at alater time, or from restarting the FM radio,so comply with any applicable safetyrequirements when establishing andusing these features.

To set the profile to be active until acertain time within the next 24 hours,scroll to the profile, select Options >Timed, and set the time. When the timeexpires, the profile changes back to thepreviously active non-timed profile. Whenthe profile is timed, is displayed in thehome screen. The Offline profile cannot betimed.

To delete a profile that you created, selectOptions > Delete profile. You cannotdelete the predefined profiles.

Camera

Your device has two cameras to capturestill images and record videos. A highresolution main camera is on the back ofthe device using landscape mode, andlower resolution secondary camera is onthe front of the device using portraitmode. To activate the secondary camerawhen the main camera is activated, selectOptions > Use secondary camera.

Capture an imageWhen capturing an image, note thefollowing:

• Use both hands to keep the camerasteady.

• The quality of a digitally zoomedimage is lower than that of a non-zoomed image.

• The camera goes into battery savingmode after about a minute ofinactivity.

• Keep a safe distance when using theflash. Do not use the flash on peopleor animals at close range. Do not coverthe flash while taking a picture.

2 To lock the focus on an object, pressthe capture key halfway down (notavailable in landscape or sport scenemodes). A green locked focusindicator is displayed. Thered pause mark indicates that youshould stop moving until the greenarrow is displayed again. You canpredict when the next key frame iscaptured when the red rectangle

moves to the centre of the previewarea.

3 To complete the capture, select Stop.The panoramic capture stopsautomatically when the maximumimage width has been reached. Notethat it may take some time for thedevice to process the captured image.

Record video clips1 To switch from image mode to video

mode, if necessary, select imagemode from the active toolbar.

2 To pause recording, select Pause. Toresume, select Continue. If you pauserecording and do not press any keywithin one minute, the recordingstops.To zoom in or out, use the zoom keys.

3 To stop recording, press the capturekey. The video clip is automaticallysaved in Photos.

Gallery

Select > Gallery.

Use Gallery to access different types ofmedia, such as images and videos, music,sound clips, streaming links andpresentations. All viewed images andvideos, and music and sound clips areautomatically saved to Gallery. Sound clipsand music are played in the Music player,streaming links by the Video centre.Images are viewed and videos are playedwith the Photos application.

About GallerySelect > Gallery > Images & videosand from the following:

Captured — View all the images andvideo clips you have captured.Months — View images and video clipscategorised by the month they werecaptured.Albums — View the default albums andthe ones you have created.Tags — View the tags you have createdfor each item.Downloads — View items and video clipsdownloaded from the web or received asa multimedia or e-mail message.Share online — Post your images to theweb.

Files stored on your compatible memorycard (if inserted) are indicated with .

To copy or move files to another memorylocation, select a file, Options > Moveand copy, and the appropriate option.

Contacts

Select > Contacts.

In Contacts, you can save and updatecontact information, such as phonenumbers, home addresses, or e-mailaddresses of your contacts. You can add apersonal ringing tone or a thumbnailimage to a contact card. You can alsocreate contact groups, which allow you tosend e-mail or text messages to manyrecipients at the same time.

Manage names and numbers

To delete a contact card, select a card, andpress C.

To delete several contact cards at thesame time, select Options > Mark/Unmark to mark the desired contactcards, and press C to delete.

To listen to the voice tag assigned to thecontact, select a contact card andOptions > Voice tag details >Options > Play voice tag.

Ringing tones, images, and call text forcontactsYou can define a ringing tone for a contactor group, and an image and a call text fora contact. When the contact calls you, thedevice plays the selected ringing tone andshows the call text or image (if the caller’sphone number is sent with the call andyour device recognises it).

To define a ringing tone for a contact or acontact group, select the contact orcontact group and Options > Ringingtone, and a ringing tone.

To define a call text for a contact, selectthe contact and Options > Add text forcall. Enter the call text, and select OK.

To add an image for a contact saved in thedevice memory, select the contact,Options > Add image, and an imagefrom Gallery.

To remove the ringing tone, selectDefault tone from the list of ringingtones.

To view, change or remove the imagefrom a contact, select the contact,Options > Image, and the desiredoption.

Copy contacts

When you open the contacts list for thefirst time, the device asks if you want tocopy names and numbers from the SIMcard to your device.

To start copying, select OK.

If you do not want to copy the contactsfrom the SIM card to your device, selectCancel. The device asks if you want toview the SIM card contacts in the contactsdirectory. To view the contacts, selectOK. The contacts list opens, and the namesstored on your SIM card are indicated with

.

Stay connected with your onlinefriendsYou can synchronise the contactinformation on your device with contactsyou have on social networking services.When you allow synchronisation, you areable to view your contacts' profileinformation, such as their picture andstatus updates, in the Contacts applicationon your device.

Synchronising your contacts andretrieving status updates are networkservices. Roaming and data transfercharges may apply. If the socialnetworking service is not available orfunctioning correctly, you may not be ableto synchronise or retrieve status updates.

To start synchronising your contacts, go tothe settings of the social networkingapplication on your device, select anaccess point and set the frequency of theautomatic synchronisation.

To deactivate the connection betweenContacts and the social networkingservice, in the settings of the socialnetworking service application on yourdevice, clear the Enable check box.

This feature may not be available incertain regions.

Traditional text input indicates traditional text input.

and indicate the uppercaseand lowercase. indicates thesentence case, that is, the first letter of thesentence is written in uppercase and allthe other letters are automatically writtenin lowercase. indicates numbermode.

