The ship was scheduled to arrive in SYD this morning and the next cruise will be impacted. The cruise line is contact- ing affected passengers. Plans are all go for the 2015 TAANZ National Travel Industry Awards, which event organisers are confi- dent will be bigger and better next year—despite the removal of Flight Centre from the industry mix. The event’s steering group committee met last week and TAANZ boss An- drew Olsen says 100% of the organ- isation’s members and suppliers are behind the success of the NTIAs. The committee, which also includes House of Travel boss Mark O’Donnell, United Travel’s John Willson and Keith Sumner from Gilpin Travel (next year’s event organiser), has sought feedback from the trade and is mak- ing some changes in response to that feedback. While those changes have yet to be finalised, Travel Today understands self-nomination will be permitted to allow the brands, groups, indepen- dents and suppliers to put forward their best nominee. Finalists will continue to be selected by poll for the 2015 awards with agents voting for suppliers and vice versa, and Travel Today understands that the award cat- egory selection by the NTIA partners will also be modified a little with an industry ballot process to be used. “More details will be provided in the NTIA prospectus which will be issued before the end of the year,” adds Olsen. HoT’s Mark O’Donnell is upbeat about next year’s awards. “It has been great to get the support and feedback from both sides of the industry on the fu- ture of these awards,” he says. “We feel that the tweaks that are being worked through and the early commitment we have received will make the 2015 awards another successful and enjoy- able night for everyone.” This sentiment has been echoed by United Travel’s John Willson who believes next year’s awards ceremony will be even more successful than this year’s event. “We want to build on the success of this year’s event and we’ve also learned a lot and will make some pertinent changes to award categories, in response to industry feedback,” he says. “It’s a chance for the industry to really come together and celebrate success, and the 2015 event is off to a strong start, with backing from the industry,” he adds.
