No Strings Attached!

A woman I know, a mom, once told me how great she felt

after bringing her kids to the library. She said that after a

visit to the library she felt like she had done something spe-

cial for her kids for the day. This is an incredible feeling for a mom (or dad, or grand-

parent, etc.) in a world where it is so easy to feel guilty for not being perfect.

The library is an easy stop for caregivers. I suggest stopping by in between errands.

Let your kids come in and run around. If it’s nice out, play in the sandbox out front or

check out the butterfly gardens out back. Did you know you can fish in the Mill Pond

(right next to the library)? I was informed today by a little patron that you can catch

lake trout there!

Please don’t worry about the noise. The OPL is too close of quarters to try and keep

quiet all the time. Library staff take measures to ensure those who need quiet are able

to use space upstairs. And for goodness sakes, crying is okay too! Library staff is pre-

pared with dozens of toys and silly faces to help with the tears.

There aren’t many places like a Library. All we want is for you to visit, to have fun and

learn something new. No strings attached! ~ Kelly McBride

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen

Since it was first published almost fifteen years ago, David Allen’s Getting Things Done has become one of

the most influential business books of its era, and the ultimate book on personal organization. “GTD” is now

shorthand for an entire way of approaching professional and personal tasks, and has spawned an entire cul-

ture of websites, organizational tools, seminars, and offshoots. Allen has rewritten the book from start to fin-

ish, tweaking his classic text with important perspectives on the new workplace, and adding material that will

make the book fresh and relevant for years to come.

The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure by Grant Cardone

With The 10X Rule, you'll learn to establish the amount of effort needed to guarantee success and ensure

that you can continue operating at this level throughout your life. Most people desire success and have great

ideas but they come up short on the amount of action required to get their lives to the exceptional levels they

deserve. Four degrees of action exist, and in order to achieve your dreams, you must learn to operate at the

fourth degree of action: Massive Action. The 10X Rule will dissolve fear, increase your belief in yourself,

eliminate procrastination, and provide you with an overwhelming sense of purpose. The 10X Rule compels

you to separate yourself from everyone else in the market-and you do that by doing what others refuse to do.

Stop thinking in terms of basic needs, and start aiming for abundance-in all areas of your life. The 10X

Rule guides you toward the frame of mind that all successful people share. Aim ten times higher than you

are right now-and if you come up short, you'll still find yourself further along than if you had maintained your

life's current status quo.

Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us by Seth Godin Tribes will make you think (really think) about the opportunities in leading your fellow employees, customers, investors, believers, hobbyists, or readers.

Big Fun @ OPL

For those of you who don’t know, each month-on the fourth

Monday at 10:30, the Osceola Public Library hosts a Big Fun

Playdate! What is a Big Fun Playdate, you might ask? Ba-

bies, toddlers, and their older siblings are invited to play in

the library. Not just any play, but sensory play! Messy, imagi-

native, and educational activities are stationed around the

library. This kind of play stimulates children’s senses. They

aren’t just developing fine and gross motor skills, but they are

using problem solving skills for cognitive development. Even

with young children who haven’t yet learned to speak, con-

veying a message while playing using expression will help

them develop valuable language skills. Also, the open ended

and imaginative play which these activities provide, fosters

creativity, problem solving skills and will help build their self

esteem as they explore the world on their own. Additionally,

meeting and playing with other children helps them develop

social skills and gives caregivers an opportunity to meet oth-

ers in the community.