To write text with the keypad, press anumber key, 2-9, repeatedly until thedesired character is displayed. There aremore characters available for a numberkey than are printed on the key. If the nextletter is located on the same key as thepresent one, wait until the cursor isdisplayed, and enter the letter.

To insert a number, press and hold thenumber key.

To switch between the different charactercases and modes, press #.

To erase a character, press the clear key.Press and hold the clear key to erase morethan one character.

To enter the most common punctuationmarks, press 1 repeatedly until thedesired punctuation mark is displayed.

To add special characters, press and hold*.

To insert a space, press 0. To insert a linebreak, press 0 three times.

Predictive text input1 To activate or deactivate predictive

text input, press # twice quickly. Thisactivates or deactivates predictivetext input for all editors in the device.

indicates that predictive textinput is activated.

2 To write the desired word, press thekeys 2-9. Press each key once for eachletter.

3 When you have finished writing theword, and it is correct, scroll right toconfirm it, or press 0 to add a space.If the word is not correct, press *repeatedly to view the matchingwords in the dictionary.If the ? character is displayed after theword, the word you intended to writeis not in the dictionary. To add a wordto the dictionary, select Spell, enterthe word (up to 32 letters) usingtraditional text input, and select OK.The word is added to the dictionary.When the dictionary is full, the newword replaces the oldest added word.

Write the first part of a compound word;to confirm it, scroll right. Write the secondpart of the compound word. To completethe compound word, press 0 to add aspace.

Change the writing languageWhen you are writing text, you can changethe writing language. For example, if youpress the 6 key repeatedly to reach aspecific character, changing the writinglanguage gives you access to characters ina different order.

If you are writing text using a non-Latinalphabet and want to write Latincharacters, for example e-mail or webaddresses, you may need to change the

writing language. To change the writinglanguage, select Options > Inputoptions > Writing language, and awriting language that uses Latincharacters.

Copy and delete text1 To select letters and words, press and

hold #, and at the same time scroll leftor right. To select lines of text, pressand hold #, and at the same timescroll up or down.

2 To copy the text, press and hold #, andat the same time select Copy.To delete the selected text, press theclear key C.

3 To paste the text, scroll to the desiredlocation, press and hold #, and at thesame time select Paste.

Messaging

Select > Messaging.

In Messaging (network service), you cansend and receive text, multimedia, audio,and e-mail messages. You can also receiveweb service messages, cell broadcastmessages, and special messagescontaining data, and send servicecommands.

The available messaging types may vary.For more information, contact yourservice provider.

Before sending or receiving messages,you may need to do the following:

• Insert a valid SIM card in the deviceand be located in the service area of acellular network.

• Verify that the network supports themessaging features you want to useand that they are activated on yourSIM card.

• Define the internet access pointsettings on the device.

• Define the e-mail account settings onthe device.

• Define the text message settings onthe device.

• Define the multimedia messagesettings on the device.

The device may recognise the SIM cardprovider and automatically configuresome of the message settings. If not, youmay need to define the settings manually;or contact your service provider toconfigure the settings.

The appearance of a picture message mayvary depending on the receiving device.

Only devices that have compatiblefeatures can receive and displaymultimedia messages. The appearance ofa message may vary depending on thereceiving device.

Write and send messagesSelect > Messaging.

Important: Exercise caution whenopening messages. Messages may containmalicious software or otherwise beharmful to your device or PC.

Before you can create a multimediamessage or write an e-mail, you musthave the correct connection settings inplace.

The wireless network may limit the size ofMMS messages. If the inserted pictureexceeds this limit, the device may make itsmaller so that it can be sent by MMS.

Check the size limit of e-mail messageswith your service provider. If you attemptto send an e-mail message that exceedsthe size limit of the e-mail server, themessage is left in the Outbox folder, andthe device attempts to resend itperiodically. Sending an e-mail requires adata connection, and continuousattempts to resend the e-mail mayincrease your data transfer costs. In theOutbox folder, you can delete such amessage, or move it to the Drafts folder.

1 Select New message > Message tosend a text or multimedia message(MMS), Audio message to send amultimedia message that includesone sound clip, or E-mail to send ane-mail message.

2 In the To field, press the scroll key toselect recipients or groups from the

contacts list, or enter the recipient’sphone number or e-mail address. Toadd a semicolon (;) that separates therecipients, press *. You can also copyand paste the number or address fromthe clipboard.

3 In the subject field, enter the subjectof the e-mail. To change the fields thatare visible, select Options > Messageheader fields.

4 In the message field, write themessage. To insert a template or note,select Options > Insert content >Insert text > Template or Note.

5 To add a media file to a multimediamessage, select Options > Insertcontent, the file type or source, andthe desired file. To insert a businesscard, slide, note, or some other file tothe message, select Options > Insertcontent > Insert other.

6 To capture an image or record a videoor sound clip for a multimediamessage, select Options > Insertcontent > Insert image > New,Insert video clip > New, or Insertsound clip > New.

7 To add an attachment to an e-mail,select Options and the attachmenttype. E-mail attachments areindicated by .

8 To send the message, selectOptions > Send, or press the call key.

Note: The message sent icon or text onyour device screen does not indicate thatthe message is received at the intendeddestination.

Your device supports text messagesbeyond the limit for a single message.Longer messages are sent as two or moremessages. Your service provider maycharge accordingly. Characters with

accents, other marks, or some languageoptions take more space, and limit thenumber of characters that can be sent ina single message.

You may not be able to send video clipsthat are saved in the MP4 file format orthat exceed the size limit of the wirelessnetwork in a multimedia message.

