  • Galloway Acoustics standard rectangular silencers are generally manufactured from pre-galvanised steel sheets and constructed in accordance with DW144 and as per the construction specification shown in the table below. The longitudinal joints shall be Grooved / Pittsuburg seam filled with mastic sealant. Due to the splitter casings being riveted to the main attenuator case creating an inherently stiff component, interme-diate stiffeners are only used on attenuator lengths over 1800 mm as required. Also available with Stain-less steel and Aluminium casing.

    Rectangular Silencer Construction

Leminar Air Conditioning Industries, is the sole manufacturing licensee for Galloway Acoustics-UK product range for the geographical market covering UAE, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain.

Galloway Acoustics originally began life in 1994 as Attenumate, which was then a subsidiary of Duct-mate (Europe) Ltd, part of the Galloway Group servicing the Acoustics market for both noise control products and acoustic consultancy.

The agreement between Galloway Acoustics (UK) and Leminar Air Conditioning Industries, has been in place since 2003 and Leminar has successfully deliv-ered sound attenuators to all major projects through-out the region.

Leminar has signed an agency agreement with M/s. Multitech LLC (A Bahwan Group of Company) Oman, for distribution of Galloway Acoustics product range all over The Sultanate of Oman.

Until the year 2001, Galloway Acoustics– UK was the only UK company who have tested their silencers to BS 4718 and ISO 7235 on a UKAS accredited rig at Salford University (England , UK) ,the first of its kind.

With regard to the results obtained the items that were measured to both standards were: -

Static Insertion Loss (dB) Inlet and outlet flow generated noise (dB)Silencer pressure loss due to airflow (Pa.)

UKAS Accredited test rig to BS 4718 & ISO 7235 at Salford University used for the testing of Galloway Acoustics silencers. This test rig was designed, manufactured and installed by Galloway Acoustics

  • Available Models:-

Galloway Acoustics currently has 55 different silencer configurations, A1 to A55, in its range, with a melinex equivalent, A1M TO A55M for each type. The silencers are available in a standard length of 600, 900, 1200, 1500, 1800, 2100 & 2400 mm.

CA/CPA – SPG The addition of SPG on the code denotes the use of spigot connections in preference to the internal flanges or nut insert type.

CAXT 1 & 2 SILENCERS – The units are manufactured as above with spigot connections each end to fit into most standard ISO duct systems. Their main purpose is to provide high levels of cross talk privacy between adjacent rooms served by a common ductwork system, whilst producing a negligible additional pressure loss on that system.

Circular silencers of Galvanised, Stainless Steel, Aluminium construction.

Fire rated construction meeting requirements of BS 476 part4 (Fire) and BS 5588 Part A (Smoke).

Silencers with Melinex lining over the infill material which are suitable for Kitchen ducts, clean room applications and where hygiene is of utmost importance.

High temperature casing silencers suitable for smoke extract ductwork systems, tested to BS 476 part 24 :1987 for 2 hrs fire rating for temperatures upto 300 degree celcius by Warringtonfire Exova- UK and do not require any additional fire coating.

Different people may well have varying degrees of tolerance from one type of noise to another. The starting point has always got to be ‘what are the design requirements’. For instance what is the appli-cation and what are the acceptable noise levels for such an environment. NR (Noise Rating) and NC (Noise Criteria) levels are sound curves that can be used, as a guide to estimate how ‘loud’ a certain noise will appear to the human ear. Refer Fig-2.

The Sound Power level of the equipment is the start-ing point of any acoustic calculation, while the speci-fied noise is the end meeting the required attenua-tion by selecting a suitable attenuator, refer Fig-3.

    Applications

Galloway Acoustics Cylindrical Silencer Constructional Specification

    Silencer Selection:-

All GALLOWAY attenuators have aerodynamically shaped bullnose fairings to the front and back of the splitters to have a reduced pressure drop. The baffles shall have rockwool infill material of 45 Kg/ m density and minimum installed compression rating of 5% and retained behind 22G thick expanded metal / perfo-rated sheet facing to avoid erosion of fibres at higher velocity. The infill material with a black glass tissue facing shall be inert, non combustible, non hygro-scopic, vermin proof, rot proof and will not support bacterial growth.

Fire Rated Sound Attenuator Sound Attenuator for Smoke Extract

    04

The above attenuators with FFC 250 fire coating are tested to BS 476 part 24 for 2 hours fire rating for stability and integrity which will be suitable for fire temperatures as per the Cellulosic curve.

The above attenuators are assessed by Warrington Fire Exova (UK) to BS 476 part 24 as suitable to be used for carrying smoke and hot gases upto 300 degrees celcius for a period of 120 minutes. These ducts do not require any additional fire coating.

  • ACOUSTIC & NON-ACOUSTIC LOUVRES

Galloway Acoustics have designed their range of acoustic and non-acoustic louvers and can accommo-date all potential applications that may require the use of louvers. All potential applications that may require the use of louvers. All the acoustic options have been tested at Aalford University to UKAS accredited standard.

Acoustic single leaf or double leaf louvred doors can be manufactured from either the 150mm or 300mm deep design but in both cases due to practical space and weight restrictions are only offered as a single bank option. Alternatively a nonacoustic louvred door can be offered with a back blanking plate to match areas of louvre banks that require the acoustic perfor-mance of a double bank design.

    Standard Construction Specifications & Models

    Introduction

The acoustic performance figures for our standard range of acoustic louvres are shown opposite. These are based upon sound insulation (Sound Reduction Index) tests carried out by Salford University in a UKAS accredited test facility and procedure in accordance with BS EN ISO 140-3 1995.

Sound Reduction Index - Defined as ‘A set of values measured by a specific test method to establish the actual amount of sound that will be stopped by the material, partition or panel when located between two rooms.’

Noise Reduction - defined as 'used to define the performance of a noise barrier. Established by measuring the difference in sound pressure levels adjacent to each surface.'

  • Galloway Acoustics enclosure/screen systems are based upon five standard panel designs coded 1 to 5, type 1 being of the lowest acoustic performance and type 5 the highest. The differences between panels 1 and 5 are created by the application of varying infill components into the standard panel thicknesses.

The panel types 1 to 5 can be incorporated into three construction systems primarily aimed at different applications.

H-Frame– A cost effective industrial enclosure/screen system with a versatile number of panel connection methods.

Pentapost– High acoustic performance system with a quality aesthetic appearance. Used primarily for enclosure/screen systems that require architecturally pleasing details (fixings can be hidden) coupled with good acoustic performance.

Frameless/Site Assembly System – Primary applications for this system are internal constructions, many of which require differing aesthetic finishes applied to the internal/exposed panel face such as audiology rooms, recording studios, music practice rooms, permanent room partitions. Other applications include large industrial enclosures such as automotive spray paint booths.

General The acoustic performance of both the H-Frame and Pentapost designs have been tested using a 75mm thick panel for all five available panel types. The frameless/site assembly system was tested using a 100mm thick panel, again across all five-panel types. In our opinion and as indicated during these tests the difference in panel performances for the same panel type from 75 to 100mm is marginal and as such performance figures for 75mm panels can be used where a 50mm panel thickness is required.

The acoustic tests were carried out at Salford University to a UKAS accredited standard and in accordance with BS EN ISO 140-3 1995.