E-mailSet up your e-mailWith the E-mail wizard, you can set upyour corporate e-mail account, such asMicrosoft Outlook or Mail for Exchange,and your internet e-mail account.

When setting up your corporate e-mail,you may be prompted for the name of theserver associated with your e-mailaddress. For details, contact yourcompany IT department.

2 Enter your e-mail address andpassword. If the wizard is not able toconfigure your e-mail settingsautomatically, you need to select youre-mail account type, and enter therelated account settings.

ActiveSyncUse of the Mail for Exchange is limited toover-the-air synchronisation of PIMinformation between the Nokia deviceand the authorised Microsoft Exchangeserver.

Send e-mailSelect > Messaging.

1 Select your mailbox and Options >Create email.

2 In the To field, enter the recipient's e-mail address. If the recipient's e-mailaddress can be found in Contacts, startentering the recipient's name, andselect the recipient from the proposedmatches. If you add several recipients,insert ; to separate the e-mailaddresses. Use the Cc field to send acopy to other recipients, or the Bccfield to send a blind copy to recipients.If the Bcc field is not visible, selectOptions > More > Show Bcc field.

To download the selected attachment orall the attachments from the list to yourdevice, select Options > Actions >Download or Download all. The

attachments are not saved in your device,and are deleted when you delete themessage.

To save the selected attachment or all thedownloaded attachments in your device,select Options > Actions > Save or Saveall.

To open the selected, downloadedattachment, select Options > Actions >Open.

Reply to a meeting requestSelect > Messaging and a mailbox.

With your device, you can browse both theinternet and your company's intranet, anddownload and install new applications toyour device.

Web browser With the Web browser application, youcan view hypertext markup language(HTML) web pages on the internet asoriginally designed. You can also browseweb pages that are designed specificallyfor mobile devices, and use extensiblehypertext markup language (XHTML), orthe wireless markup language (WML).

To browse the web, you need to have aninternet access point configured in yourdevice.

Browse the webSelect > Web.

Shortcut: To start the browser, press andhold 0 in the home screen.

To browse the web, in the bookmarksview, select a bookmark, or start to entera web address (the field opensautomatically), and select Go to.

Some web pages may contain material,such as graphics and sounds, that requiresa large amount of memory to view. If yourdevice runs out of memory while loadingsuch a web page, the graphics on the pageare not shown.

To browse web pages with graphicsdisabled, to save memory and increasethe page loading speed, select Options >

Settings > Page > Load content > Textonly.

To enter a web address, select Options >Go to > New web page.

To refresh the content of the web page,select Options > Web page options >Reload.

To save the current web page as abookmark, select Options > Web pageoptions > Save as bookmark.

To view snapshots of the web pages youhave visited during the current browsingsession, select Back (available if Historylist is activated in the browser settingsand the current web page is not the firstweb page you visit).

To prevent or allow the automaticopening of multiple windows, selectOptions > Web page options > Blockpop-ups or Allow pop-ups.

To view the shortcut key map, selectOptions > Keypad shortcuts. To edit theshortcut keys, select Edit.

Tip: To minimise the browser withoutexiting the application or connection,press the end key once.

Web feeds and blogsSelect > Web.

Web feeds are XML files on web pages thatare used to share, for example, the latestnews headlines or blogs. It is common tofind web feeds on web, blog, and wikipages.

The browser application automaticallydetects if a web page contains web feeds.

If web feeds are available, to subscribe toa web feed, select Options > Subscribeto web feeds.

To update a web feed, in the Web feedsview, select a feed and Options > Webfeed options > Refresh.

To define whether the web feeds areupdated automatically, in the Web feedsview, select Options > Edit > Edit. Thisoption is not available if one or more feedsare marked.

Empty the cacheThe information or services you haveaccessed are stored in the cache memoryof the device.

A cache is a memory location that is usedto store data temporarily. If you have triedto access or have accessed confidentialinformation requiring passwords, emptythe cache after each use.

To empty the cache, select Options >Clear privacy data > Cache.

End the connection

To end the connection and close thebrowser, select Options > Exit.

To delete the information the networkserver collects about your visits to variousweb pages, select Options > Clearprivacy data > Cookies.

Connection securityIf the security indicator ( ) is displayedduring a connection, the datatransmission between the device and theinternet gateway or server is encrypted.

The security icon does not indicate thatthe data transmission between thegateway and the content server (wherethe data is stored) is secure. The serviceprovider secures the data transmissionbetween the gateway and the contentserver.

Security certificates may be required forsome services, such as banking services.You are notified if the identity of theserver is not authentic or if you do nothave the correct security certificate inyour device. For more information,contact your service provider.

Important: Even if the use of certificatesmakes the risks involved in remoteconnections and software installationconsiderably smaller, they must be usedcorrectly in order to benefit fromincreased security. The existence of acertificate does not offer any protectionby itself; the certificate manager mustcontain correct, authentic, or trustedcertificates for increased security to beavailable. Certificates have a restrictedlifetime. If "Expired certificate" or"Certificate not valid yet" is shown, even ifthe certificate should be valid, check thatthe current date and time in your deviceare correct.

Before changing any certificate settings,you must make sure that you really trustthe owner of the certificate and that thecertificate really belongs to the listedowner.

Share onlineAbout Share onlineSelect > Share > Share online.

With Share online, you can post images,video clips, and sound clips from yourdevice to compatible online sharingservices, such as albums and blogs. Youcan also view and send comments to theposts in these services, and downloadcontent to your compatible Nokia device.

The supported content types and theavailability of the Share online servicemay vary.

Subscribe to servicesSelect > Share > Share online.

To subscribe to an online sharing service,go to the service provider's website, andcheck that your Nokia device is compatiblewith the service. Create an account asinstructed on the website. You receive auser name and password needed to set upyour device with the account.

1 To activate a service, open the Shareonline application in your device,select a service and Options >Activate.

2 Allow the device to create a networkconnection. If you are prompted foran internet access point, select onefrom the list.

3 Sign in to your account as instructedon the service provider’s website.

Nokia's services in the online sharingservice are free of charge. Any datatransferred over the network may incurcharges from your service provider. Forthe availability and cost of the third partyservices and data transfer costs, contact

your service provider or the relevant thirdparty.

Create a postSelect > Share > Share online.

To post multimedia files to a service,select a service and Options > Newpost. If the online sharing serviceprovides channels for posting files, selectthe desired channel.

To add an image, video clip, or sound clipto the post, select Options > Insert.

To add a title or description to the post,enter text directly to the fields, ifavailable.

To add tags to the post, select Tags:.

To select whether to enable the posting oflocation information contained in the file,select Location:.

To set the level of privacy for a file, selectPrivacy:. To allow everyone to view yourfile, select Public. To restrict others fromseeing your files, select Private. You candefine the Default setting on the serviceprovider's website.

To send the post to the service, selectOptions > Upload.

Nokia Video CentreWith Nokia Video Centre (networkservice), you can download and streamvideo clips over the air from compatibleinternet video services using a packet dataconnection. You can transfer video clipsfrom a compatible PC to your device andview them in Video centre.

Using packet data access points todownload videos may involve thetransmission of large amounts of datathrough your service provider's network.Contact your service provider forinformation about data transmissioncharges.

Your device may have predefined services.

Service providers may provide freecontent or charge a fee. Check the pricingin the service or from the service provider.

services, select Add new services andthe desired video service from theservice catalogue.

View a video clip

To browse the content of installed videoservices, select Video feeds.

The content of some video services isdivided into categories. To browse videoclips, select a category.

To search for a video clip in the service,select Video search. Search may not beavailable in all services.

Some video clips can be streamed over theair, but others must be first downloadedto your device. To download a video clip,select Options > Download. Downloadscontinue in the background if you exit theapplication. The downloaded video clipsare saved in My videos.

To stream a video clip or view adownloaded one, select Options > Play.When the video clip is playing, use theselection keys and the scroll key to controlthe player.


Select Options and from the following:Resume download — Resume a pausedor failed download.Cancel download — Cancel a download.Preview — Preview a video clip. Thisoption is available if supported by theservice.Feed details — View information abouta video clip.Refresh list — Refresh the list of videoclips.Open link in browser — Open a link inthe web browser.

Schedule downloads

To schedule an automatic download forvideo clips in a service, select Options >Schedule downloads.Video centre automatically downloadsnew video clips daily at the time youdefine.

To cancel scheduled downloads, selectManual download as the downloadmethod.

SearchSelect > Applications > Search.

Search enables you to use variousinternet-based search services to find andconnect to, for example, local services,websites, and images. The content andavailability of the services may vary.

Time management

CalendarAbout CalendarSelect > Calendar.

With calendar, you can create and viewscheduled events and appointments, andswitch between different calendar views.

In the month view, calendar entries aremarked with a triangle. Anniversaryentries are also marked with anexclamation mark. The entries of theselected day are displayed as a list.

To open calendar entries, select a calendarview and an entry.

Whenever you see the icon, scroll rightto access a list of available actions. Toclose the list, scroll left.

Create calendar entriesSelect > Calendar.

You can create the following types ofcalendar entries:

• Meeting entries remind you of eventsthat have a specific date and time.

• Meeting requests are invitations thatyou can send to the participants.Before you can create meetingrequests you must have a compatiblemailbox configured to your device.

• Memo entries are related to the wholeday but not to a specific time of theday.

• Anniversary entries remind you ofbirthdays and special dates. Theyrefer to a certain day but not a specific

time of the day. Anniversary entriesare repeated every year.

• To-do entries remind you of a taskthat has a due date but not a specifictime of the day.

To create a calendar entry, select a date,Options > New entry, and the entry type.

To set the priority for meeting entries,select Options > Priority.

To define how the entry is handled duringsynchronisation, select Private to hidethe entry from viewers if the calendar isavailable online, Public to make the entryvisible to viewers, or None to not copy theentry to your computer.

To send the entry to a compatible device,select Options > Send.

To make a meeting request of a meetingentry, select Options > Addparticipants.

Alarm clockSelect > Applications > Clock.

To view your active and inactive alarms,open the alarms tab. To set a new alarm,select Options > New alarm. Define therepetition, if needed. When an alarm isactive, is displayed.

To turn off the sounding alarm, selectStop. To stop the alarm for a certain timeperiod, select Snooze.If your device is switched off when analarm is due, your device switches itself onand starts sounding the alarm tone.

Tip: To define the time period after whichthe alarm sounds again when you set it tosnooze, select Options > Settings >Alarm snooze time.

To cancel an alarm, select Options >Remove alarm.

To change the time, date, and clock typesettings, select Options > Settings.

Clock settingsSelect Options > Settings.

To change the time or date, select Time orDate.

To change the clock shown on the homescreen, select Clock type > Analogue orDigital.

To allow the mobile phone network toupdate the time, date, and time zoneinformation to your device (networkservice), select Automatic timeupdate > On.

You can listen to music also when theoffline profile is activated. See "Offlineprofile", p. 12.

To add all available songs to the musiclibrary, select Options > Refreshlibrary.

To play a song, select the desired category,and the song.

To pause playback, press the scroll key; toresume, press the scroll key again.

To fast-forward or rewind, press and holdthe scroll key to the right or left.

To skip to the next item, scroll right. Toreturn to the beginning of the item, scrollleft. To skip to the previous item, scroll leftagain within 2 seconds after a song orpodcast has started.

To modify the tone of the music playback,select Options > Equaliser.

To modify the balance and stereo image,or to enhance the bass, select Options >Settings.

To return to the home screen and leavethe player playing in the background,press the end key briefly.


FM Radio

Listen to the radioSelect > Applications > Radio.

The quality of the radio broadcastdepends on the coverage of the radiostation in that particular area.

You can make a call or answer an incomingcall while listening to the radio. The radiois muted when there is an active call.

To start a station search, press and holdthe scroll key to the left or right.

If you have saved radio stations in yourdevice, to go to the next or previous savedstation, briefly press the scroll key to theleft or right.

To adjust the volume, scroll up or down.

Select Options and from the following:Save station — Save the station to whichyou are currently tuned to your stationlist.Stations — Open the list of your savedstations.Station directory — View availablestations based on location (networkservice).Manual tuning — Change the frequencymanually.

Select an application from the list toadjust its settings.

Device and SIM card securitySelect > Settings > Settings >General > Security.

To change the PIN code, select Phone andSIM card > PIN code. The new code mustbe 4 to 8 digits long. The PIN code protectsyour SIM card against unauthorised useand is provided with the SIM card. Afterthree consecutive incorrect PIN codeentries, the code is blocked, and you needto use the PUK code to unblock it beforeyou can use the SIM card again.

To set the keypad to lock automaticallyafter a defined period, select Phone andSIM card > Keypad autolock period.

To set a time-out period after which thedevice is automatically locked and can beused only if the correct lock code isentered, select Phone and SIM card >Phone autolock period. Enter the lengthof the time-out period in minutes, orselect None to deactiveate the autolockfeature. When the device is locked, youcan still answer incoming calls, and callsmay still be possible to the officialemergency number programmed intoyour device.

To change the lock code, select Phoneand SIM card > Lock code. The defaultlock code is 12345. Enter the current codeand then the new code twice. The newcode must be 4-255 characters long.

Alphanumeric (uppercase and lowercase)characters can be used. The device notifiesyou if the lock code is not properlyformatted.

Common accessory settingsSelect > Settings > Settings andGeneral > Enhancement.

With most accessories, you can do thefollowing:

To define which profile is activated whenyou attach an accessory to your device,select the accessory and Default profile.

To set the device to answer phone callsautomatically after 5 seconds when anaccessory is attached, select Automaticanswer > On. If the ringing type is set toBeep once or Silent in the selectedprofile, automatic answering is disabled.

To illuminate the device while it isattached to an accessory, select Lights >On.

Restore original settings

To restore the original device settings,select > Settings > Settings andGeneral > Factory settings. To do this,you need your device lock code. Afterresetting, the device may take a longertime to switch on. Documents, contactinformation, calendar entries, and filesare unaffected.

Data management

Install or remove applicationsInstall applicationsSelect > Settings > Data mgr. >App. mgr..

You can transfer installation files to yourdevice from a compatible computer,download them during browsing, orreceive them in a multimedia message, asan e-mail attachment, or using otherconnectivity methods, such as Bluetoothconnectivity. You can use NokiaApplication Installer in Nokia Ovi Suite toinstall an application to your device.

Icons in Application manager indicate thefollowing:

Important: Only install and useapplications and other software fromtrusted sources, such as applications thatare Symbian Signed or have passed theJava Verified testing.

Before installation, note the following:

• To view the application type, versionnumber, and the supplier ormanufacturer of the application,select Options > View details.

To display the security certificatedetails of the application, selectDetails: > Certificates: > Viewdetails.

• If you install a file that contains anupdate or repair to an existingapplication, you can only restore theoriginal application if you have theoriginal installation file or a full

backup copy of the removed softwarepackage. To restore the originalapplication, remove the application,and install the application again fromthe original installation file or thebackup copy.

The JAR file is required for installingJava applications. If it is missing, thedevice may ask you to download it. Ifthere is no access point defined forthe application, you are asked toselect one. When you aredownloading the JAR file, you mayneed to enter a user name andpassword to access the server. Youobtain these from the supplier ormanufacturer of the application.

To install software or an application, dothe following:

1 To locate an installation file, select > Settings > Data mgr. > App.

mgr.. Alternatively, search forinstallation files using File manager,or select Messaging > Inbox, andopen a message that contains aninstallation file.

2 In Application manager, selectOptions > Install. In otherapplications, select the installationfile to start the installation.During installation, the devicedisplays information about theprogress of the installation. If youinstall an application without a digitalsignature or certification, the devicedisplays a warning. Continueinstallation only if you are sure of theorigin and contents of the application.

To start an installed application, locatethe application in the menu, and select theapplication.

To see which software packages areinstalled or removed and when, selectOptions > View log.

Important: Your device can only supportone antivirus application. Having morethan one application with antivirusfunctionality could affect performanceand operation or cause the device to stopfunctioning.

After you install applications to acompatible memory card, installation files(.sis, .sisx) remain in the device memory.The files may use large amounts ofmemory and prevent you from storingother files. To maintain sufficientmemory, use Nokia Ovi Suite to back upinstallation files to a compatible PC, thenuse the file manager to remove theinstallation files from the device memory.If the .sis file is a message attachment,delete the message from the Messaginginbox.

Remove applications and softwareSelect > Settings > Data mgr. >App. mgr..

Scroll to a software package, and selectOptions > Remove. Select Yes toconfirm.

If you remove software, you can onlyreinstall it if you have the originalsoftware package or a full backup of theremoved software package. If you removea software package, you may no longer beable to open documents created with thatsoftware.

If another software package depends onthe software package that you removed,the other software package may stopworking. For more information, see thedocumentation of the installed softwarepackage.

To back up files to a memory card, selectthe file types you want to back up, andOptions > Back up phone memory.Ensure that your memory card has enough

free memory for the files that you havechosen to back up.

Rename or format a memory cardSelect Options > Memory card optionsand the desired option.

Password protect a memory cardSelect Options > Memory cardpassword.

These options are available only if acompatible memory card is inserted in thedevice.

Device managerRemote configurationSelect > Settings > Data mgr. >Device manager.

With Device manager, you can managesettings, data, and software on yourdevice remotely.

You can connect to a server, and receiveconfiguration settings for your device. Youmay receive server profiles and differentconfiguration settings from your serviceproviders or company informationmanagement department. Configurationsettings may include connection andother settings used by differentapplications in your device. The availableoptions may vary.

The remote configuration connection isusually started by the server when thedevice settings need to be updated.

To create a new server profile, selectOptions > Server profiles > Options >New server profile.

You may receive these settings from yourservice provider in a configurationmessage. If not, define the following:Server name — Enter a name for theconfiguration server.Server ID — Enter the unique ID toidentify the configuration server.Server password — Enter a password toidentify your device to the server.Access point — Select the access point touse for the connection, or create a newaccess point. You can also choose to beasked for the access point every time youstart a connection. This setting is availableonly if you have selected Internet as thebearer type.Host address — Enter the web addressof the configuration server.Port — Enter the port number of theserver.User name and Password — Enter youruser ID and password for theconfiguration server.Allow configuration — Select Yes toallow the server to initiate a configurationsession.Auto-accept all requests — Select Yes ifyou do not want the server to ask for yourconfirmation when it initiates aconfiguration session.Network authentication — Selectwhether to use http authentication.Network user name and Networkpassword — Enter your user ID andpassword for the http authentication. Thissetting is available only if you have

selected Network authentication to beused.

To connect to the server and receiveconfiguration settings for your device,select Options > Start configuration.

To view the configuration log of theselected profile, select Options > Viewlog.

To update the device software over theair, select Options > Check for updates.The update does not erase your settings.When you receive the update package onyour device, follow the instructions on thedisplay. Your device is restarted once theinstallation is complete.

Downloading software updates mayinvolve the transmission of large amountsof data (network service).

Make sure that the device battery hasenough power, or connect the chargerbefore starting the update.

Warning:If you install a software update, youcannot use the device, even to makeemergency calls, until the installation iscompleted and the device is restarted. Besure to back up data before acceptinginstallation of an update.

Connectivity

Transfer content from another deviceSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Switch.

With the Switch application, you cantransfer content, such as contacts,between two compatible Nokia devices.

The type of content that can betransferred depends on the model of thedevice from which you want to transfercontent. If the other device supportssynchronisation, you can also synchronisedata between the other device and yourdevice. Your device notifies you if theother device is not compatible.

If the other device cannot be switched onwithout a SIM card, you can insert your SIMcard in it. When your device is switched onwithout a SIM card, the offline profile isautomatically activated.

Transfer contentTo retrieve data from your other device forthe first time:

1 Select the connection type you wantto use to transfer the data. Bothdevices must support the selectedconnection type.

2 Select the device from which you wantto transfer content. You are asked toenter a code on your device. Enter acode (1-16 digits), and select OK. Enterthe same code on the other device,and select OK. The devices are nowpaired.For some device models, the Switchapplication is sent to the other deviceas a message. To install the Switchapplication on the other device, open

the message, and follow theinstructions.

3 From your device, select the contentyou want to transfer from the otherdevice.

Content is transferred from the memory ofthe other device to the correspondinglocation in your device.

Transfer time depends on the amount ofdata to be transferred. You can cancel thetransfer and continue later.

The synchronisation is two-way, and thedata in both devices is the same. If an itemis deleted from either device, it is deletedfrom the other device whensynchronising; you cannot restore deleteditems by synchronising.

To view the log of the last transfer, selecta shortcut in the main view andOptions > View log.

PC connectionsYou can use your mobile device with avariety of compatible PC connectivity anddata communications applications. WithNokia Ovi Suite, you can, for example,transfer files and images between yourdevice and a compatible computer.

BluetoothAbout BluetoothBluetooth technology enables wirelessconnections between electronic deviceswithin a range of 10 metres (33 feet). ABluetooth connection can be used to sendimages, videos, text, business cards,

calendar notes, or to connect wirelessly todevices that use Bluetooth technology.

Since devices using Bluetooth technologycommunicate using radio waves, yourdevice and the other devices do not needto be in direct line-of-sight. The twodevices only need to be within amaximum of 10 metres of each other,although the connection can be subject tointerference from obstructions such aswalls or other electronic devices.

Several Bluetooth connections can beactive at a time. For example, if yourdevice is connected to a headset, you canalso transfer files to another compatibledevice at the same time.

This device is compliant with BluetoothSpecification 2.0 + EDR supporting thefollowing profiles: Advanced AudioDistribution, Audio/Video Remote Control,Basic Imaging, Basic Printing, Device ID,Dial-up Networking, File Transfer, GenericAudio/Video Distribution, Generic Access,Generic Object Exchange, Handsfree,Human Interface Device, Headset, ObjectPush, Phone Book Access, Serial Port, andSIM Access. To ensure interoperabilitybetween other devices supportingBluetooth technology, use Nokiaapproved accessories for this model.Check with the manufacturers of otherdevices to determine their compatibilitywith this device.

Features using Bluetooth technologyincrease the demand on battery powerand reduce the battery life.

Security tipsWhen you are not using Bluetoothconnectivity, select Bluetooth > Off orMy phone's visibility > Hidden.

Do not pair with an unknown device.

Send and receive data with BluetoothSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

1 When you activate Bluetoothconnectivity for the first time, you areasked to name your device. Give yourdevice a unique name to make it easyto recognise if there are severalBluetooth devices nearby.

2 Select Bluetooth > On.3 Select My phone's visibility >

Shown to all or Define period. If youselect Define period, you need todefine the time during which yourdevice is visible to others. Your deviceand the name you entered can now beseen by other users with devices usingBluetooth technology.

4 Open the application where the itemyou want to send is stored.

5 Select the item and Options >Send > Via Bluetooth. The devicesearches for other devices usingBluetooth technology within rangeand lists them.

Tip: If you have sent data usingBluetooth connectivity before, a list ofthe previous search results isdisplayed. To search for moreBluetooth devices, select Moredevices.

6 Select the device with which you wantto connect. If the other devicerequires pairing before data can betransmitted, you are asked to enter apasscode.

When the connection has beenestablished, Sending data is displayed.

The Sent folder in the Messagingapplication does not store messages sentusing Bluetooth connectivity.

To receive data using Bluetoothconnectivity, select Bluetooth > On andMy phone's visibility > Shown to all toreceive data from a non-paired device orHidden to receive data from a paireddevice only. When you receive datathrough Bluetooth connectivity,depending on the settings of an activeprofile, a tone sounds, and you are askedif you want to accept the message inwhich the data is included. If you accept,the message is placed in the Inbox folderin the Messaging application.

Tip: You can access the files in the deviceor on the memory card using a compatibleaccessory that supports the File TransferProfile Client service (for example, alaptop computer).

A Bluetooth connection is disconnectedautomatically after sending or receivingdata. Only Nokia Ovi Suite and someaccessories such as headsets maymaintain a connection even if not activelyused.

Pair devicesSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

Open the paired devices tab.

Before pairing, decide on your ownpasscode (1-16 digits), and agree with theuser of the other device to use the samecode. Devices that do not have a userinterface have a fixed passcode. You needthe passcode only when you connect thedevices for the first time. After pairing, itis possible to authorise the connection.

Pairing and authorising the connectionmakes connecting quicker and easier, asyou do not have to accept the connectionbetween paired devices every time youestablish a connection.

The passcode for remote SIM access musthave 16 digits.

1 Select Options > New paireddevice. The device starts to search forBluetooth devices within range. If youhave sent data using Bluetoothconnectivity before, a list of theprevious search results is displayed.To search for more Bluetooth devices,select More devices.

2 Select the device with which you wantto pair, and enter the passcode. Thesame passcode must be entered tothe other device as well.

3 Select Yes to make the connectionbetween your device and the otherdevice automatic, or No to confirmthe connection manually every time aconnection attempt is made. Afterpairing, the device is saved to thepaired devices page.

To give a nickname to the paired device,select Options > Assign short name. Thenickname is only displayed in your device.

To delete a pairing, select the devicewhose pairing you want to delete andOptions > Delete. To delete all pairings,select Options > Delete all. If you arecurrently connected to a device and cancelthe pairing with that device, pairing isremoved immediately, and theconnection is ended.

To allow a paired device to connectautomatically to your device, select Set asauthorised. Connections between your

device and the other device can be madewithout your knowledge. No separateacceptance or authorisation is needed.Use this status for your own devices, suchas your compatible headset or computer,or devices that belong to someone youtrust. If you want to accept connectionrequests from the other device separatelyevery time, select Set as unauthorised.

To use a Bluetooth audio accessory suchas a Bluetooth handsfree or headset, youneed to pair your device with theaccessory. For the passcode and furtherinstructions, see the accessory user guide.To connect to the audio accessory, switchon the accessory. Some audio accessoriesconnect automatically to your device.Otherwise, open the paired devices tab,select the accessory and Options >Connect to audio device.

Block devicesSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Bluetooth.

To block a device from establishing aBluetooth connection to your device, openthe paired devices tab.

Select a device you want to block andOptions > Block.

To unblock a device, open the blockeddevices tab, and select Options >Delete.

To unblock all blocked devices, selectOptions > Delete all.

If you reject a pairing request fromanother device, you are asked if you wantto block all future connection requests

from this device. If you accept the query,the remote device is added to the list ofblocked devices.

Data cableTo avoid damaging the memory card orcorrupting data, do not disconnect theUSB data cable during a data transfer.

Transfer data between your device anda PC1 Insert a memory card in your device,

and connect the device to acompatible PC with the USB datacable. Always connect the data cablefirst to your device, and then to theother device or computer.

2 When the device asks which mode touse, select Mass storage. In thismode, you can see your device as aremovable hard drive in yourcomputer.

3 Transfer data between the computerand your device.

4 End the connection from thecomputer (for example, from anUnplug or Eject Hardware wizard inWindows) to avoid damaging thememory card.

To transfer images from the device to acompatible PC, or to print the imagesstored in the device on a compatibleprinter, connect the USB data cable to thePC or printer, and select Image transfer.

To modify the USB mode settings, select > Settings > Connectivity > USB.

To change the USB mode you normally usewith the USB data cable, select USBconnection mode.

To set the device to ask which mode to useeach time you connect the USB data cableto the device, select Ask onconnection > Yes.

To use Nokia Ovi Suite with your device,install Nokia Ovi Suite on your PC, connectthe USB data cable, and select PC Suite.

SyncSelect > Settings > Connectivity >Sync.

Sync enables you to synchronise yournotes, calendar entries, text andmultimedia messages, browserbookmarks, or contacts with variouscompatible applications on a compatiblecomputer or on the internet.

You may receive synchronisation settingsin a special message from your serviceprovider.

A synchronisation profile contains thenecessary settings for synchronisation.

When you open the Sync application, thedefault or previously used sync profile isdisplayed. To modify the profile, scroll toa sync item, and select Mark to include itin the profile or Unmark to leave it out.

To manage sync profiles, select Optionsand the desired option.

To synchronise data, select Options >Synchronise.

To cancel synchronisation before itfinishes, select Cancel.

Green tips

Here are tips on how you can contributeto protecting the environment.

Save energyWhen you have fully charged the batteryand disconnected the charger from thedevice, remember to also unplug thecharger from the wall outlet.

You do not need to charge your battery sooften if you do the following:

• Close and disable applications,services, and connections when youare not using them.

• Decrease the brightness of the screen.• Set the device to enter the power

saver mode after the minimum periodof inactivity, if available in yourdevice.

• Disable unnecessary sounds, such askeypad tones. Set the volume of yourdevice to an average level.

RecycleDid you remember to recycle your olddevice? 65-80% of the materials in a Nokiamobile phone can be recycled. Alwaysreturn your used electronic products,batteries, and packaging materials to adedicated collection point. AccessoriesFor availability of approved accessories, please check withyour dealer. When you disconnect the power cord of anyaccessory, grasp and pull the plug, not the cord.

BatteryBattery and charger informationYour device is powered by a rechargeable battery. The batteryintended for use with this device is BL-4CT. Nokia may makeadditional battery models available for this device. Thisdevice is intended for use when supplied with power fromthe following chargers: AC-8. The exact charger modelnumber may vary depending on the type of plug. The plugvariant is identified by one of the following: E, EB, X, AR, U, A,C, K, or UB.

The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds oftimes, but it will eventually wear out. When the talk andstandby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace thebattery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and rechargeyour battery only with Nokia approved chargers designatedfor this device.

If a battery is being used for the first time or if the battery hasnot been used for a prolonged period, it may be necessary toconnect the charger, then disconnect and reconnect it tobegin charging the battery. If the battery is completelydischarged, it may take several minutes before the chargingindicator appears on the display or before any calls can bemade.

Safe removal. Always switch the device off and disconnect thecharger before removing the battery.

Proper charging. Unplug the charger from the electrical plugand the device when not in use. Do not leave a fully chargedbattery connected to a charger, since overcharging mayshorten its lifetime. If left unused, a fully charged battery willlose its charge over time.

Avoid extreme temperatures. Always try to keep the batterybetween 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extremetemperatures reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery.A device with a hot or cold battery may not work temporarily.Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatureswell below freezing.

Do not short-circuit. Accidental short-circuiting can occurwhen a metallic object such as a coin, clip, or pen causes directconnection of the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals ofthe battery. (These look like metal strips on the battery.) Thismight happen, for example, when you carry a spare batteryin your pocket or purse. Short-circuiting the terminals maydamage the battery or the connecting object.

Disposal. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they mayexplode. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations.Please recycle when possible. Do not dispose as householdwaste.

Leak. Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend, puncture, orshred cells or batteries. In the event of a battery leak, preventbattery liquid contact with skin or eyes. If this happens, flushthe affected areas immediately with water, or seek medicalhelp.

Damage. Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt to insertforeign objects into the battery, or immerse or expose it towater or other liquids. Batteries may explode if damaged.

Correct use. Use the battery only for its intended purpose.Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion, or otherhazard. If the device or battery is dropped, especially on ahard surface, and you believe the battery has been damaged,take it to a service centre for inspection before continuing touse it. Never use any charger or battery that is damaged. Keepyour battery out of the reach of small children.

• Use chargers indoors.• Backup all data you want to keep, such as contacts and

calendar notes.• To reset the device from time to time for optimum

performance, power off the device and remove thebattery.

To make an emergency call:

1 If the device is not on, switch it on. Check for adequatesignal strength. Depending on your device, you mayalso need to complete the following:

• Insert a SIM card if your device uses one.• Remove certain call restrictions you have

activated in your device.• Change your profile from Offline or Flight profile

to an active profile.2 Press the end key as many times as needed to clear the

display and ready the device for calls.3 Enter the official emergency number for your present

location. Emergency numbers vary by location.4 Press the call key.

When making an emergency call, give all the necessaryinformation as accurately as possible. Your wireless devicemay be the only means of communication at the scene of anaccident. Do not end the call until given permission to do so.

Certification information (SAR)This mobile device meets guidelines for exposure toradio waves.

Your mobile device is a radio transmitter and receiver. It isdesigned not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio wavesrecommended by international guidelines.
